My Sister Getting Her Moneys Worth
cowie165 replied to cowie165's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
That's a fair point - I mean, there's some stuff I don't care to understand, as long as it works (like the fridge, DVD player, etc.). She came down for a looksee when I was doing a few bits and pieces. I don't think she understands the 'why' but definitely understands that taking care of your car is important. Yeah the little motor must have been up to its eyeballs in oil. Go 4AFE, you've been very hard to break. I recently managed to talk her into swapping the old corolla for an Impreza RS. Now she has a car that will support her driving style rather than restrict it -

My Sister Getting Her Moneys Worth
cowie165 replied to cowie165's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
lol, no worries. The tyre came from her Corolla that is now doing what the GT-R used to do (driving me to work), so it can sit happily in the garage for a few months whilst I fix a few things. Hey when's your car back? Should be well and truly sorted now? and to the female SAUers out there, that wasn't meant to be gender bashing, just that neither my sister, wife, mother, mother-in-law, any sister-in-law, coworker nor neighbour knows anything past turnkey. Well actually my wife is pretty good these days -
Well by comparison, if I said "me fail English? that's umpossible" would you know where I'm at? Seriously though, after a few rereads I'm almost up to speed. I'd prefer to replace the factory wiring but I can see it being a pain in the butt. There may be enough room in the dash for one (maaaaaybe two) of the relays - have you considered placing them there? I like your idea about removing the high beam relay. If you can fit them in the stock relay box, I'd do that. Are you using 12V direct from the battery or are you tapping something in the dash? I've read that using the constant for alarms and headunits can screw them up by reducing the input voltage to the equipment...? 100W globes sounds nice but I've recently read that guys that have tried them ended up melting/damaging the plastic within the headlight itself. I've not seen it myself but apparently it's a square peg/round hole sort of thing. You're making me keen again! What did you pay for the Narva relays? Cheers edit: great diagram! so for all the guys that haven't seen a circuit diagram since uni, you are drawing 12V directly from the alternator? seems unusual, so I've probably got it wrong. That'd mean you'd need a voltage regulator in series after the split?

Shan would you mind reposting the R32 wagon pics please? I have R32 ute stuff but never seen a wagon. Thanks!

I was under the impression that NSW Motor Traders were required by law to provide buyers with a 90-day warranty on every vehicle purchased, as a safeguard against the ol' sawdust in the gearbox days. Guess I need to check on that again.

Guys once you've had the part number confirmed, could you please leave a post in the R32 Parts thread? http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...showtopic=18066 And Waz can you confirm the part number please dude? The one you left in the thread years ago seems different to the ones guys are quoting. Cheers all Mark

Alex would you mind posting your progress with the relays please? I'm planning on doing the same thing but if you're going there first some pointers would be great. And if you've not yet started, I made a DIY headlight switch replacement thread in the DIY section. Has a few pics that might help things along. Anyway mate, love to hear which relay you used and where you placed it. Cheers Mark

Spotted JAS-25T on the Princes Hwy at Sutherland/Kirrawee last night. I don't like R33s and I don't like (the lack of flared guards on) GTS25ts, but I love that car. Very nice.

Hi dude. Here's some of the General Maintenance FAQ-goodness http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...howtopic=127517

Hi mate. I'd place money on it being the AFM, but not the element/hot wire but the plug/connector. I had the same problem with one of my AFMs. The joins inside the plug go dry, causing the resistance to go sky-high (to infinity), which results in the voltage dropping off to zero. The ECU doesn't know what to do and you end up with the rough running for a few seconds until it jiggles around and you have a voltage across the plug again. You can test for it with a Consult cable. You can fix it by either replacing the AFM (but hard to check which one it is without a Consult cable) or by desoldering and resoldering the joins. The job isn't actually that hard, provided you have a desoldering tool. I'll chase the DIY and post it here. Mark

G'day Azza. Sorry mate, been out of town for a few weeks. Don't worry about the beers, cause I sure owe enough around the country I hope you sort the lights painlessly. The switch is the same in all R32s, so swapping your bro's switch would be a cheap way to test it out. The switches are a well known cause for LH headlight failure. You can tell it is starting to go when you switch your lights on and only the RH comes on until you click on/off again or give it a hit Fonzie style. As Deren said, good idea to check your fuses but I'd be surprised if any had blown. Could you please report back when you've sussed it out?

You'd think so but then again the government had to legislate against it 32 years ago and it still happens...

Are you sure the exhaust bolts are still tight? If they weren't torqued correctly perhaps one or two have loosened enough so that there is a little play in the dump->front section? On downhill it rests against itself but uphill it is just hanging and banging around as the car goes over bumps etc.? I'd doublecheck that everything is tightened, and as Deren said, hangers are on and ok, before coughing up your hard earned for a brace. If it is on right, it shouldn't need an extra brace.

Hi Matt, welcome to SAU. Firstly, learn some manners mate. Noone here works for you and without a please here and there you aren't going to have anyone help you. Secondly, in the toolbar just under the SkylinesAustralia banner, there is a search button. If you don't use it first, guys will flame your threads for asking questions that have already been answered in the past. Please give it a try and then come back with any questions you haven't found answers for. Mark

Phil I can lend you a trolley jack and four stands for a few weeks mate. Only complication is I'm in Blaxland (10mins west of Penrith) but if you're happy to come out then I'm happy to loan. It'd need to be tomorrow though as of Sunday I'm out of town for two weeks. Mark

I have moulds to supply fibreglass copies of the Nissan skirts. JustJap and UAS retail a full sideskirt, rather than the three-part skirt that you buy from Mr Nissan. For reference, I'm pretty sure the plastic skirts are still available from Nissan but are just over $400 per side. Unfortunately I don't have any made up at the moment and didn't have any plans to have them done. If you are keen, shoot over a pm and I can see about having a set manufactured. Mark

My TPS output at idle is 0.41V Is that about right? Is that what most of you guys see?
