  1. I was having this problem when I stopped sharply, it was happening when the revs come down too fast. I read somewhere that it has to do with something kicking in at low revs that is supposed to make the car quieter at idle, and if the revs came down real fast from 2k+ to the 500 it's supposed to sit at when idling my car would stall every time. Also was stalling occasionally when stopped in traffic, I could tell when it was gonna do it because the rev needle would bounce from 400-1000, could hear it struggling then stall. Could fix this by getting the revs up a bit for a sec then bringing slowly back down. Anyway, not sure what caused it in the end but since I had a full service (change timing belt, fluids changed) it hasn't stalled since (about a month so far).
  2. Isn't that camber too though? mine are bald inside which is why I'm replacing them but it's because of the camber setup...they've been rotated already so the "outside" is pretty bald too. Anyway I've got the day off today so I'm going to ring every tyre place in the phone book and get prices on yokos and anything else in my price range. When I'm done I'll post the best quote I got on here...it really makes a difference when the $$ are spread over 4 tyres - in the four or so phone calls I made so far the price difference in the yokos adds up to $140.
  3. Yeah I was gonna say...lots of people would say R33s look too fat as it is (Not me though, I prefer to think of them as big-boned, or muscular)
  4. Hey what's the advantage of wider tyres? Just that you're putting more rubber on the road? Is it a noticeable grip difference? And is it a good idea putting wider ones on the back since then you can't rotate all four? What kind of price difference is there between say 235 and 215/225 etc anyone know?
  5. Yeah I dunno...I wish I could find someone who has actually used the Regals (as opposed to the Dunlops which I'm 100% sure are excellent). As David said I'm well aware they may not be the same compound, but I'm sure it's comparable to many as it's not THAT much cheaper, and the tread pattern is great. Yep you get what you pay for but at least SOME of what you're paying is for brand name and marketing. I'd still love to get the Yokos honestly - every single tyre guy along with every person I've heard from that's had either A539 or C.drive says the only comparable performance tyres are about twice the price - that they're comparable with the Michelin Pilot series or Pirelli P Zero. But $240 difference... I'll try those places people mentioned but a few places I tried refused to meet the $250 I was quoted by Tyrepower @The Gap. Oh btw I'm looking at 215/45 R17s. Thank goodness I don't have 18s, nearly fainted when I saw the price of some of them
  6. Well after a bit more shopping around I think I'm gonna go with Regal RD-3100's. They're $180 each. I saw them in TTF at Taringa and the tread pattern looked very advanced for a budget tyre. After talking to the guy and a bit of research on the net it turns out that they're a rebadged version of Dunlop SP Sport 9000 which is Dunlops top of the range performance tyre which sells for $400 each and (incidentally holds the world land speed record apparently)!! And they're exactly the same, same tread pattern, even made in the same factory apparently. The only difference is it's a unknown kind of brand: and who gives a toss about the brand name on the side of the tyre
  7. Thanks for the input guys. Gonna do some calling around this arvo and check prices. Seems like it's really worth ringing around because so far for the same tyres there's over $100 (on all four together) between the highest and lowest quote, and I've only rung three places!! Checked out Bridgestone Potenza SO-3 which is what is on the car right now but they're like $350 each - no thanks! From what I've heard the Yokohama C-drive (which replaced the A539) is supposed to be really really good for its price, often scoops the pool when they do road tests. But it's about $250 each which is steep for me...so yeah I'll check out those Federals too. Yeah I heard the Michelin Pilots are very good too, but bit too expensive for me.
  8. Hey anyone know of anywhere esp. cheap for new tyres in Bris? Or anyone work for a tyre place? Looking for advice too...need to spend about $200 per corner max what should I get? I've been told Yoko A539 are pretty good for the price and that they can occasionally be found for about $200, although so far I've been quoted $278 each which is why I'm wondering if anyone knows anywhere better - that was at a Bob Jane.
  9. You can try my uncle: Custom Brakes & Automotive 3848 7788 or 0432 358 208 He's complied a number of 32 GTSt, GTS4 and GT-R at his workshop for dealers so he'd probably be happy to do them for individuals. Not sure about price though, just ask him.
  10. What if you used some kind of enamel-oil based paint? Usually they're a bit more viscous so it should even out to a smooth finish? Might be gloss instead of matte though..
  11. I never understood why some of the nicest colours on skylines are also some of the rarest?? Like red in R33s you would think would be a very common colour choice when people were buying them new, but they;re rare as anything. Also midnight blue and purple pearl - very very rare but everyone likes the colours...makes no sense - if I was buying a new GT-R I wouldn't just take whatever the dealer had in stock I'd say "no, I want one in purple pearl and if it takes a month for you to get one then it takes a month...."
  12. Hi do you still have the driver's side door window/lock controller cover? PM me if you do and how much you want for it etc. thanks
  13. Man that is one sweet looking GT-R good work I thought that midnight blue was an R33 colour? I've never ever seen a 32 GT-R in that. looks bloody awesome though. I'd love to see a 32 resprayed in midnight purple pearl....:aroused:
  14. How much for 100% CF vented bonnet to fit SII please
  15. Custom Brakes and Automotive 3848 7788 0432 358 208 Tell him Sean referred you off Skyline forums...he's my uncle and he's an engine specialist and drag racer with many many years whose own car has appeared in a number of car mags...he's really very good.
  16. Ahh thanks I wondered, damn, was hoping I could get an aluminium gt-r one to fit mine Hey for those interested here's a CF bonnet for sale on ebay for SII's. It's OEM style though, I prefer Aero style personally http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi...ssPageName=WDVW
  17. I know R33 S1 and S2 bonnets are different but what about R33 GT-R? Different again or same as either 1 or 2? where's the difference in shape?
  18. Dude worst comes to worst PM me you can come and do it at my apartment block I'm like 5 mins drive from UQ.
  19. Are you in one of the colleges?? There'd have to be places where you can do it legitimately. Otherwise do it on a sunday morning.

  21. They've gotta have a ton of taps on the campus don't they? What about that park about half way along fred schonell drive? Worst comes to worst there's a car wash at the shell on coronation drive. Or there's a tap I think in the carpark of the toowong bridge club. I've seen them do fundraising carwashes there.
  22. Yeah thanks man, wanna swap? Yeah same about the wave - it's what usually happens if I see a skyline, by the time my brain gets into gear and I'm about to wave we're both gone...best I can do is "say hello" with the BOV Saw a dark blue R33 either GT-R or GTSt with GT-R kit at maccas carpark at Mt Gravatt lunchtime today. Didn't get to see whether it was a GT-R or not as it looked like it was getting some kind of official reaming from one of those fancy new highway patrol cars...sorry I didn't hang around and chat mate but I thought I'd gtfo of there before they finished with you and checked over the only other skyline in the parking lot heh...
  23. I don't know of anywhere specific, but around UQ area around the shops and notice boards there's always tons of room to rent ads. I particularly recommend finding a room in a house of female foreign students.
