[Closed] Borg Warner Efr Series Turbos
Lithium replied to Lithium's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Lets put it his way... my car has 190,000km on the clock now (GT3076R went on at ~100,000km) - at 200,000km the car will be due for a new cambelt/waterpump etc etc for preventative maintanence. I had been planning to wait for the motor to start showing signs of getting sad before looking for the next stage of build but it seems that its not going to happen of its own accord. If the motor is still going strong at 200,000km then I've decided it deserves a reward for going so well for so long having never been opened and will probably have a bit of a holiday and rejuvination process -
You can get a GT3076R in a 1.06a/r twinscroll - that'd be insane. EFR7670 would be crushing, GT3582R power with better than GT3076R spool
-
Yeah the cases I have seen peak power is comparable, though one mate of mine gained heaps though there could be more to that.
-
Excellent spool/response is a relative to owner - define your idea of acceptable spool?
-
It has been discussed a bit on this forum to be fair, 3-400rpm better spool than the equivalent flowing single pulse setup (you need a bigger a/r twin scroll turbine housing than open housing to compare usually) and better midrange torque for the same boost level... usually. Makes it look like the displacement has been increased a bit.

Nice, I was meaning to get to this but CBF searching for the thread - was hoping it would get bumped by someone haha. I can see my car ending up with a built RB25 and a twin scroll EFR7670... -
Probably flywheel though usually it says it and you see a TCF field, but even then 920hp at the fw is taking nothing from it
-
I've encountered some results from a GTX3582R which I know the conservatives and such forth on here will potential throw toys at - don't shoot the messenger please. This is a "full retard" EVO running running 13:1 compression and race gas on around 30psi. Its stock displacement and clearly not set up for low down torque so much as going apesh1t: Apesh1t achieved, the most generous that reading could be is crank hp which is still mental for a T3 flanged turbo which spools anywhere near that quick - laggy on a 2litre but an RB30 would make it perfectly useable.
-
To do it you need a bigger compressor, I don't think there is any cheating that... so essentially you need to look at something like a GT4094R or bigger which it sounds like is pointless. However, imho you are trying to perform a pointless match, you don't NEED that wide an efficient compressor map as I doubt the EZ30 is going to use it. I reckon a GT3582R would be fine, just tune it suitably and put the least restrictive possible hotside on it. Use alcohol, and keep the mixtures fat. If it breaks, and its tuned sensibly - its because its a weak motor.
-
The logic is sound, but in my experience the lag/response of a GT3082R is so close to a GT35 that you may as well go with a GT35 and have the better match and even less MBP... just my opinion.
-
I know you didn't ask this, but IMHO you shouldn't be worrying about flowing over 50lb/min on .8bar - even on an EZ30, unless you have got pretty fancy with it. Also if you are going to be using a lowish boost level and E85, a few points of compressor efficiency aren't going to break the thing - I'd be worrying more about minimal exhaust manifold pressure. Look at the compressor map for the Borg Warner S300SX 83-75, I would be leaning towards one of those with the 1.00a/r twin scroll T4 turbine housing if I were doing what you are looking at doing. People have done cool things with low boost on EZ30s but they are pretty fragile. A mate of mine actually has a forged/turbocharged EG33 in a GC8 which so far makes pretty decent power on low boost though its pretty hard to keep cool haha.
-
Haha I try I think folks underestimate the things, RB30s tend to bring spool down 500rpmish which is what people mostly seem to pay attention to, but its worth remembering that the spool is on a bigger engine too - so even if you had a 500rpm laggier turbo on the RB30 it'd argueably *feel* as responsive as the more responsive turbo on the RB25, trick is its actually that much more responsive. Terrible use of English, but might still make sense? I reckon I'd find a GT3076R annoying on an RB30 after having one on an RB25, and a GT2835 isn't THAT much different to a GT3076R really. For what its worth a twin scroll T04Z on an RB30 makes my car feel like a laggy sack. Definitely experience it for yourself, but the difference between the two motors is much more than saying "half a litre" justifies.
-
Given you don't still have the stock turbo it seems that you aren't JUST after response, have you driven something with an RB30 in it yet?
-
Still a butt-tonne of power, I'd say regardless of dyno its run on it'll blow the aspired-to 200wkw at 4000rpm target out of the water
-
GTX3076R doesn't look like a big enough step to justify itself and the GT3076R is a little small for a 3litre, anyway I'm not sold on the GTX turbos yet, and await the EFR7670 with interest...
-
No, its making 411kw @ hubs But yeah, most interested to see what it does on the 1/4 if it were possible. Thats very very very fast times power...
-
Sounds like NZ
-
Thats very very cool, always suspected they should be able to make that kind of power with an un-shy amount of boost - wicked power at 4000rpm too Any plans to get it on a dragstrip or something?
-
Some much more useful and promising results, a back to back test using a .82a/r GT3076R and .82 GTX3076R on the same car: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2110277

E-manage Ultimate (emu) 56k Beware (screen Shots)
Lithium replied to STATUS's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Hi guys, there seem to be a lot of people who have used the EMU with success so was hoping someone might be able to help out a Greddy Emanage newb - please bare with me if this turns out to be something silly. I am helping a mate who is running an E-Manage Ultimate in his Honda, neither of us have used one before and hardly anyone in NZ seem to use or know much about them. The setup process all seemed pretty straight forward, and for the most part it seems to work fine (fuel/timing adjustments seem to work as expected, datalogs look otherwise sensible, after a bit of adjustment to suit the car mostly drives and idles fine despite having 60% bigger injectors/big cams etc) aside from where we get fairly erratic timing on datalogs as the RPM increase, I am sure its not a representation of the factory map. Basically timing jumps back 10+ degrees and rpm seems to drop (even if vehicle speed is static or increasing) within a single log entry once it reaches around 4000rpm. This is felt as a bit of a misfire when driving. We've replaced potential points of failure in the dizzy and checked for dodgy earths to no avail - and I've just had an from someone who tried to dyno tune their Supra running an EMU last week who is also getting jumpy ignition logs, I've not spoken with him yet but given the EManage is the common factor on something similar I thought I'd see if anyone has encountered the same kind of thing... or more importantly, fixed it? We are hoping to get it on the dyno next Saturday but am not going to do anything with this issue floating over our heads, so any input would be greatly appreciated Thanks! -
Ah my bad, I hadn't seen the last post by Geoff. The GTX3071R post looks interesting though, 521hp is pretty epic- thats pretty intense. People who are familiar with Dyno Dynamics dynos, is the mode that is done in some kind of flywheel estimation? I normally take 521hp on a DD dyno to be pretty big power for a GT30 turbo.
-
Saw results for a GTX3076R, so far unimpressed - if I had been told it was a GT3082R I would have believed it... more power than a normal 3076 but also quite a bit more lag.

Best Turbo For Power/response/tyre Frying/sliding Action
Lithium replied to chocco's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
This kind of conversation happened at the start of the year and I made a vid with a few runs that people asked about the performance of showing the spool against the AVCR in different situations, should give a basic idea. Car wasn't dyno tuned at this point, running a .82a/r internally gated GT3076R on stock manifolds and a stock motor so its the most minimalist possible GT3076R setup - cams and better manifolds etc would only make it better: -

I'd absolutely love to experience a GT2835 and a GT3076R back to back, I went with the GT3076R with the view I might end up going to a built motor and IMHO the GT2835 suits a completely unopened RB25 nicely - but not much more. -

Thats why I gave you a range of options, seeing as you didnt specify a price in the first place. Obviously a GT3076R with internal gate is probably the most suitable option for you.
