  1. Totally agree Joel. GTR King, if you are serious in your comment, incinuating that people like us on the Skyline forum are cheap skates, then you are full of it mate.
  2. Matt, Great power result, that is a nice turbo for sure (when it makes that power at only 13psi), as well as a nice overall set-up and obviously a good tuning job by RPM and Martin, well done! I don't know why there is so much stuff out there baggin the Microtech. Anyway, you just need some tyres mate to keep up with us plebs in 1st and second! Go for the RE540Ss!
  3. Howdy, It's the opposite colour! Black, sorry. I'd love to see some pics if you're still interested, I can call you if you want, PM me your mobile if you've got one. The clean swap sounds good, mine is the upper spec bar (with brake ducts etc etc) also with some scratches on the bottom and the usual stone chips here and there, but otherwise clean.
  4. Hey Mark0, I just so happen to want either a GTR or 400R bar and want to sell mine. If you are keen on this idea then get back to me on a starting exchange cost. Tried to PM you but it's full. It looks like your car is a Series 1 and I assume your bar has some damage since it is too low Cheers, Lachlan.
  5. Yep, forgot to put that bit in, constructive and fair criticism and recommendations is what we all like to see, I didn't mean not do it at all, that's what forums are all about.
  6. Thanks Martin and all for the comments and clarification (didn't see all the edited ones...), it has certainly generated more valuable technical discussion regarding engine tuning and the like than I have seen in a very long time. However I'll refrane from such rash comments in future, and appologise for and retract from my now edited accusations. I believe you and keep up the scientific methodoly. Martin I think you are maybe trying to be funny and/or provide contructive comments on these threads but it comes across as arrogance at times and it turns people off, and unfortunately people like me react aggressively when others are like that on the forums. Maybe think before you write, many dudes have aggonised over the performance decisions they have made and paid for, to then be told in a forum by a reckognised tuner it's rubbish is a bit rich I think. Excellent contributions in the latter part of this thread however, good stuff. By the way, I saw you on Saturday at the Gorge Rd stage of the Classic Adelaide, was gonna say G'Day but I thought you and the other big lads with you might have chucked me in the the river! :argue:
  7. Guys, Soarer: I simply do not believe the Soarer has standard turbos. Until I see the full mechanical and tuning specifications for that motor then as far as I'm concerened the turbos are either high flowed standards or something like two Starlet turbos bolted on, whatever. You simply cannot get more power (i.e. 280rwkW) out of just tuning an engine and putting the right cams on there etc etc if the turbos are rated at 220-230rwkW (which they are), they are the governing factor. Tuning: It is not fair to simply dismiss the 11.2:1 AFR for Whatsisname's car as poor. If you recall, an article in HPI had the tuning of an R33 in it and the best power was obtained at 11.8:1 with a standard turbo. With Matt's bigger turbo and the inherant high comp ratio (and therefore high peak cylinder pressure), Tim obviously finds he gets more "safe" power by running a richer mixture but also with lots of ignition advance. If you lean it of a bit you have to bring back the timing at the expense of power and throttle reponse. If you could get back to us Matt on either what Tim says or what you're gonna do that would be interesting.
  8. Silly question, silly answers!:looney:
  9. Hi all, Just wondering how many of you out there has ever had an engine go on you, you know, big stuff like cracked pistons, ring lands, rod failures, valve gear problems, head gaskets, etc etc. If you can state generally what level of tune you had (rwkW) and why you think it happened, it would interesting to know. Looking forward to the horror stories! Freebaggin.
  10. Grepin's finally got the guts to come back to town to receive another lesson in R33 whip ass from Mr Turbo Genitals!
  11. Munro, What is the reason for your dislike for the RE540s? I have a dilema in that my Falken GRB II rears lasted only 9000km (fronts OK only 50% worn) and I didn't even punish them as much as I wanted! I want good traction, good price and half decent wear rate. $400-500 per tyre too dear for me if I'm gonna wear them both out once a year! Went to a hillclimb meet recently and most of the road cars had the RE540s and the others a mix of Dunlop Rs, Toyo RA1s etc. The RE540s are the best price by far, $330-340 (18/265/35) and the guys using them love them. Cheers.
  12. Number: 2 x Rears Type: Semi-slick street legal race tyres Size: 18"/255 or 265/35 Condition: No worse that 60% worn (40% left or better) Cheers, Freebaggin.
  13. Yeah might be the go, Tim has got that bolt-on 500HP R33 turbo pretty much sorted, would love to give it a go. However do not have a spare $2900-$3000. Should get 250rwkW no probs but for a daily drive is this a bit much? Whatsisname has no traction until third with "only" 236rwkW so it starts to get a bit silly. Anyway, I'll keep think about it and maybe work out how to get some rear end traction! I'm sure Tim could do a T3 exhaust flange GT25 for you and make it bolt-on. I'd say a 420HP jobbie would be the best combo for the 2L. It might scare me into buying the GT30 if you get it!!
  14. :burnout: Bring it on:burnout:
  15. No offence (including Chris32)
  16. You R32 floggs are in for a bloody good whippin next time we're on the road, 4x4 or 2WD! Teach you an R33 lesson you never forget. GFBs my arse!
  17. Matt, Yep thanks for the reminder, I'll burn off a copy for ya next week. As you've seen, the program interface looks real good, can't wait to hook it up and get some data.....hey, it will be just like "The Fast and the Furious", street draggin with laptops BTW my favourite is "Gialla. When a man see the car, he feels it gorgeous. Powerful and attractive. That's a Gialla". Maybe it should say "That's a Skyline":burnout:
  18. Just remember .... "Side Way, Don't be afraid of the Slip Way"... Japlish quote from the latest HPI My first cruise with SASA, top stuff, especially having the Holdens there...more please! I'd love to have a combined LS1/Skyline/WRX cruise.
  19. Guys, I only just got the latest HPI and now I know what everyone's talking about! Joel, I know that Tim used to use Spearco cores but now uses a different supplier (not sure who) in which the cores have a more dense pakcing of the plates/fins. So he seems keen on cooling rather than outright pressure drop. Whatsisname, Tim is such a considerate chap to do the colour matching, I'm sure he meant it. Also we do need to catch up mate (maybe tomorrow night at the cruise?) and hook up my controller to your beast, I'd like to see your minimum injector pulse width since you have a higher fuel presssure that me. It's interesting that Martin suggests the Microtech might have issues with big injectors and he might be right but I questioned Tim about minimum injector pulse widths and it can go down alot more that mine minimum (0.95ms) to give good idle quality and fuel consumption. How it compares to Power FCs/Haltechs etc would be interesting to know.
  20. AlexR31, Well my computer is probably not a good example as I got a special price since it was the development vehicle for Tim's/Microtech's new "Plug-in" R33 LT-12, so I really don't know how much just the chip and board would be, again Tim at RPM or Dom at Microtech would be best.
  21. INAST, If anything HPI (Martin Donnan) is biased towards Power FC in all many of the previous issues and articles and it gets a bit monotinous. It's as if nothing else will work on an R33 or a Scourer. xrsist, The engine bay is Whatsisname's and the inlet pipe is mine. BTW, my car is also in the HPI story featuring the testing of standard intercooler vs the 3" thick RPM B&P intercooler.
  22. Sorry, I was replying to AlexR31's thread and pressed the wrong button:o
