  1. The hell kind of question is that? I am pretty sure it made around 180rwkw on 7psi during a very early tune session, ran low 14s like that. I can't run any less than 12psi with the current setup - drag season is coming up, could have a friendly manual versus auto comparison
  2. Even thats debateable, a lad I know was making ~1200whp out of his EVO before he gave up on it partly due to not being able to justify the cost to buy transfer case etc which can handle the grunt involved. Someone has got their 4G63 drag car into the 6s in the states which must be making some huge power... its a bit annoying.
  3. I admittedly have been pretty impressed with STIs I have driven, they feel quicker than they are though. One car which really impressed the hell out of me was a Mitsi EVO 9 - amazing cars. The handling, power, breaking etc is amazing from factory and they respond awesomely to modifications as well. The starting point is better than an R33 GTR, then they respond better to modifications. They are however, still not a GTR...
  4. Yarp, left the stock feed exactly as it was and cut out a slot to suit that and the intercooler piping.
  5. Shielding the pod is a great idea - the majority of air will be coming from the front of the car, the ambient heat from behind the filter basically acts as a contaminant to your nice cool air. The front of your car has a huge high pressure zone when you are moving, so long as you allow a path from there to the filter your car should not be starved in the slightest. I made up a perspex airbox back when I had stock turbo, S-AFC etc and checked the AFM signal on a few runs before and after to see if it dropped or rose and I'd say if anything the airflow meter felt that there was more air flowing through. Possibly denser air, or that the margain of error was greater than the difference in flow Mr Rice - I had the stock intercooler when I did it, it was a prick but still possible
  6. Haha its been a while since the last "flame someones dyno figures" session on here. Nice work Superjet, sounds like a very impressive setup - be good to hear how it goes on the strip. I know RIPS has run around 150mph in a full weight R34 GTR without NOS and slightly less boost on an RB26/30 with the same or less amount of "turbo" so while I can't make heads nor tails of how different Oz dynos read, I know that if your head is good and the tune is nice - a 26/30 with a bunch of turbo, good fuel and 30psi can make for a very hearty amount of power.
  7. There is a huge difference between 14.9 and 13.4 man! In NZ I have not heard of anyone getting anywhere near the results they get in Oz for whatever reason, so don't hold your breath. Managing a 13.xx is a worthy result on street tyres here. With an auto you may be struggling that bit more, too...
  8. AVC-R has no option for no duty, so one way or another its going to be allowing pressure through to the actuator. I believe 20% to 90% are the options, which is a bit of a pain in the arse.
  9. Agree with previous comments - but also wary of the reference to .86a/r exhaust housing.... are you running a T25 flange one or have you just confused .86 with .82? If you are running the GT3076R-WG they run a trimmed turbine wheel, smaller housing and lesser trim compressor wheel and 290rwkw would be very impressive going!
  10. Helmholtz resonance tuning shouldn't be a new idea really for anyone exploring using ITBs or any serious NA tuning really, the whole idea behind going to ITBs is to redefine the intake runner resonance and use that to maximise throttle response and torque across the utilised rev range. Such tuning is also what good exhaust design is all about :-)
  11. Yeah I don't really see the advantage it doing it that way... definitely more -'s than +'s.
  12. I believe the RIPS Drag R ran 9.46 @ 153mph in the UK this weekend running full interior and radials with the owner driving
  13. If I heard correctly, it ran 10.1
  14. Yeah this is one of the reasons I don't want to spend big money on changing the boost control setup, I would like to get a G4 and use its boost control functionality and sell the AVC-R on - I have looked at the software and it is very very nice. There is the possibility of a bit of a change in my overall setup at some point too, though I'd like to wind the GT30R up first and see what it can do. I am a bit loathed to spend much money at the moment due to the effect the economy is having on my situation so will just be doing a road tune to touch it up a bit, there was no real timing and a bunch of fuel in the zones I wasn't previously hitting so I didn't pop it while testing so hopefully that will boost the torque even more - but there is a dyno day on the 26th September which I hope to put the Skyline on, so will be able to put up some more solid results. It would be good as I don't really have a decent idea of exactly what the spool is doing myself. I tried doing another clip just to see where it starts building from etc, this time just loading it up in 3rd so you don't lose complete view of the tacho - if you have decent sound you should be able to hear where I put it into load and how long the turbo takes to spool up. I was running 1bar here, which was reached before 3500rpm... sorry I can't reference boost at the same time http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uxnc9uK_D0w
  15. Agreed - fanboys (and haters) both annoy me a lot which is what is driving me to respond to this thread a lot. That car will have no headwork, a mate of mine hit 11s with an EG Civic with a completely unopened K20A - yes stripped and on slicks though. He put some big cams in there (bolted in, no headwork) and got an 11.3 out of it. Agreed - which is why I mentioned stock turbo. Yeah that would be very interesting, I'd say it should be a good race. Still haven't changed my view on it - stock for stock it'd be close, exhaust and filter on both the R33 starts getting the edge, but exhaust and filter on one and not the other would result in the more modded one winning.
  16. That vid was in answer to the stripped K20A Civic racing a 400hp Supra, people called BS - so I showed what a K20 Civic in a stripped EG goes like. I realise its different to what the threads about, but hey other people are doing it so why not The engine internals in that Civic are completely stock... In terms of changing what I am commenting on, its in response to other people... I've just been keeping the facts straight. I obviously own a Skyline and prefer it as my toy, if you'd been paying attention you'd realise depending on the level of mods I was actually saying the Skyline would win by a fair margain... just correcting people when they make statements which are a bit misguided
  17. I didn't say cars full stop, but its clearly obvious you and a lot of the other people here know very little about Hondas.... that Civic is powered by the same motor as in the car this thread is about and as I have mentioned before, have huge potential with boltons. I was pretty much expected people to be in denial about that K20A vid, so here's another which shows a time etc: 113mph is NOT no top end, I am unaware of anyone getting that kind of trap speed using a stock turbo on an RB25 without NOS... so no, I don't have trouble understanding what people are trying to tell me - I'm just making the mistake of getting into a debate with someone who clearly knows so little about the topic that they don't realise they're wrong.
  18. OK its all relative, you have to keep into account what we were talking about when such comments were made. I said myself that black and white a modded turbo Skyline will deal to a stock Honda - what kind of stupid comparison would that be to make though. My Skyline was making nearly 200rwkw when me and gotRice? did that comparison.... I'd not have liked to have thrown a stock 25T into that mix. My reference to the VG30 being slightly laggier than STOCK (I didn't say laggy as an absolute) was due to the fact that when I had the stock S2 RB25 turbo I could launch from 2500rpm and be at the tyres traction limit all the way through first, got 2.05s 60ft on street tyres?? I couldn't easily go faster than 2.2 with the VG30 turbo as I had to use more load for launching, mean I couldn't just drive off the line at low revsand nail the throttle like I did with the stock turbo.... lag isn't purely based on rpm.... The taking until 3rd gear to start pulling away wasn't due to lag, it was the fact that the two cars were close enough in acceleration that the 25T needed time to make a bit of a speed difference... for what its worth both gotRice? Honda and R33 trap within a couple of mph of each other. I am sorry you are getting a bit excited about the fact that what you want to believe is being challenged, but trying to argue something with someone who has clearly been around both types of car in question for far longer than you have been around either of is not a wise idea. gotRices R33 and Type-R both did high 13s with boltons... Umm, 250rwkw - barely making boost in first, and somehow being faster than cars with way more power? I have made 280rwkw with mine, I have no issues making full boost in 1st, and full boost at around 3500rpm rolling on in 4th... it doesn't sound like yours is a magically efficient 250rwkw - though if you reckon its comparable with a 480awkw GTR, take that thing to the drags! Be good to see some a 250rwkw 25T running comfortably over 130mph trap speeds!
  19. He said more or less even in 1st and second, that doesn't mean faster - and I was running a laggier plain bearing VG30 turbo at the time due to my stock turbo blowing. Don't agree with you there man, I happen to own both an R33 GTS25t and a 2.2VTEC Prelude (with just exhaust and intake) and I am pretty confident the Prelude would at least keep side by side with stock standard R33... I quietly suspect the Prelude would actually have the legs by a slight margain too. An R33 with the same mods however would be a different story. Power wise, I have attended a dyno day with my old Prelude with intake, extractors and exhaust which made the same or more power (141wkw) than two R32 GTSts that were attending... so a tad more than 100kw haha.
  20. Have you read some of the other suggestions in here?
  21. I don't think of a 14cm twin scroll housing as THAT big so I guess it depends on what you mean haha. Works out as roughly the equivalent to .96a/r if I have it right? Are you running an RB25? I don't really like the idea of a single entry manifold with a twin scroll turbo, wouldn't the "spool valve" method you are using only be effectively a bandaid to mismatching the exhaust pulse collection. It would be interesting to see what the difference would be if you had a nicely designed twin scroll manifold - though me and mates have blue skied about building a twin scroll manifold with an actuator designed to close off flow to one scroll and bypass the flow so that its a single scroll 1/2 a/r turbo until acceptable boost is reached then revert to twin scroll.
  22. The guy is referring to a DC5, and I was reserving judgement until I was sure it wasn't one of those nasties with a Hytech header/intake/K-Pro type combination which could make a basic R33 a real headache even on the 1/4 mile imho. Once it was clarified it was probably stock, I called it a white wash And I've mentioned I've dealt to DC2 ITRs on the strip already so figured no need to get personal haha. That and I had a non-stock (not that a VG30 turbo is an improvement) when you and I raced
  23. I am going to have to reflect and maybe study a little more on this rant, it is definitely an interesting one though more theory based than anything? When it comes to the real world, what negative effect do you feel the GT3582R would have versus using a GT3076R for a similar power level? The reason I ask, is from my own experience with .82a/r GT3076R going to a .82a/r GT3582R on an RB25 I feel that the compromise in low down spool is no more relative than the extra flow level you gain. GT3582Rs behave very very well for the amount they flow - in fact from my experiences with them I'd call them damn near the most reasonable stepping stone from being a proper street turbo into the "Big laggy turbo pond". They are still well useable, but they really can make some big numbers... theoretical breakdown of what may or may not aid their cause aside. Similar rated Holsets argueably spool similar to similar rated Garretts, and they are famous for their wheel and housing designs - the way many would match a Holset turbo would be the equivalent of a tight a/r on a big wheel and they seem to behave very very well despite being a plain bearing job. Any thoughts on how/why - is this apples for oranges?
  24. A JAZZ!!?? Why are you using one of those to represent performance Hondas!! May as well use an R32 GXi to gauge how Skylines go!
  25. 14.1, was a bit of a slippery track - I reckon I could have gone quicker in better conditions but never ended up getting a good meet before upgrading the turbo. The Honda was running mid 14s with basic boltons.
