  1. Well - any of the TD series turbo's have piss poor thrust bearings which will give the minute you start flowing serious power through them... Mine let go at 14psi (on a trust TD07S). I've heard of other people having similar problems, and it was only after I had the bearing modified that it was reliable. Secondly, as far as drivability goes, they don't know how to match compressor/exhaust housing or wheels. I've seen a T78 on a GTR make boost 1000rpm later than a Garrett equivalent of a T88 (a much larger turbo). A similar garrett turbo on my motor would make boost 1000rpm earlier. If you look at how they balance a compressor wheel on a turbo, they just cut chunks out of the side of the wheel, rather than garretts practice of skimming metal of the back of the wheel. Dodgy... Hence my post - trust turbo's are rubbish. matt
  2. heh - I was hoping it had rods in it, it's just the site didn't specify.. With that much power the stockies would have bent already Standard gearbox/diff etc? matt
  3. The lifters are still hydraulic, and due to the lower clearance required, it actually gives the cam more lift (although duration stays the same). Only real difference is that I'm running GTR valve springs in it. matt
  4. Serious? Well there you go! You learn something new every day Tomei's stuff is comparably priced tho which is why they were used in my motor... matt
  5. Sucks to hear what happenned to you mate... I got done for the same thing (not indicating or some b/s)... Worse part about it is he did me because I failed to indicate until I was completely in the other lane... I indicated and held the indicator on until I was two thirds of the way into the other lane... c#^ts. Predator666 - I've often wondered what would happen if you sat on their arse... not so close that you'd be tailgating though... If they say you were speeding - well you were just following their example! BTW - If any police officer is caught breaking the law, they're subject to the same fines etc as we are. You just need to report the number plate, time of day, and location with the branch officer, and they can get reprimanded. matt
  6. oh - btw inasnt - my car's got forgies in it... They were cosworth blanks & were HPC'd to boot. The rods are RB30 stockies that were shot peened, nitrided and all the rest of it... It really comes down to what you want to use your car for... if it's just going to be a quick streeter, get a metal head gasket to lower the compression some, stick some cams in it, and stick a T04e/GT3040/T60/(insert turbo of choice) and you'll get 250 on pump gas without any problems. Spend your money on a decent radiator and oil cooler. Cool inlet temps and cool oil and you shouldn't have any dramas. Run it with a powerfc and as soon as you see knock, take your foot off the throttle and you'll be right. Only reason I did my motor is because I wanted to have some fun at the track. FYI - Stay away from trust/mitsubishi turbos... They're rubbish. Only after I had mine rebuilt was it any good. matt
  7. Don't worry about the big ends... Unless you want big power (300rwkw plus), the stock ones will handle the job fine... Just make sure there's plenty of oil pressure - and don't use a shit oil. As far as rod bolts go - Tomei are the best mob to get em off... Unfortunately all of ARP's stuff is in imperial measurements, and you'll want metric matt
  8. BTW - I just noticed you had an RB30 in yours too... I've done the twin cam rb30 conversion in my car... With stock cams, the car isn't going to want to rev as cleanly to 7000 due to the cams being too small, but I've got a set of GTR cams in mine, and with 'em it'll rev out to 7500 without a problem. Out of interest, does your motor have aftermarket rods? Cheers, matt
  9. NFI about the auto's, but a manuals rev limit is 7000rpm. matt
  10. 17 is fine. Basically that's just engine noise. So long as you're below 60 then there's nothing to worry about, however, even a knock of 60 doesn't necessarily mean the engine is pinging. Cheers, matt
  11. From all the dyno readings I've seen, it gives an extra 10%. One car made 226rwkw at a dyno in shootout mode, and then the same day, made 206rwkw at Frankston tafe in the normal mode... A Supercharged V8 Clubby which made 312rwkw in shootout mode in adelaide made 280rwkw on this dyno. Normal mode does take air temps into consideration, and compensates, that's why you don't stick the temp sensor inside the engine bay...
  12. Matt - hate to tell you mate, but even with my car's power it still feels slow... :uh-huh: It only ever feels fast for a week or two... Then you feel like you've lost power... But if you run it on a dyno - same power! :burnout: BTW - Why's everyone running in shootout mode these days? matt
  13. Interested in the bumper/grill - Where abouts in melb are you?
  14. With 180rwkw (about 2 years ago), I clocked off about 5.2 secs with a g-tech... 206rwkw and I managed a 4.9... Much faster than that and you're pushing shit uphill with only two wheels driving, as you can only put down so much power in first and second... Try a 100-200 time estimate if you want an indication of a cars power matt
  15. Guys, my g/f is getting a new car this Wednesday, and she's looking to get rid of the Starlet. The dealer has offered her $4500 as is, so if anyones after a reliable runabout, this is it. Make an offer... Specs are as follows: 1998 Metallic Green Starlet Life 3 door hatch Stock! A/C Radio/Tape Cassette Non-Power steering 140,000kms - Most of which are due to driving from Melbourne/Ballarat. The car is in near immac condition, both interior and exterior. The only probs it's got is it'll need new brake pads soon, rego's only got a month left (May 15), the rear left shock makes a bit of noise, and it's got a chip in the windscreen. Other than that, it's in great nick. As mentioned, the dealer has offered her $4500 as is, so if someone wants to match it, go for it. Obviously this doesn't include roadworthy, so add that onto the price. She's selling it Wednesday, so if you're interested, can you pls let me know on my mobile asap (0402 085 864). Cheers, Matt
  16. Guys - I'm looking at going bigger and nastier again (heh), so this turbo is probably not quite up to my needs... It's a Trust TD07S which has been high flowed (T66 front wheel), back cut rear, and has had the thrust bearing modified to allow it to flow better. It made 316rwkw @ 14psi on my motor (RB30DET) and has full boost by about 4000. Obviously a little more laggy on a 25, but still good for a streeter. Ideal for anyone wanting big power. Requires a custom manifold and external gate.... Not sure what to ask for it, so make an offer? Cheers, matt
  17. Err... Yeah - go figure Sorry, I was just back from Sydney @ 8pm (long day!) so my brain obviously wasn't firing properly! Ahh well - next time! BTW - Jet-33 you have pm! Cheers, matt
  18. My car has GTR valve springs, and a little bit of a head tidy up, but that's about the only mods that were done to the head. The VCT has been disabled in my motor fyi. Cheers, matt
  19. Ahh Crap - You guys were around near TGI Friday's weren't you??? matt
  20. What? At donny shoppo? I hung around for about 10 mins - went upstairs and behind star bbq - all that was there was a camry and that's it... matt
  21. heh - I've already been there once, that'll do for me I'll come along some other time.... Have fun. matt
  22. Bah - I showed up at 11:30 at shoppo and no one was there! Blah! matt
  23. How longs the track? If it's a decent length I'm up for it 100%! See if my buzzbox'll hit 300. matt
  24. It was all done as part of one big package (RB30/T76) so not too sure... Not too sure what sort of benefits it would make by itself, but they are a fair bit bigger than the baby cams that are in there to begin with. Definitely need to get the cam gears too if you plan on doing this. matt
  25. 11pm? I might take my car down to say hello as I haven't been to (m)any meets lately! Right near me to boot. See you guys at 11. Cheers, matt
