Heya all,

I've been toying with the idea of a larger SMIC, such as an ARC or Tomei unit, as they're allegedly 30% larger than stock, but still mount up in the same spot. Would one of these be ok for around 10psi on an R32 RB20DET with catback exhaust?

The obvious way to go is the FMIC, but I want to avoid it if the general consensus it that I can.

Thanks.

the side mounts are awesome..they are rated up to 200rwkw...i had the trust and sold it ( to make a bit of cash) and then bought the ARC and have never looked back. The core is 30cm x 30cm a 11cm...so its alot bigger and heaps thicker, and yes it fits perfectly, but you cannot put back the side plastic behind the guard...but who cares...if you can get one cheap i say go for it :)

Guess its the adrian i know, Ur bro told me u got ur car, and now i find u posting LOL. Killa, come round wen u get a chance and check my new beast. As for your qu, if ur looking to just put a replacement cooler in the standard place, ARC's can be quite expensive, but well worth it....its all choice and preferance to be honest, but any cooler that u choose should well be able to handle 10psi.

Well, the only ARC SMIC's I've found so far (used) are lurking around the $400 mark, which I think is neither here nor there. Considering I can get one of those Hybrid FMIC's (new) for $500 with all piping, hoses and clamps, I don't think it's a good price.

I was thinking of offering something in the 200-250 region, including freight. In any event, definitely NOT any more than 300 all up.

Thanks for all your help, guys.

Found one on eBay, guy was asking $350 plus freight.

eBay item number is 4597524733. Didn't have any luck, and I was thinking of offering him $250 including freight. What do you guys think?

    • Thanks Duncan, that's the best info I've read. Furthermore after learning about the PCM programming side controlling the factory boost solenoid, the purpose of the solenoid is to "bleed" boost when pin 25 is earthed, thus allowing spring pressure in the wastegate actuator to overcome diaphragm boost pressure, thus closing or reducing the position of the wastegate flap creating more boost as the turbo is able to spin faster. It's pretty cool to see a designated Pill to do exactly this, would have liked to have seen it with a tiny filter over the end for those moments in vacuum.  The constant bleed pill has now been removed completely from the system and solenoid boost control has been restored once again.   Case closed 😂
    • The wideband reading is meaningless if it's not running. Why are you using shitty old sidefeeds on any engine, let alone a Neo? What manifold and fuel rail are you using to achieve that? Beyond that, can't help you with AEM stuff as I've never been their ECU/CAS combo.
    • Manual boost controllers (where a little of the boost was bled off) were quite common back in the day, because they were cheap and easy. Generally they had a manual adjustment screw rather than being fixed like yours. Down side is they always bleed boost, not just when you want them to so an electronic boost controller that uses a solenoid will have less lag.
    • Hello , im new here and i have A31 home build  RB25det neo stock eng / turbo  aem ems 2 blue connector  aem 3.5 map aem cas disk aem wideband connected to ecu  355 lph pump 550 nismo yellow injectors side feed aftermarket regulator  and won’t start with base aem tuner basic tune eventually flipped cas 180 degree so it triggers on correct stroke not in exhaust cycle  Now it won’t start Wideband reads 10 and 11 at lowest fuel setting  and will share calibrations soon for aem tuner i think something is wrong in aem tuner    please if you have any information, am very grateful
    • Legend. I ended up finding the facebook account of the owner of the first car i sent but sadly he deactivated the account. I think you’re right in saying it’s some sort of well done custom job. Really appreciate your help anyways.
