  1. gjb977, Unless you have good reason, I'd keep the HKV EVC, nice thing to have from scratch, gotta have good boost control, particularly with bigger turbo. Is it stuffed?
  2. Hey gjb977, Could tell me under what situation did the turbo fail? What is your engine set up, any mods? What boost etc? Were you driving hard on a race track? etc etc Cheers, Lachlan.
  3. Well surfing is cheaper than Skylines that's for sure....unless you are gonna start moding your board
  4. Hang on guys, the problem with Whatsisname's motor was nothing to do with the Microtech. I just asked, what other ECUs have individual injector control? What if it did, how would you measure AFRs for each cylinder anyway?
  5. Could the cause be a high pressure drop across the factory fuel rail and therefore no. 6 injector gets less fuel pressure and may have pushed it over the safe AFR edge? I would say the harder you push the fuel pressure, the greater the pressure drop. Martin, what ECUs has individual injector control? Have you seen high pressure drops across RB25 fuel rails? I've seen on a number of tune shop designed items, the fuel feed line is in the centre of the rail, thus ensuring more even fuel delivery for each injector. I will be thinking serously about a better fuel system when I bolt a bigger turbo on I think (as per Martin's HPI story some time back re RB25 injectors). Either straight fit SARD or new/better rail with whatever injector we come up with. Sorry for hijacking thread, should be in Matt's rebuild thread!
  6. Matt/Ivan, I paid for Greg (grepin) on Thurs last week as he was away and he is listed as not paid. Could you update it please. Thanks, Lachlan.
  7. OK, it's on, The "How Crap!" Challenge: Gotta beat Chris32's RB20 power level. Gotta beat MattR's RB25 powered power level (no it doesn't help mate). Gotta beat Nightcrawlers 400m elapse time. Gotta beat Martin's 1Jz power level. ....man-o-man. Give me some time & $$. Freebaggin. P.S. Also gotta keep grepin at bay!
  8. 193.8rwkW. Thanks Matt & Martin for the day! And yeah, the full list would be good to see.
  9. Whatsisname, Hope all is well this weekend for you & family. The mods sound great. RPM doing it?
  10. Matt/Martin, We might have a late boy, Chris32. He's back from interstate tomorrow morning and said he would like to have a go.
  11. What do you think of the new Stroker Kit for Rb25s from Sulzer?
  12. G'Day Martin/Matt, Count me in. The boost curve and Shootout features sound nice, but can we also have air/fuel ratio included please. I remember at the last SVD day, Tilbrooks did not want to do this as the probe was "a perishable item" and therefore did not want to use it up. A bit rough really when you pay between $30-50 to have a dyno. Anyway, looking forward to the mix of cars. Cheers, Freebaggin.
  13. Gotta agree with your last point SydneyKid, Garret are part of a large multinational corp, Honeywell in fact, and are heavily involved with the Le Mans sports car category, with Audi I think. They do the real R&D. All HKS do in terms of "R&D" is just mix and match off-the shelf wheels and housings. The local turbo shops can do that just as well or better I reckon, and you pay 1/2 the price.
  14. grepin has volunteered to use his R33 as the tow/recovery vehicle. As you may recall it's been specifically tuned for that purpose, that Power FC and OS Giken Twin Plate Clutch combo will finally be put to good use.
  15. Thanks heaps INASNT, Steve, SlowGTS-t & Sydneykid, pretty much as I thought. So if you size the hole, within the restrictions of the T3 housing and get the spring rate right, you'll be fine up to 300rwkW...cool. Might end it there however, too much discussion about holes and gas flow....
  16. Thanks lads. Yeah I know Matt's setup very well and he uses int. gated turbo and get's 250-260rwkW no probs and controls boost without an issue. I'm not sure spool up will be effected significantly, since if the spring is strong and the actual control system is good with either system, the boost will rise just as fast, but I think it is more to do with bypass flow at high RPM. What is the typical T3 internal gate diameter vs an external gate. The latter is usually 45mm is that right?
  17. There is some debate as to when to cross over to an external wastegate. I have R33, RB25DET and want approx. 250rwkW using bigger turbo preferably as bolt with integral wastegate(currently have 200rwkW @ 1bar with standard turbo + extras). Questions: * At what engine power/turbo flow does an internally wastegated turbo become a problem? * What is the problem? (Boost control at high RPM?) * What advantages will the ext. gate give me? There must be a point at which the int. one becomes a problem, and there must be a relationship between turbine/bypass gas flow vs the diameter of the int. gate. Does anyone have some HARD DATA on this? Zoom/HPI seem quite keen on external wastegates. Cheers, Lachlan.
  18. Yep good advice John. I put up with a bloody auto V6 S-pack VN Dunnydore for 7 years before I got a Skyline! Be patient, save as much as you can, minimise the initial loan amount and get exactly what you want in time. Can only be done by putting cash away on a regular basis.
  19. Grepin, Don't worry mate, since I am awayalso, I have asked Chris and Simo to keep the motor tickin over with a few runs up to AIR and also the Hillclimb meets. As a matter of fact the motor was oil surging as Chris was comming over one of the rises and so he topped it up with Valveline High Viscosity stuff......you know, the stuff you use for old Holdens and the like. Freebaggin.
  20. WTB: R33 GTR Seats x 2. No major stains, wear marks or ciggy holes.
  21. Chris32......mate that Vic square comment just killed me..::alcoholic I'll ask the guys at Mobil the fuel specs as well and compare to BP 98 but I don't think it will tell us much. BP & Mobil obviously have to make 98 octane or better, as that is what they claim but they change the make-up of the fuel in any old way they please that I'm sure effects the "effective" octane rating, if there is such a term. Winter & summer fuels are different for example, summer is less volatile to reduce evaporation in tanks and things they do etc etc. Zahos, maybe replace your in-line fuel filter near the bottom of the plenum chamber and it may run better.
  22. I've been using Synergy 8000 for about 90% of the time and it's been OK. When I swap to BP Ultimate i just get the feelign it's not bit more detonation prone but nothing concrete. Here are some specs of the BP website:
  23. Hey Steve, I hate to do this but I don't recommend Steve at Manta Racing. He does not have the full set-up in terms of alignment (none in fact) and is often too busy to attend to suspension work to the standard I expect in my opinion. Very very expensive labour costs as well. I have gone through about 6 different suspension places in Adelaide and only two have been thorough enough for me. First would be Bridgestone in Gouger Street, speak to Laurie and second City Discount Tyres in Tee Tree Plaza Area. If you want suspension parts put in then order direct through Whiteline and get either of the two above shops to fit.
