  1. Hrmm.. Cops rear-ending you... Has anyone been hit up the ar$e by a coppa? I wonder how well that would go down..
  2. Anyone in the Eastern 'burbs wanna meet up beforehand and travel to Thornleigh in convoy?
  3. Heh, it happens. I just do 20kph below the limit and drive as if I was doing my P's test :-) Oh, and you gotta accelerate *really* slowly, like a volvo driver. If you hold up traffic, then so be it. It's not illegal to be driving under the speed limit. One of my mates has his reverse lights hooked up to a switch and that used to really **** around with people who were tailgating. Wouldn't do it to coppas tho.
  4. Well, myself as a kid never thought that - it was simply a case of "that's a road and I'm not supposed to go onto a road for any reason unless an adult helps me". Anyway, I'm here alive now without the aid of speed zones. Anyway, I have no problems with the zones themselves (providing they're for primary schools, not high schools), but they really need to put more adequate signage up. I like the idea (from QLD I think...) of having flashing lights similar to those on busses.
  5. Hi Moanie - I can't remember. It was my first ever drive along that road. Anyway, I was heading towards Paramatta and it was quite a bit past the Kings School. Lol! That probably narrows it down to half of the road :-P
  6. I was just driving down Pennant Hills road the other night when I was driving through a school zone... And there it was - a variable speed limit fixed camera, with no speed limit posted. So it must be attached to the school zone I thought. And that really sux! I have no kids, I don't know when it's a school day or not. By the time I see the sign and try to work out if I should be slowing down or not, I'm already out the other side. Now, while I have no problem with speed zones for primary schools (IMHO if a high school student hasn't learnd road sense, then they almost deserve to be hit), the signage they have is really poor. I hear of other states that have flashing lights on their signs (similar to school busses) to indicate when you should be doing 40, but here if the driver doesn't have kids of their own, how should they know? I suppose it's a fair guess to slow down when ever you see kids, but you don't always see them because the speed zones start well before school goes in, and for quite a bit after classes start. Anyway, responsible parents should be teaching their kids road safety well before they go to school. And school should suppliment it. If I every have kids one day, sure as shit in a cat, there's not a chance I'll be relying on *anyone* but me to teach them road safety. I know all too well about these evil import car owners who counstantly flout the law with their irresponsible speeds and defective cars But damn, if a parent hasn't got the time or effort to teach their sprouts that cars are fast and hard and travel on "roads", then do they teach their kids that knives are sharp, and fire is hot?
  7. Heh, is that one of those shops that has Holden on one side and Ford on the other? :-)
  8. My commie will eat your skylines 'round the mount any day fo the week.. Except I don't have a commie. :-D Skylines still go around the track at Bathurst (just in a non-racing capacity)... I don't know of any GT-R's, but I certainly know of one GTS-T that goes to Bathurst every now and then.. Bathurst is my home town and I own a skyline and the rest is fairly obvious :-)
  9. Heh, I remember that race... Has anyone here done laps around mount panorama? I lived there for 21 years and did laps every week that I had my license, and I still make trips to Bathurst for the sole reason of having a couple of laps :-) I never get tired of it - heh, it was the only place that I could ever get my N12 pulsar to get 4 wheels sliding :-)
  10. Hi Guys, Not quite a Skyline question, but there's a couple of 180 owners hanging around in here... A mate of mine has a screwed up brake master cylinder on his '89 180sx. Do any of you guys know where I can get a full master cylinder kit (o-rings, etc as the housing is all right)?
  11. Nah, stock steering wheel. Something's a little weird 'cause Hicas will move my rear wheels while the car is stationary (not much more than a twitch though). No speed alert chime, and no speed limiter. Oh well, if it's not going to blow up my engine or anything, I'm not going to worry about it too much.
  12. A bit over 200. It was pointing near the other side of the hicas light.
  13. Dr Drift - Here's the crux of that problem... I cannot for the life of me get the ECU out. I exposed it, took off the wiring cap (with much difficulty) but I could not get the ECU's bracket off the bolts it's mounted on. To describe further (stop me when I go wrong) there are 2 nuts and one screw that needs to be removed. The screw is down the bottom, and the nuts are up the top, and right up the back. I could move the top of the ECU's bracket off the bolt that it sits on, and the bottom of the ECU came free when I removed the screw that held it in, but I just can't get the back of the bracket off the bolt that it sits on.. It won't move foward, back, left or right. So tight... Am I inviting trouble if I try to remove the ECU's cover while it's still bolted in place? I can then get in there with works digi-cam and get a couple of happy snaps. Oh, and if I do somehow manage to remove the ECU bracket from the frame of the car, what's the best way of unplugging the wiring loom? Does the battery need to be disconnected, or just have the car off?
  14. Hi, It seems I found the problem with my HICAS... My car can do more than 180kph and that leads me to believe that the speed sensor wire has been cut. I managed to work out where the ECU is (thanks to the forum), and managed to work out how to remove the footwell (thanks to a mirror and torch). I couldn't see any wire cut at the base of the ECU, nor any wires cut on the way into the wiring trunk.. This leads me to believe that it's cut elsewhere. Will having this wire cut affect the car in any way (except for HICAS playing up and no speed limiter)? Just want to make sure it's worth the effort trying to get the dash off to look in the back of the speedo...
  15. Ok, good advice. I just gotta make sure they put in the oil I provide, and not substitute it for cheap shitty stuff and keeping it for themselves :-) Anyway, I know a mechanic near my olds house who I might pay a visit to. We get along fine, but they might be too busy.
  16. Ok, now the interesting part. I don't have the gear to get under my car until I visit my olds this weekend. Just how hard is it to get the oil from out of the can into the top of the gearbox? What tools did you guys use, if any? Or can you just put it in a small coke bottle and slowly transfer it?
  17. Coolies. Oil ordered and expected tomorrow. Will replace on weekend.
  18. What is their phone number? I tried finding them in the phone books but they're not there.
  19. Where do you get this redline stuff? I'll go for that instead.
  20. Ok. So first port of call is gearbox oil. I'll try some VMX80 first and it there's no luck, go to Redline. If nothing else, the VMX80 will clean out the box. I believe 3.8 litres is the magic number here :-) Now, (to prove my general ignorance of car mechanics), I assume the drain plug is on the bottom of the gearbox. And it would make sense that the fill hole is up the top of the gearbox. Just where abouts is it? I think I might do it next weekend when I go to my old's place.. They have some ramps I can use to hold the car up and enough tools to get by. I had the clutch replaced as part of buying the car, 'cause during testing it would slip under heavy load. And now there's this gearbox crunching... Perhaps I should look at changing the diff oil too?
  21. Ok, sounds like a plan. 1) What fluid should I use.. Some sort of castrol oil I imagine, but what sort? 2) How do I change it? (lol!) 3) Would I be better off paying someone to do it, or is it a simple thing? I kinda want to learn how to do small maintenance tasks by myself.
  22. I can't see why the steering wheel would make a difference, if it were an r33 one without an air bag... If it's a different type of wheel (like a momo for example), I believe you need to get boss kits and shit like that
  23. Hi, I've noticed of late that when I go from first to second I get a crunch - regardless of if I'm pushing it or not (occasionally it doesn't happen though). From any other gear to second there's no crunch, and from second to any other gear is also crunchless. Actually, it's more of a feeling than a noise and it feels like one part is going faster than another. Once you get it in gear, it's fine. Could this be the clutch playing up, or something in the 'box itself? My previous car had a 3rd gear crunch for ages and it was OK. Mind you a new gearbox (or clutch for that matter) is worth more than the car itself. Is this likely to be a problem, or just a nusience?
  24. I normally kick it over as soon as I get in the car, then let it idle while I get myself ready - normally between 30 and 60 seconds. Then not go over 3K RPM until the engine is nice and toasty. Depending on how I drive it, I may turn it straight off (like a trip up the road to the shops) or leave it running for up to 7 minutes (long trip on the open road draging off everything I come across). Normally I leave it for about 3 minutes after an average drive. Listen to some music, check the mailbox, clean off the mats, or just admire my toy :-)
