Anybody know if this looks like BB turbo? Do the non BB turbos still have exhaust housings that are useable?

R33 Gts-t Turbo Removal Complications
benl1981 replied to FrangaR33's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Yeah save for 3 years. Buy a 4AGE corolla and return 7-8L/100km You will save a lot in petrol - wish i still had mine with the high petrol costs. Imagine how cheap an R33gtst will be in 3 years.. under 10k for sure. -
Thanks Cubes. No I don't have cam gears or others. I am in negotiation with GCG so I may be able to sort something out with them because the turbo was sold as a standard Rb25 so should suit the car the way it is. New cams are a big deal..take timing belt off, rocker cover etc. Not really up for that.

Cubes.. "The holding a steady throttle, boost builds and then starts surging 'while' holding that same throttle opening" That is the problem that I find difficult to live with. Motorways etc when doing 100km/h in 4th or 5th. This is definately a problem when holding a steady throttle and boost just coming on whilst maintaining same throttle input.. ANd when I say flicking between load cells...its more like 3 or 4 cells. The AFM voltage I can see flicking between 2200 mv and 2700mv, you can feel a slight roughness but this oscillation is usually followed up by a large jerk and you can see the AFM voltage jump straight down the vertical when this occurs.

Yeah sorry Cubes. I do have an issue when holding a constant load also... i.e. around 0-3psi. So a non-BB housing is not interchangeable to the rb25 turbo?..Does the VG30 non-bb turbo still have a 45V1 on the compressor housing..i.e. how can you tell? Hardman69 - what sort of highflow do you have?? I would like to rectify this. I don't think the boost control will fully get rid of it..since the problem is very close to atmospheric pressure or at 2psi etc. The wastegate should be fully shut around this area. Like hardman said - fully opening the throttle clears it up. E.g hold a steady light throttle up a hill (promoting around 0-5 psi) and you will get reversion and a jerk. If you do the same thing but fully open the throttle from the start you won't get it. When you change housings you still have to get new seals don't you. GCG reckoned that to put on a new wheel they had to put new seals in. ..they said anytime they dismatle a turbo..! I would have thought the cartridge would be sealed though. I wonder if the R34/vg30 housing would fix this issue.

Anyone know how to tell a BB VG30 turbo from non-BB? Is the exhaust housing from a non-BB not useable on a R33 turbo? Thanks

Problem still there so definately a turbo isssue..

I found a vacuum hose that wasn't connected - the one just after the AFM off the rubber intake pipe that connects to the solenoid. My solenoid isnt used ( always closed) but I usually connect it up to close the system. This hose was just dangling there.. Will check tomorrow to see if it makes a difference..probably not.

Yeah I've spoken to them quite a bit and shown them pics of my turbo before I installed it. They can't see anything wrong with the specs. I know it has an R33 exhaust housing..so yeah maybe the R34 one would reduce this effect. Might be the easiest solution - just machining off the cg30 housing as opposed to changing wheels..

Rb20 Wastegate Actuator Part No.?
benl1981 replied to benl1981's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
For anyone that cares - Rb20 vs rb25 actuator.. Rb20 is the top one -
BHDave - the surge is quite noticeable - so you think an r34 housing with the larger volume may reduce this a lot!? Cheers

Rb20 Wastegate Actuator Part No.?
benl1981 replied to benl1981's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
What is the HKS actuator? How many Psi? The reason for the rb20 actuator is in the case I want to reduce the boost I can just take the boost controller out of the system easily.. I reckon only gaining 5-7 psi from the boost controller should be ok.. Otherwise I'll tee off and insert an orifice piece that bleeds off a set amount.. -
Rb20 Wastegate Actuator Part No.?
benl1981 replied to benl1981's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Hmm that's interesting. What I found. Stock turbo with bleed adn rb25 actuator - making 10 psi High flow + same actuator + same bleed setting - making 10psi Now - rb20 actuator no boost bleed - 9 psi. I just have one of the cheap bleed valves - will connect it up again when I have my injectors on and ready for the tune.. -
So the exhaust housing from a non ball bearing VG30det doesn't fit on the R33 turbo?

Rb20 Wastegate Actuator Part No.?
benl1981 replied to benl1981's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Thank for your help Chris. I got the Rb20 actuator on. It seems to be holding 0.6bar ~ 8.5-9psi. I might check my gauge against a calibrated one. Definately about 4-5psi above the Rb25 one which will make it easier to get 14-16 psi with the boost controller. Have you found yours hold more like 9psi? I took pics of them side by side. Quite easy to identify them now. Did you want the secret kept though -
Could do I guess..good idea..but the size of the exhaust wheel will still be the same.. Would have to get the R34 exhaust housing bored out to same size as my one though.. Might be able to get a little video cubes. No mods to BOV, stock one etc.. Thanks guys

What The Hell Is Wrong With My Turbo?
benl1981 replied to DRUX's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Yeah almost certainly the clutch. As boost is about to come on the clutch slips, hence all the load on the motor is gone and you don't generate boost..like reving in neutral -
Umm - I'd rather not have to be so careful with it if I can fix it. I was hoping to get as close to OEM driving behaviour with quite decent power.. I haven't heard of many others with this problem so Im thinking it may be in the turbo. I just put on an Rb20 10 psi wastegate actuator, once I get the new injectors in and fix up whatever im going to do with the intake I will take it to the tuner and see what they can do..If still an issue will take the turbo off and get a different wheel put on it to reduce this effect. Mine is an earlier GCG so I dont know if they have fixed them afterwards.
-
Gee - I find it odd to think I have to modify the intake so much. I guess it may beat taking the turbo off and having it reworked. Cubes..Can you still have the stock air intake - i.e airbox and still do that you think? Bit of farting around.
-
Anyone found this. Mine has got worse and now it is just annoying. Makes the car feel so old. I took the glovebox out but it is in deeper. I dont think it is the air vents either. How much work is it to pull out the dash!>???
-
Sometimes I can definately feel it - but that's when it jumps about 5 or more cells in one hit straight down the vertical axis.. So with the BOV attached did you still get a similar effect. What spec turbo do you have and on what engine? Cheers

pretty please

Come on. Somebody must be able to check their map tracer? Thanks
