  1. Methinks you need to consider your comments more carefully before hitting the send button. Perhaps also you need to be less touchy. If you had spent a little longer reviewing other posts, you would have observed that asking any question where you demonstrate little knowledge or effort to find the answer yourself is likely to be given short shrift. Such threads have often been stopped dead after two posts by a moderator with the pithy line "Use the search button". I am sure, that as someone from the Google Generation, you can come up with a search expression that would reap dividends on this forum - because it has all been answered before. In addiiton, as someone who has been on the forum for little more than a year, you might also pay a bit more attention to the advice offered by those who have been here for 5 times as long. Your question demonstrated not just lack of knowledge but also naivety. Your responses compounded this and I suspect that your thread only remains open for a short while for entertainment value! In case you haven't got the message, in summary, there is no way to get permission for illegal mods. The Engineer's Certificate provides a means of gaining permission for a heavily modified car that has gone beyond the variations allowed to the basic manufacturers specification - but remains legal within the ADRs. Also, if you want to survive on this, or any other forum, take some time to learn the conventions (largely unwritten) and pay a little respect to those who have been here longer than you. If you don't like that, you can always take your bat, neons and keyboard home. Please note, before you respond with pithy epithets, that a) I am being very polite and b) I am offering constructive advice. Please take it as such. Keyboard warriors are so tiresome. Cheers.

  3. Hey, mate. As James said, sensible mods should be no problem. The main problem here is that the individual Policeman can issue you with a yellow sticker if they "suspect" your car does not comply with road rules. So, if they don't like you, they may well ignore any permits you have and just give you the sticker anyway. So the advice there is not to be a smart alec! Yes, sir. No, Sir. So an exhaust that hangs no lower that 100mm from the ground, still has a cat and is not stupidly loud will not be a problem. The more subtle the outlet, the better. BOV is legal if it is plumbed back. Illegal if it is not - and just gives the cops an excuse! Wheels should officially be one of the sizes on your tyre placard/sticker on the car. If you go beyond that, it officially needs to have an engineer's certificate. But if your car runs, say, 17s, stock then you will probably get away with 19s. Just go over the pits with the 17s on. If you get 20s - expect some interest from the boys in blue. You also need to be careful of insurance with these things. The wrong size wheels might invalidate your insurance. Coilovers - check what the Australian Design Rules (ADR) say. If properly installed and set up, and with the car no lower than 100mm from the ground at the lowest point, it should be OK as far as Police interest goes. Tune - get a Nistune. Plausible deniability. Or get what you like and get an engineer's certificate, which is not that difficult. Intake - whatever you like as long as it is properly secured (more or less). Boost controller - these do not comply with ADRs. You can get a higher boost setting engineered, but the ability to change the setting from the driver's seat is not allowed, as far as I am aware. So make sure your Greddy Profec Spec B is hidden from view and an innocuous switch located somewhere handy to switch from low to high boost! Overall, get a good workshop who know what they are doing. Look at the workshops thread and take the time to talk to people who have had work done - and take a look at their rides. Cheers.

  6. Well there you go. It is an accolade. The greatest wanker of all time. Now I understand the intended insult - and many thanks to DRIFTT. I was mistaken in that it was not a Generation Y thing, though. Generation Y probably never knew that Paul Hogan had a TV show. I still don't understand why my correspondent felt A) that I deserved this accolade or B) why they had to deliver it. I can only assume they are Falcadore fans. Cheers.

  8. Hi, everybody. I know I should not expect everybody to have the same appreciation of cars as have you and I. I know that, at times, those less blessed than you and I with intelligence, taste and decorum will do something that causes me to ask "Why?? Why did they bother???" I know that I should take care about where I park my pride and joy, because otherwise these two connundrums (in fact that should probably be "connundra") may become joined and achieve a level of attention from me that they do not deserve. Yes, I may even become fleetingly annoyed. But still, this one got me! You see, I parked my car in the Harbour Town car park on Saturday arvo for about half to three quarters of an hour. (Quite why the place is called "Harbour Town" is another mystery, given its location, which probably goes some way to explaining why it attracts a certain type of people .. ... .... .....) When I returned, I found that somebody had kindly left a note on the windscreen, in which they sought to share with me their innermost thoughts, having been moved to words, no doubt, by the sight of my car in all its glory. I pulled the note from behind the wiper with some trepidation, as the note paper chosen was, alas, not high quality and rather crudely torn from an inexpensive ring binder notepad. Might they have expressed awe at the glistening Bayside Blue? Might they have wished to congratulate me on the Do Luck side skirts, with the Nismo rear quarter pods that give the car that low line? Might they have wanted to comment on the Do Luck carbon wing stays that lower the rear wing and give a more subtle profile to the car? Or might they have enjoyed the tongue-in-cheek word play of the number plates? A thousand questions were spinning through my mind. I opened the paper. It said: "LEO Wanker"! WTF???? Now I am sure, because of the second word, that this was meant as an insult. But an insult is only worth delivering if it is received as it is meant. What the hell did this mean? Is "LEO" an acronym for something? But overall, why did they bother??? Why go to the trouble of getting your notepad and pen out of wherever they keep it, write this intended insult down, rip out the page and carefully place it behind my wiper? I did check the car and could see no key marks, or bottles under the tyres or anything else. Even the tyre valve caps were still in place. Can anyone offer any thoughts on what this was supposed to mean? Yours in bemusement.
  9. Hi. I did this in October 2009. See my thread about it, including planning, with lots of pictures on the last page. GTR across the Nullabor - both ways I would recommend using the BP and Shell websites to see which stations sell 98 octane fuel (if you need it). They are very good and give the kilometres to the next one, plus a map. (Which is fairly simple, given that there is one road for the main part!) Also look at www.nullarbornet.com.au. That is a great website that gives distances between each town, plus information on places to stay, what to do, mudmaps around the areas, etc. Really good resource. I found every one of the roadhouses to be really good. I did my own study of the ham, cheese and tomato toasty across Australia! All of the people at them were friendly and helpful, with only one exception in the whole trip. The best thing to consider, when judging any roadhouse or motel, is that you should remember that you are going into the back of beyond. If you are expecting them to be like city centre hotels and serve food and coffee to rival Melbourne cafes, you will be disappointed. Go with an open mind and you will be pleasantly surprised. Places to visit: Streaky Bay on South Australia. Great little spot and only a short diversion from the main route. If you have the time, drive around the peninsular to Port Lincoln. It is supposed to be well worth it (but I have not been). And do the Great Ocean Road! Take a few days to do it and explore some of the smaller places. Also, go to the Head of the Bight ranger station / tourist station. If the whales are around it is amazing and it is spectacular anyway. I drove to Geelong in 4 days and then we took 6 days to drive back from Melbourne, but could have done with a few more days to explore. I am glad I did not take the train to Adelaide on the way East, but it would be a good option to reduce your time on the road, if you want to. Ignore what people say about it being boring. It is the only way to see Australia. You don't experience anything from 35,000 feet! The towns, the people, the vast, changing vistas - it was an adventure that I intend to repeat some time. But maybe next time in the Land Rover, and maybe the GTR on a trailer to try out some of the Eastern States race tracks - now there's a thought! Cheers.

The car has been back on the road for a little while now, with a demon motor built by Garage101 (by Steve Thomas). With a spec list that leaves a crater in my wallet, but a lovely push in the back. How does RB30/26 with HKS V Cam grab you? All very cleverly tuned with a Haltech (by Danny Fisher). Every time I park it I walk away looking back at it! Maybe I will turn into a pillar of salt?   12. Hi, all. There have been loads of topics over the years on "what's the best fuel". (The search button is your friend!) The situation has also changed over the years as more 98 octane fuels became available in WA. I have, with undoubted modesty, pontificated on the topic in several threads in that time!!   13. My reading is that it is a Stage 1 event, which does not require a rollcage or harnesses, but if you have them, then they have to comply with Schedule J. The point that I was less clear on was whether just the driver needs a L2S licence, or whether the navigator does as well - which would seem daft, as the driver must drive 100% of the time. If the "co-driver" is to drive, they must do a separate entry. I think. I am sure "Speedaware" would be happy to answer queries. I would love to do this, but neither the GTR or the Pulsar would be ready for next week or even December. I am not sure I could prepare either car adequately for January/February either. So maybe next year. Definitely keen on trying this kind of event, though. Cheers.
  14. Don't be surprised about understeer from a Skyline. Changing the suspension won't change that completely. The straight six is a big lump up front, so any Skyline (particularly a GTR) is going to struggle on the skidpan/autokhana - slower into the corner works better, to an extent, because you get better turn in. If you get out onto Barbagallo, you will be able to practice trail braking, which helps the transfer of weight and the turn in - which is much harder to make effective on the skid pan. In short, don't expect expensive suspension to deliver a solution to understeer - you need to drive it better as well! (Spoken from bitter experience .... ... ... and still learning!) Cheers.

You did want to order a year's supply of Viagra and to help that nice man in Nigeria with his $25,000,000, didn't you? Hopefully, the Pulsar will just have the two boys in it next time and won't have to work so hard ..... .... .... and I'll be in the R34! That would be good. Great to meet everyone again and some new faces too. I am glad it wasn't just me failing on the handbrake turns. It was much easier years ago in the UK on the ice, wet sand, anywhere slippy! Cheers.
  16. OK - had a look. Unfortunately there are no part numbers or markings on the clutch to determine what it is exactly. The only marking on it is the ATS "Active Traction Service" logo. My understanding of this product is that it comes with the flywheel as a package from ATS and that the flywheel is lighter than stock GTR. I do not know whether ATS make a lighter still version. It came out of an R32 GTR along with a near new R34 N1 crate engine, which went into my R34 GTR. The clutch would not fit the R34 (apparently because of differences between the R32/33 flywheel and the R34 flywheel. If it had fitted, I would have kept it myself. It will fit an R32 or R33 GTR. It is near new and it is a carbon twin plate. If you would like to arrange for someone independent to inspect it, that is fine with me. Cheers.
  17. Oops! Wrong picture. That is not my clutch. That is another one that the workshop was selling. Same as mine, but mine is newer and barely used. I cannot find the picture of mine. If someone wants a new picture, I can arrange it - but it basically looks the same! As I said, independent inspections are welcome. Make me an offer. I just want to get this sold. Cheers.

  19. I am clearing out some parts and have an ATS carbon Twin-plate clutch - almost new - $1,800 ono Suitable for R32 or R33 GTR (it came out of an R32 GTR). It is Push style. If you have an R32 or 33 GTR with a Pull style clutch arrangement, it is simple to convert your car to Push style in order to use this clutch. Only a few standard Nissan parts are needed (I can provide the parts list) and it is a simple bolt up matter. The ATS Clutch - Details: This clutch has hardly been used. I could sell it as new and you would not know the difference. I am selling it because it won't fit my R34 GTR (you cannot buy separately the ATS factory kit to make it fit the R34 GTR, otherwise I would have fitted it in my car). The advantages of carbon clutches are- * Shift response (due to lightweight materials) * Heat Resistance (Up to 2000 degrees C) * Deformation resistance. * Ease of operation. * Up to 30% higher transfer capacity than a "metal" clutch. * Due to the characteristics of carbon, the clutch has a very long life. Can be shipped inter-state at buyer's expense (freight to Eastern States only about $50). Fitting can be arranged in W.A. at the workshop where it is currently stored. I am also informed that it will not fit an R34 GTR because the fly wheel is totally different on R34s (which is why it would not fit my car).   21. I am probably a tragic. I admit it. I will definitely be considering (!!) tickets. Great to see Webber and the Red Bull Team here. That alone is worth the ticket. But ... .... .... .... ... ... .. .... ... .. ... ... .... ... ... ... .... .... Bathurst revisited is Holden and Ford only. The "super cars" are Porsche and Ferrari, with some 'Vettes and Cobras thrown in. I love the 'Vettes and Cobras but really they should be in historic or something! Unless it is a ZR1 'Vette. But then, if you are having a 'Vette, why not a GTR? Eagles vs Dockers - probably in John Hughes supplied Hyundais. Could be fun, if I was interested in the Eagles or Dockers. Why not get the Perth Wildcats and the Western Force involved as well? So far we seem to have the Holden/Ford Footy view of the world, with only the "super cars" they've heard of. No Astons or Bentleys? No Lambos? No SLK Mercs? Come on Barbagallo - you're not trying! Racing Trucks are a gas! Now then - Motoring Club Displays. Any chance we might get an SAUWA display? I couldn't see anything on the website to get in there. Or are they not recognising Jap Crap? As I said, I am trying hard to be supportive of this initiative in Perth. son of rajab knows we need events like this. But why does it have to be put together by people with the least imagination? I really do not want to pay money to see the Docker vs Eagles in Hyundais and yet another Falcadore festival. I have stopped buying Top Gear Australia magazine and gone back to the UK one, because the only cars the Aussie one talked about were the usual Falcadore crap. Give me a break! Bah humbug.
  22. Hi, guys. I would like to add my two penn'orth to this discussion. We need to take it back to "why do it", rather than argue about the fines and such if you get caught. As stated earlier, there is bugger all difference in performance compared to a high flow cat. But there are two downsides: a) you contribute significantly to pollution, compared to other vehicles, plus the safety concerns that Nic raised; and b) you contribute significantly to the bad name that being an import enthusiast already has. In fact, in the eyes of many, you justify the heavy-handed approach taken towards import owners. For those of you who may be dismissive of the pollution argument, it all counts. Just have a think about your values - assuming you have any! I bet you even voted Green! As for the second aspect, whether you are caught or not, I can guarantee you will be wearing your decat like a badge of honour - talking about it in posts, telling your mates, being overheard doing so and generally adding to the negative image from which we suffer. You guys who want a decat make me really angry. There are about 100 other things you can do to your car that will improve its performance, but you want a decat. You don't give a sh#t about other people, so you want a decat. You have a very small penis, so you want a decat. A decat makes you much more of a man, after all. In case you have missed the point so far - a decat is no help and detracts from a properly engineered car. It is also totally irresponsible, but as you are probably wearing studs through your eyebrows, black on black clothes, your trousers around your knees and think you are being a unique rebel, I doubt that will matter to you. As Nic said, do it, get caught and we will all laugh at you, contemptuously. Or join the real world, learn about your car from the knowledgeable on this forum and elsewhere and be welcomed as a constructive member of an enthusiast community, thereby contributing to improving the image of import owners.   23. Erm .. ... not quite! Air bags were introduced as a further improvement after changes to steering wheels and steering columns. All of these were needed because in a crash, the head is thrown forward and the seatbelt stretches. The face then impacts the steering wheel. A guy I knew back in the UK was a Crano-Facial Surgeon. He was always doing face reconstructions, including inserting plastic eye-sockets, because people were hitting their faces on steering wheels. As for the harness, I understand that the reasoning behind this restriction on road cars in Australia is something to do with the lack of movement to car controls that the inertia reel allows. But that may be total bolleaux, so don't take my word for it! To those of you who do not like air bags, just look at the statistics from crash tests and actual crashes. A few bruises in a low speed crash are a small price to pay for avoiding plastic eye-sockets. They are one of the most important safety features in any car. I am amazed how intelligent people can get hold of some aspect of such a clearly effective safety feature and declare their dislike for it! As for the wearing of specs, the pressure on the face from the air bag is spread out so the pressure on spectacles or sun-glasses would not be sufficient to cause significant injury. Bruise, yes. Eye injury, no. Cheers.
