Mik
Arhhh their for bike dude...Just get an oil catch can if you got 4 wheels.... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> They are for cars too....and if they work as they should, then they are more likened to a vacuum pump than a catch can Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/98623-crankcase-ventilation/#findComment-1796083 Share on other sites
Col-GTSX
So what happens when you get blow by.... Remember all engines have a certain amount of blow by... I can see it now... I fitted this thing and i blew my engine... It looks like a modified PCV Valve (crank case vent valve)... Me no like playing with that.... Our targa BMW had a we little crank case vent problem on the last day of the targa... The air vent on the top of the catch can blocked up not allowing breathing.... Then she went boom.... So i now always have a free flowing catch can.... Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/98623-crankcase-ventilation/#findComment-1796102 Share on other sites
discopotato03
David Vizard spoke of an evacupan system where exhaust gas velocity past a tube (anti backfire valve) facing down stream in the exhaust could vent the crank case . It was more for open pipe n/a race engines using high CR's . Cheers A . Col-GTSX
The valves will let the blow by pressure out... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> So does a catch can... With a vent.... Not being rude but whats the point of this thing.... I mean it does not do anything a catch can cant do... browny
I wondered the same thing. Their product seems to be aimed mostly at Harleys which have reliability problems with the OEM PCV system. It doesnt appear to be a substitute for a catch can at all, just an "improved" PCV valve. I mean it does not do anything a catch can cant do... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> These valves give negative pressure (vacuum) in the case. An open catch can(assuming no vacuum pump) will leave atmospheric pressure in the case. Vacuum in the sump is a good thing. It helps to keep the oil clean and the engine will make more power because the pistons do not have to displace and compress air on the way down. You could always use these valves in conjunction with a catch can. Col-GTSX
Yeah i did a bit of re-search today... I missed the point... A bike does not have room for an oil catch can... So its the next best thing..... Now i see.... But yeah it sorta answers the original question... No i would not use one on the car as its not needed yes i would use one on a bike as its the alternative to an oil catch can in limited spaces (no spaces on a bike)...
