  1. Hi Guys, I have a 89 32 GTR with approx. 360rwhp. After a night at the drags i have started to notice a slight whine (definately not a clunk or grinding sound) that has been getting slightly louder over the past week. The symptoms are as follows: The whine is only noticeable in the 1,900 - 2,400 rev range in 3rd - 5th gear (I'm sure its there in 1 + 2 as well but engine/exhaust noise mask it) The pitch of the whine is louder with load i.e. engine braking or accel The whine is there in nuetral or clutch in at the above revs (i.e. while coasting) The noise is there whether the car is in 4wd or 2wd (i have a switch) I've checked the rear diff oil fluid and it was fine and in good condition (but replaced it anyway with new stuff) The gear and clutch pedal feel are still fine and the car felt great at the drags so i dont think anything has drastically let go in this department. The gearbox is also relatively fresh with a complete overhaul being carried out less than 15K ago. The tailshaft has always had a slight leak from the centre bearing (noticed because of a small quantity of sand/oil covering the floor pan tunnel) and i am guessing (with my limited mechanical knowledge) that the drags has finally made this part throw in the towel and that this is where the sound is coming from. Does anyone else have some suggestions for me to look at before she goes to the mechanics next week. Cheers, Parker
  2. I managed 12.4 12.6 12.8 12.6 In that order, reaction times kept going down, ET's all over the place and 1.8-1.9 60's. I dont think any of the GTR's got what we wanted based on the guys i talked to
  3. Low life drunken (i assume) retarded mofo's who have a penchant for urinating off the kenwick link overpass on a nice sunday afternoon while i happen to be boxed in the exact lane he's pissing on from a great height not 2 days after i've washed my car. Fair enough i knew that washing your car would make it rain soon after but this wasn't quite what i expected...I HATE yellow rain.
  4. I spotted a black XR6 turbo police vehicle today outside the Perth Central Law courts. Still had the usual aerials on the back window but from the front was inconspicous.
  5. Pull the plugs out and see which one is the 'dirtiest' after it has been missing. This should indicate the cylinder which is missing. Then systematically change the plugs and then packs from cylinders that are working for the one that is missing. This will allow you to diagnose whether your problem is related to the plugs or coil packs. If this doesn't solve the problem (like on my car) then it will probably be the wiring from the ignitor or the ignitor itself (like on my car:)) Just try and borrow these bits from a fellow skyliner and your on your way. Hope this helps.
  6. Submit a written accident report at the cannington cop shop (a legal requirement on both parties because damage exceeds $1K) and include all the details you have. Once it is in writing the cops have to follow through on the report. Where it could get tricky is if the car park where the accident took place is deemed by the coppers as being private property or not (most likely not as it was accesible by the general public i take it?). If it's deemed as public then they'll do him for leaving the scene of an accident and failing to report an accident and provide you with written advice of the driver at the time of the offence and their contact details. It's happened to me and i can only give praise to the police for their help in helping me sting the little pr$ck who did a hit and run on my last car. good luck
  7. I'm pretty sure you'll also find all police and other government vehicles have 6 rego stickers (i.e. June rego expiry) something to do with the governments love of order and being able to keep track of budgets etc.
  8. Been there, done that. Infact i waited so i could have my cake and eat it too. Saved and saved so i could buy the GTR with cash and then saved and saved and got the house. Thing is, if i'd got the house first i'd be a lot further ahead of the game than i am now. I dont regret what i've done but if i had my time over again i'd have stuck with my old line and got the house as soon as possible. Go with some sort of property (land, house, unit etc), if you can afford it in the first place (with a safety margin) it can only ever make you money, a car on the other hand.....
  9. Yeah, make it one more GTR as long as work doesn't get in the way like it sometimes does.
  10. Funnily enough i thought that too but thats what it was advertised as on greenline so i thought there might be a bit of an engrish reason behind it
  11. Hi, As per the title i have just bought a trust/greddy oil filter moval kit for my 32 GTR and have a couple of questions: 1) what type of filter does it take (145A??) 2) there is a 280mm braided pipe and a 300mm pipe is it important which way around these go or is it just a case of fitting each one to the nipple that makes the neatest install? This may not be the right place to post this but i guess one of our friendly mods may help me out with that. Cheers, Ryan.
  12. Try one of the RAWS workshops that have approval for 32's, i would think they'd have a stack of them or atleast know where to get them.
  13. I was always under the impression that you were allowed to go up to 2 inches bigger than factory spec...or was that only the rim diameter and not the width? There'd be more than a few cars that come with bigger than 7 inch wide rims from factory so i'm guessing you're talking about fitting after market rims. Meh anyway that table is good reading.

    Fuel

Just come back from the usual christmas break down south and got 11.5l per 100K in the GTR (460km from about 53L). Mostly 80 - 110kph country driving but it also included the odd full fang up to the speed limit and overtaking. Best figures yet.
  15. I beleive the guys at hyperdrive utilise the services of a mobile techo who is most familiar with all skylines/nissans. Give em a call 9209 3100 from memory
  16. OK just for a bit of an update. After doing about 200k's on the 6 range platinum plugs i took the car for a run down south (about a 230k trip each way) On the way down the car was perfect until up to operating temp and from then on whilst driving the car would occasionally missfire. The miss was almost always when doing a consistent speed and not bad enough to really worry about. For example at 110kph you'd feel the slight stumble every few minutes. The car sat overnight and the next day and then was driven home again where, suprise suprise, the car performed faultlessly and has continued to do so since. So my question is: Could the fuel sitting in the tank for the 4 weeks when i was away somehow have gone bad and caused my ignition problems or is it still likely to be a gremlin somewhere in the electrical system? I have left the same vehicle for up to 6 weeks when i have been away in the past and not had a similar problem. I only ever use BP ultimate. Cheers.
  17. Cheers, 360rwhp was at a peak boost pressure of 19psi (but after the initial spike it was only about 17psi max). I have the blitz dual solenoid boost controller (spec R) and it was purchased and installed new earlier this year. i know of quite a few of these boost controllers working well on GTR's over here in the west so i'm assuming my boost control problems aren't to do with the ebc. I've now done about 200K's on the 6 plugs and still haven't dropped a cylinder but there are definate ignition quirks when the engine is hot and most frequently this is at light throttle applications.
  18. P.S. i only run stock boost pressure normally.
  19. Thanks nismoid, the 360rwhp is with about 19psi. I say about 19psi because i have had some weird boost control problems that looks like being caused by the standard wastegates not being able to control that much boost. (peaking at 19 and then dropping to 15-16 and then fluctuating between 15 and 17psi) I've had quite a few thorough looks at the loom and the connections to the coils themselves and haven't been able to find anything amiss. But as you say these sort of niggles can be a tail chasing exercise to sort out.
  20. Hi Sau brains trust My 32 GTR has recently developed some troublesome ignition related problems and i am hoping someone here with more knowledge than me can help shed some light on the problem. It all started about 5 months ago when i went to start the car one afternoon and found it had dropped a cylinder. On inspection the 3rd spark plug from the front was very dirty and assumed that the coil pack had given up the ghost. A friend had a set of splitfires available so i grabbed them and also replaced the plugs with a set of pfr (or is it prf?) 7 platinum plugs. All was well until last week when upon returning from 4 weeks away (the car was started and run until warm every weekend whilst i was away) the car had once again dropped a cyllinder. Once again the 3rd spark plug from the front of the engine was fouled but the 4th one was also quite dirty (the rest were perfect). As i needed to use the car i cleaned both plugs and changed their position in the engine so if #3 or 4 fouled again i'd know it wasn't just a dodgy spark plug to blame. 50km later and dropping another cylinder i find that only #4 is fouled and #3 is pristine along with all the other plugs. Seeing as the position of the fouled plug wasn't consistent i have decided to try a set of 6 platinum plugs incase the 7's were just fouling up because of too much time spent idling and not getting thrashed (i understand they are a 'colder' plug?). I've now been driving without incident for 100k's and the 6's seem to be working much better. I am however noticing more hesitation and missfires than before my troubles started last week. Both set of plugs were gapped to .75mm. The car has: Rebuilt engine (forged internals) N1 water and oil pumps R34n1 turbos PFC Djetro Sard 700cc injectors and the usual boost controller/exhaust/pods etc with about 360rwhp I have also cleaned and inspected the earths on the ignition module and the bolt holding the coil packs down at the rear of the engine. The only things i can think of left to try is another ingition module and/or loom that goes from the ignitor to the coil packs. Can anyone help with some suggestions before i go running to my workshop? Cheers.
  21. Yep, had one in my GTR before the twin plate went in. A good single plate clutch in my experience.
