Leyburn Sprints, "around The Houses" 2009
Noddy replied to dat2kman's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
has the suface been fixed since last year? It was more a rallycross than a sprint. We wont bring the RX2's back till it is better. -
Awsome, I plan on trying to make that event too. what a track to race at. I went out there april last year for an untimed sprint day. there was a race meeting the day after so i guess we were sweeping the track for them. By days end I was clocking regular 60 sec laps. I imagine racing there and on the new surface will be totaly different though. found some incar form Gatton this year in the same car And Lakeside last year from early in the day before the battery went flat. I was pulling 5th before the bridge after lunch and got braver onto the front straight. Damm batteries.

Not at all, it was fun to follow and see the machine at work. If any thing I should have read you better at the start and held back. It was an interesting experiance and lesson well learn't. Give me a heads up when there is a good opertunity to come down to wakefield so I can get a look at racing on your home track... instead if drifting it. -

I was just looking through your pics petern, there were some beautiful examples Datsun & Nissan brand there, or ditsuns as we were calling everything. I had a bit of a crappy time at the sprints with an intercooler pipe popping off twice on what would have been pretty decent runs. Timing was fustrating as I and a few others had AIM systems in our cars will probably confirm. Boosted Z my best lap was 1.08:81 on the 2nd lap when u were following. All the times here are straight out of my AIM MY-CHRON2 Run 1 for me was looking good, Standing lap, was my best for the weekend 1.11:71, at the startof the 2nd lap the hose to the wastgate cracked off, old and hard i guess, then with the over boosting an intercooler pipe popped off going down to the flip flop resulting in a lap of 1.11:34 and a NA lap @ 1.20:98. when the pipe came off it knocked the powerstear canister and spilt some fluid. It came back to haunt in the 3rd run. Run 2 was a mess resulting in a DNF. I think that was the most angry I have ever been at any time in my life I knew my headspace was all kinds of messed up and left the track not compleating the run. My most sinceer appologies for any offence it may have caused anyone. Esp John P, sorry. Run 3 John P was following and was going to be a ripper, but, that pipe popped off again. I then cleaned all surfaces with petrol not jus a rag as I did after run 1. 1.11.92, 1.08.81, 1.18.27 run 4 I got lost on the grid starting next to the Sureflow Zcar. Mate that thing is loud and off putting, I slotted 3rd to launch in... not a good plan. The Zcar made turn 1 first and waved me by going into Siberia. There was a light shower on this run making conditions pretty greasy. 1.12:48, 1.10:04, 1.10.14. Run 5 John P and I had the front row and it was on for young and old for Turn 1....I lost of course, that thing has got grip and power to burn. It was fun to chase him down in the corners. The most bizzar sensation is seeing the slotcar on the picks into turn 1, gum tree, siberia or the flip flop pulling up for the turn while sill being hard on the loud peddal myself well into his braking area and closing hand over fist. All the while I hoping like hell he was going to get off the brakes and start accellerating so I didnt give him a friendly nudge. Very odd sensation. Also being pretty much under the wing of it comming on to the front straight for the end of the first lap, John obvoiusly nailed it just a fraction too early on the exit where there is a bump..... the on off on again power tank slapper was an eye oppener and sphincter clencher in 1. A very fun run and probably our quickest. My timing showed, 1.13:15 (I lifted off big time the tank slapper right in front), 1.09:52, 1.09:71. At the dinner Mark took 1st outright with some thing in the 3.23's, John P with about 3.32ish and Brad B @ about 3.34ish. Will have to check the Zfourms for exact official times. All in all a fun weekend meeting new ppl, catching up with other we haven't seen for a few years and getting to know otheres we have competed with regularly better. Looking forward to 2011 at Wakefield, we will probably have 2 cars to enter. Gotta beat that slotcar. -

Blow me stupid boyz, If you had such a problem on the day take it up with the officials, plead ur case with the evidance backing up your side of the story. I know I can be too but this is realy childish. I had serious issues with the timing and took my datra from my AIM lap timing up to the said officials. they looked and aggreed that the timing was off but it so be it. Hard as it was for me to accept it, my official time stayed as was, end of story. If you have a problem MAN THE HELL UP, see head official, get a verdict and live with it. That's life. With that in mind, perhaps if you guys are so annoyed with the event.... organize ur own event and run it your way. -

Now now fella's, there is 1 thing you should think about first. The flag marshal at the bridge was no other than John Siddens, a name you should know as the guy who will peddle a 240Z car power/speed sliding it harder than either of you ever will and he has won his class at Taga tas before too. WRXkilla, we could hear you kicking the clutch at least twice on the lap in question going under the bridge... so put the propper footage up. There was a distinct lack of skylines in the sprints, Warwick is not very far from brisbane. Where were all the guys that run at QR??? -

Went out to practice yesterday, so many cool old and new cars, this is going to be super ditsan shoot out. Very much looking forward to sunday. Although I didn't see them, booted Z tells me Mark and Ross are comming with the 34 and 35 GTR's. -
From a trimming point of view I have seen a fair wack of the seats avalible and what ppl like. I have to say it is a very personal thing. Having said that There have been ppl who have found a seat that fitted them but not found comfortable to sit in. Seats can be modified and bolstered to suit what you find comfortable. Finding a trimmer willing to put the effort in is the hard part.

what is this group 5 race thing??? -
depending on the materials you chose and embroidery, I shouldn't think it would be much if any more than the $300ish mark for a normal Vello seat. the wrap around seats will be abit more in materials and to be honest there a bit of a pain in the butt. Niel, PM sent.

Getting back on track, Gatton that is, I'm not a big fan of the average time thing. It included the first lap which is traditionaly not included so ppl don't over do it and have a very short weekend. Even thought it doesnt change the class or catagory positions, it did put my official average lap time down some 10 places. In the weeks leading up to the event I had been working very hard along with my tuner to get a GTR manifold to work better for us in the bottom end of the rev range. Wed arvo after work I pulled pin on the GTR manifold and started looking for some stock runners, which I found in Bris. Picked them up that night, a 4 hour+ round trip with peak hour traffic. Thursday evening was on a mill making some mods for GTR inj and so on. Friday morning it all got put together and winched on to the truck. Stopped at my tuner and we uploaded the relivent mapping and kept on going to gattonso we could get through scruitnerring and setting up a pit. First run off the line pulling 2nd gear..... pipe pops off. 44 sec lap and my averag is shot. "Not to worry" I thought, "it doesn,t count". How wrong was I.

I have been lucky enough to get an entry and most looking forward to the super sprinting on the sunday. I am wondering what layout will be used? I'm keenly awaiting event details and a progeam of events. Should be a top weekend. -
They kind of look as if the front wing is there to scrape the road clean of debris. Bulldozers on slicks

This might not be totaly on the money, it was a while ago, but the local motorsport rumour mill put it something like this. The convenor of the course [(motorsport course)now retired] was on the Leyburn sprints committie (spelling?) and the date for the street sprints was on the week before a meeting at M/P. the idea being that ppl could come up for the street sprints, leave the car up here and do the Historic meeting the following week end. Someone with some clout at M/P took offence thinking that ppl would take thier cars home and not come back because there would be too many meatings close together. Or something like that.

looks simple enough. Was it a kit or something you made? I have been thinhing of making something similar for a while but it is always nice to see that someone else has had success first.... Tested it out yet?
