  1. Thanks for the reply! Wish I had have known that back when I was doing my build (2 years ago now!). I'll definitely keep it in mind if I ever pull down the motor again. Have you got any idea of the power they can handle? Cheers, matt
  2. Gradenko - out of interest - how much work is there involved to fit the chev rods? And if you don't mind me asking - what did ya pay for 'em? Cheers, matt
  3. I did this to my Skyline about 2 years ago... Response is only marginally worse, and the car made an extra 20-25rwkw (this was with cooler, pfc, exhaust, etc). Peak power was 206 rwkw from memory. IMO - If you're pulling the turbo off yourself (like I did) then it's a worthwhile thing to do, however if you're paying someone to do it, save a bit more and buy a turbo that gives you more room to grow. When you have 200rwkw - 200rwkw isn't enough! Cheers, matt
  4. The same sort of thing also applies to "high-flowed" injectors... It stuffs up the spray patterns.... Cheers, matt
  5. Riceline -what's the prob with your car? Cheers, matt
  6. Hrmmm - that was just what my mechanic called it... Dunno the specifics on it, but I know it was "slightly" thicker than the normal ones... My mechanic said he'd never come across them before... If I remember correctly, I think the Nizpro guys said the limit for stock rods is around 500-550 ft/lbs of torque... Run less than that, and they're fairly reliable, much more than that, and the chance of bending a rod goes up exponentially. Cheers, matt
  7. I know of a GTR making near on 400rwkw on stock rods (racepace dyno) which have been running in that tune for quite a while. It should be running @ Calder tonight. Not sure whether that car is just a freak, but it gets track raced very frequently, although I think that's running less boost at the track. Emre & PH1's GTR's both make over 340rwkw and have been running around for over a year without any probs... In any case, I haven't heard of anyone bending a rod on a GTR motor. Cheers, matt
  8. Nah mate, I've got a RB30 bottom end... The static CR would be too low with GTR rods! I've just got shot peened, nitried rods... They are series 3 VL rods though - apparently they were slightly thicker at the big end than the series 2.... Doubt that's gonna make it much stronger though... If I decide to hang onto the car, I might pull it down in 6-8 months time and stick in a set of aftermarket rods and bump up the rev limit to 8000... Cheers, matt
  9. Ouch! 1 month? Mine's been running for coming up to 2 years now with around the 320-340rwkw mark (depending on which dyno you put it on)... I'm only running around 16psi and it's rev limited to 7500rpm. I was going to start upping the boost to 20-22psi, but after hearing that, I think I won't get greedy! Cheers, matt
  10. Good topic! Has anyone done any testing on strength of the RB30 rods? From what I've seen - it's not generally the amount of power that'll kill rods, it's torque... Hence why a single cam RB30 won't be able to make as much top end power as a twin cam... Cheers, matt

And that's exactly why I ain't running slicks! Ouch Yeah, I've got nittos to run on, so when I get my new clutch I'll be going out to see if I can run mid-low 11's. On street tyres there sweet f/a traction below 120km/h (or a bit into 3rd gear).... Ahh well, good luck with that... As you said, stay off slicks for a while and see what she'll do on nittos. matt

Maybe on a yank dyno! Nahh, they're generally good for 500-550hp. Cheers, matt
