Can A Stock R33 Beat A Civic/integra Type R/s?

A JAZZ!!?? Why are you using one of those to represent performance Hondas!! May as well use an R32 GXi to gauge how Skylines go! -

14.1, was a bit of a slippery track - I reckon I could have gone quicker in better conditions but never ended up getting a good meet before upgrading the turbo. The Honda was running mid 14s with basic boltons. -
Yep, most impressive acceleration from the basement up I have ever experienced was a GTR running an RB30DET + T04Z at 1.8bar, it was insane. Pulled hard from low revs and went mental at high revs - definitely very cool. If you mean affordable accessibly "snap", an EVO 9 with boltons and a retuned ECU on about 1.5bar you end up with a fair bit of a weapon. Get it tuned on E85 and a dose of boost and you should be capable of potentially going deep into the 11s with factory "rally car" style response.

Hate to say it but when I had just filter and exhaust on my R33 I schooled a couple of DC2Rs at the drags... only Honda which has beaten me was an 11s turbo Civic. -

Ah OK I didn't read the first post as him saying the Honda is stock - sounded more like he was using a blanket "Just a Honda...." statement the way I read it. Yeah it'll be a white wash if its a modded Skyline against a stock Integra unless the Skyline driver has a fail, it seems a bit silly to compare! PS - what do you have? Those sound like crazy ratios. The relative gearing in my pos Honda daily driver and my Skyline are quite similar, pretty sure the Honda reaches around 60 in first, 100 in second and 140-150k in 3rd. My almost-stock 1992 Honda runabout did mid 14s on old shocks, shit tyres, full interior including spare wheel and tow bar when I decided to enter it at the drags when the Skyline was playing up which was amusing haha. -

Thats especially the case with the non "Type-R" spec ones, the DC5Rs have a pretty aggressive 6-speed manual and the whole NA/flat torque thing makes acceleration a bit deceptive but yeah I do hear you - the top end in your typical turbo Skyline and your typical NA Honda are quite different things. As mentioned a few times now, the K20As these latest Hondas come out with are a bit of a different beast to the 1600cc and 1800cc motors of 15 years ago.... especially when they come attached to a 6speed gearbox with sharp ratios. -
Awesome, cheers for that! On that note, rumour has it Heat Treatments may be sending the GTR over for an extended holiday to get a decent run on surfaces which have a chance of holding some of their silly power they seem to be able to make. If that is the case it may be the final straw to end my procrastination about having a jump over the ditch to check out feesh and cheeps and see what this Oz drag scene is like, amongst other things I reckon Mark and Reece lined up could make for some amazing racing!

Really they just need to race There has been no comment on what mods the Honda(s) have done. K20As have a bunch of potency, are very much not to be underestimated. -
Awesome, congrats on goin 9.45 Thats really getting moving! Congrats to Mark as well, what kind of trap speeds was he able to push out?

If you want >350rwkw then don't mess with a GT30 hot side in my personal opinion. I know there are varying theories on the matter, but one of my good friends had a .82a/r GT3082R on his EVO and ended up running to the limit of its hot side and replaced with with a .82a/r GT3582R. He swears black and blue that in the real world the GT3582R was the better package and basically considered the GT3082R a bit of an unnecessary distraction. His car since going to the GT35R is more pleasant to drive, tune, and goes faster all around.... going by anyone I know who have used them and then moved on, the 3082R seems like an answer to a question which shouldn't have been asked. Honestly, as soon as you say you are targetting 350kw I feel the GT30 series should be ruled out - especially when you have the T4 TS GT35R as an option. If my crystal ball is at all accurate, your spool and response will probably rival the GT3082R lads (not that there are many out there) but your midrange torque and peak power will leave them hiding in the shadows.

LOL thats almost the opposite of my experience, FWDs are a bit disadvantaged as the weight is shifted off the driving wheels under acceleration and all the power is in the high end of the rev range - making them not that well suited to drag racing. Here is the closest I can get, a JDM S14 Silvia (which are very comparable with R33 GTS25ts) against a JDM Type-R Integra, stock for stock. The Integra is only a 1.8litre version, the DC5s running the K20A make more power and torque stock, have better gear ratios and respond ridiculously well to modifications for an NA motor which already makes good power: -

Got video and/or time slips? Sounds unlikely unless he can't drive and you are a ninja. -
What Turbo Upgrade Gt35r Vs Gt37r Vs Gt42r
Lithium replied to MJTru's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
A mate of mine is putting a Precision 6765 (AMS obviously trying to lay some claim on it by calling it an AMS GT950R, cute...) on his built RB25 which previously ran mid tens full street trim on a .82a/r GT3582R... I'd imagine it should be running some time in the next month or so. I believe the plan is to get at least 500rwkw out of it, and any more would be a bonus. I can see if I can post results on how it behaves when its done, I wouldn't be surprised if its a little laggier than full spool at 4500rpm but they don't appear to be bad for the power they can make and very very impressive for a T3 foot print turbo. I am still waiting for more results from them, AWDMotorsport got >800whp out of theirs on E85 and clearly had a broad enough power delivery with it to run an 8 in "street trim" but they were running damn near 50psi.... doubt you're going to be going there. I will try and hunt this thread down if my mates car ends up running any time soon! There is no other T3 flanged turbo I am aware of which would allow you to make that kind of power, I would be inclined to lean towards a GT4294R with a twin scroll manifold or something along those lines if I were after the power you are talking about personally. -

Neither does an R33? Savin - are you saying the guy has both a Civic and an Integra or are you just trying to get a Honda vs Skyline thing going on? If its genuine, what does the Honda have done to them? Overall I'd lean towards the Skyline as having the advantage but it is potentially close enough it could depend on driver and mods -
Look here - ignore turbine housing a/r and check the turbine housing style list, near the bottom is what you are looking for: http://www.atpturbo.com/Merchant2/merchant...tegory_Code=GRT

Disco: Its interesting you say that people don't think of the GT35Rs as much without the T4 flanges, I see they don't appear to be that popular in Oz but my impression is that around the world the GT3582R is quite a popular thing and its following is definitely not losing any steam - as evidenced by people now releasing twin scroll turbine housings for the CHRAs and people like Forced Performance etcs forays into trying to optimise them by putting bigger compressor wheels or smaller trim wheels to try and improve their balance ending up more trouble than they are worth. I am of the opinion that once you hit a .82a/r GT30R setup's limit then its time to move on to a GT35R. I have seen tests and/or opinions on other forums which indicate people find a twin scroll T4 GT35R spools comparably with a .82a/r GT3076R - which even is a bit optimistic indicates to me than a 1.06 a/r single entry GT30R and a T4 TS GT35R would probably be very comparable. When you are talking a 3litre engine, the large improvement in turbine flow in itself has to be reason enough to consider the GT35R I would have thought? You yourself I am pretty sure advocate the split pulse advantages, or are you suggesting there should be a 1.06a/r T4 split pulse option for the GT30R? That would be pretty cool I guess, but a 1.06 a/r single entry GT3076R sounds like a silly thing to me - especially for someone talking about 350+wkw. Sure people here have hit that figure with them on E85, but really its gotta be leaning on them a bit.
-
Yep one of those would be awesome on an Rb30 I reckon
-
I don't really think too much of it, I'd go no smaller than a GT3582R on a 3litre to be honest. A twin scroll GT3582R wouldn't go amiss though!
-
Nice Wish I had too. Good luck with it, will be good to see how it comes out and welcome to the GT3076R family haha
-
May be worth seeing what others think, but I strongly recommend against mounting off the exhaust manifold - for a start it is at odds with your vanity claim but its generally the worst option you could go for. You know the factory manifold is divided in design?
-
My bad, which bit did I worry you with? In terms of wastegate placement I just warned you off one way and recommended two better ones - off the turbine housing is near the best setup you could do, so long as you're not too vain. The only thing I'd be worried about is .63a/r hot side on an NA motor, you're potentially going to be quite timing limited.
-
In power or spool? Would love to see dyno plots of such a setup as I have always been a bit curious. I doubt spool as a mate has a 20G on his RB25 and it spools about the same as mine, and needs a little more boost to make a couple kw less.
-
Hmm I had a .63a/r turbine housing and wasn't really happy with the amount of exhaust manifold pressure I was getting - not to say it was a big problem but not ideal, especially if you are going to shoot for near 300rwkw. I am running a .82a/r internal gate and am making 1bar by 3500rpm. Don't modify the factory manifold, in my opinion - you get an uneven feed to the wastegate and it can also cause havoc with the exhaust flow. I would either run a spacer with a wastegate feed off it, or modify the turbine housing with a feed to the internal gate. I reckon the 44mm will be a winner.

This is the T51R SPL RB26 one that was at Taupo? Its not very sensible Yeah RWD with over 400rwkw without drag radials isn't a good idea, Ashleys 25t on normal road tyres had no traction in 1st, 2nd and 3rd and the increase in traction in 4th actually made it seem more dangerous than the lower gears. Something very unnerving about passing 160kph and the back end starting to wander!

How can you tell from the ID tag that its HKS spec? It looks identical to what I remember mine looking like. Interesting the .63 is considered more responsive than the .82, on mine there was barely a perceptible difference!
