Ahh...  I guess you didnt know that kippax Caltex has the 98RON stuff for like 6 months +...

Or are you not a fan of Caltex?

As I said.... "decent fuel". On occasion, people have hinted that Shell provides Caltex with Optimax for sale as Vortex Gold. But no, I wasn't aware Kippax had Vortex Gold....

i can absolutely confirm, mj, that caltex's high octane fuels are not refined by shell. my uncle works for caltex and i've seen huuuuuughe fuel tanks with their premium juice with my own two eyes. they had a big A2 poster/flowchart up showing people how they refine their high octane brews and why they're supposedly better.

my car pings its tits off on shell's fuel - never had any problems on vortex or bp.

My car pings its ass off on anything but Ultimate and Synergy 8000... not sure why, as Vortex 98 is meant to be pretty good but my car flatly refuses and starts making the knock meter dance when I used it :)

Good thing mines been off the road for the whole no Ultimate saga... it is back at Chisholm BP though in decent quantities :D

On that note though, once all my fuel lines are replaced with the non standard rubber crap, I will be running Optimax Extreme only... have been seeing some damned good results with it.

I;ve been having great results with regular unleaded just about everywhere! my car always seems to start, although it doesn't seem to matter what i use lately the car still seems slow...hmmm wonder why that is?........

pahahahaaaaa! oh andy poor man. you need to park that behind of yours in another performance car.

and yes, i've noticed bp has ultimate back.... hoooraaa!!!

d

well i am trying to work it out buy it's 3cents more than optimax which i think may be 2cents cheaper than ultimate though...

i may be wrong but isnt optimax only 8cents more than regular

ultimate is like 11 cents... plus dont forget at least you can get a 4c discount through coles :P

What's with the rubber? I thought ethanol caused corrosion in the metal lines, not attacked the rubber? I've also had bad luck with some of the 'off the shelf' fuel hose (non-EFI, however) from Autobarn - within six months, it goes hard and gets splits in the outer layer. Had the same problem many years ago with 'super duper US quality' oil cooler hose for an auto. So - buy really decent hose!!

Have spoken to two places who have both said, if you want to run ethanol for the forseeable future, ditch the factory rubber lines.

I think the plan was to use brand new high quality EFI hose under the car, and Earls braided hose and fittings everywhere else

That is correct, Nissan have flatly said do not use ethanol in our engines.

supadan: If you have a stock ECU it should be ok, if you have an aftermarket ecu it will need a retune as the ethanol content = more oxygen = car will lean out.

    • Why are you so adamant on going M12? Why not follow Brad (GTSBoy) suggestion. You're talking moving from a 1/8" size, to a 1/2" effectively. 4 times bigger. Why skip the commonly available sizes in between? The bigger you go, the more likely you are to strip the threads out at a later date, as guaranteed, someone will put a huge spanner on the M12 and really tighten it up, and you're only in thin wall, so not a lot of threads to engage!
    • Hi. Yeah thanks. Car is already at tuners and it staying there to resolve "many" issues they do not like. So it is in a good hands. Getting a good tune on that Nistune ECU too so the car would be good. Just needs a little tune up and love.
    • Probably gonna remove manifold and turbo. I’m not sure if I can get M12 x 1.5 air tight. Could use high temp Loctite 246 or something similar, but I don’t know. Maybe it’s just best to remove everything again and weld an 1/8NPT on there instead.
