  1. Don't hammer it with anything. Use a large socket And a vice to press them together.
  2. Any good workshop that sets up race cars should have calibrated corner weight scales. If you just want an overall weight a public weigh bridge will do. I took my truck over one today was $22.00 If your in Sydney and want to know individual weights I can help you with that.
  3. There is no science behind the tank that I'm aware of. Normally I'd make sure it's capacity is decent ( 7L minimum usually) and it's not too over kill. I like Peterson tanks they have good baffling and oil control. Cheaper tanks tend to allow frothy oil to the bottom causing air in the pressure feed line. ( detectable with a clear hose temporaliy used during a dyno session.) Most systems I do with a tank supplied by the owner I do a clear hose check on it. Just to be sure tank they bought works well. Do the same with any custom tanks I build
  4. Trucks have pros and cons just as trailers do. I've just bought myself a 6.5L turbo diesel truck with a 9tonne GVM, 6 speed. It's already set up a a transporter with a hydrollic tailgate loader, tool boxes and storage etc. Fully enclosed water proof rear. I sold my tow car and trailer which funded the truck, my licence, rego and plenty left over to fabricate a new alloy loader deck, under truck storage and underneath tire racks as well as a split diff if it needs it. There are some bargain transporters out there which people have spent heaps of money on.
  5. I been busy and slack. It's in an mounts are machined up and bolted to the block. I'll take some photos over the weekend

  7. Id be pulling the box down. What do you mean by won't select 4th?? Selects and has no drive in 4th or physically won't go into 4th gear at high rpm? If it's the latter it could be a worn baulk ring, damaged selector, damaged selector hub, bent shaft etc etc.
  8. Id be doing it as a 3D car as well. Atleast it's done and you don't have to have that cage modified. There has also been a little talk getting around of a " time attack" category being added. If it happens it'll probably be like drifting and won't go anywhere with CAMS but oh well.
  9. There is a track school day next Thursday at Wakefield park. If you have the car already and ready to get onto it.
  10. IPRA will go backwards and put a weight restriction on forced induction cars before they go forwards and remove the restrictors. Its obviously been proven possible to win in a turbo car several times but I'd shudder at the budget spent getting there compared to other categories.
  11. Duncan you are getting good value from CAMS lately.
  12. Yeah you sure can. Duncan an probably clarify but I don't think you need to re log book the car. I think you just have to have a pre scruitenering inspection done to confirm the car meets the requirements for the category you want to race in.
  13. Ryan Ill use your car as an example. Normally its fairly straight forward as the car should be built to suit a category from the get go (or that is the ideal way to do it) You decide IPRA, prod cars, sports sedans etc etc. Get the rules and build the car to them, the whole time assuming if the rules dont mention it your not able to do it. In your case you need to determine what you want the car for. If its a sports sedan print off the regs and make sure your car fits into the rules before going any further. If its a production car you want then downgrade the car and again redo it to fit into the regualtions. Once you have a car that now fits into a specific category and everything is there from a saftey aspect ( cut out switches, pull cables, extiguishers etc etc, your ready to get the paper work happening. You should have the ROPS registration forms that I filled out for the cage when it was built. You also need to fill out a CAMS log book application and print off the pre scruitenering forms and fill them out with all your details. Once you have that done and you have a car that fits into the category rules, you can call and arange a pre scruit to look over the car for you. They will ask you what category blah blah. Some will come to you others wont, either way they should charge you a nominal fee for their time. They are not employed by CAMS and usually take massive offence to people who wont pay them. They will typically go over the car with the category regulations in hand and determine that you meet all the criteria which is needed. They will test you emergency gear and inspect the cage the best they can (welds around the roof etc ARE checked ive quoted 4 cages last month to be cut out and fixed after failing this inspection) If it is all good then they will complete your forms and give them back to you signed and with their number on it. From there you have to take the photos requested by CAMS, I cant remember the exact angles they ask for, and enclose some toye of payment in the envelope you send to them. ROPS rego form Log book application form Pre scruit form, signed off Photos of the car Payment of some type in full Send it all into them and await the log book to arrive. Its not hard but it does become difficult for alot of people when their car ends up "between" categories and doesnt fit properly. Its too wild for a prod car but no where near wild enough for a sports sedan, So you cant go backwards only forwards, sports sedan it becomes. With a few small changes that same car might fit back in as a catergory 2 car and be reasonably competative, compared to being a road block on an SS grid. Which is why its good to see Duncan trying to get skylines in as a 2F elligable car. They can be well modified and still fit the category 2 regulations.
  14. There is no right people at cams...... It seems there is alot of confusion among people who have never done it before as to the actual process behind getting a car logbooked I'll do a breif write up about what you need to do, how to go about it and what paper work you need to have before bothering an inspector or sending away an application. Might help some people understand how to go about it.
  15. I have been told by guy who have bought cages from me that the WA rules are much like nsw. No full cages but half okay if regoed as a two seater basicly
  16. I'd actually have a serious crack at building a decent 2F car if it had a category to race in. I can't see why it couldn't be reasonably competitive and wouldn't cost alot to get it together either. 3J ipra rules suck arse. As sad as it is if/when they ever get over protecting the value of early mazda's the category would be flooded with late model cars. Duncan I can't see the link cause I'm not a member but does the r33 fit into the regulations dimension wise?
  17. Where are you located?? Rules vary from state to state, in nsw a half cage can be legal of it's engineered and registered as a 2 seater.
  18. The person who inspects the car probably won't be that helpful. They don't get paid by CAMS to help you, I've found alot of scriuteners to be painfully difficult to deal with at times particularly if your unsure or after information, they just expect you to know everything. There are exceptions, mike Hanley is great to deal with, best thing he lives in my street and is easy to work around. Duncan knows mike all to well I don't think he is doing ore inspections now though. Like Duncan and I mentioned 2F is the category for your car. Unless you go ipra ( pretty sure you can unless you have fitted a floor mount pedal box now?) If there is 2B cars getting around then the skyline can be a category 2 vehicle.
  19. You can registeer a cage with CAMS without completing a log book application yes. But it's only a form that gets filled out to have the cage acknowledged as being in accordance to shedule J. It means nothing if latter on you want to log book the car for a specific category. Tomorrow when I get the time I'll cut and past the major changes in the regs that I can see effecting people with "old" cages. One big one that's worth mentioning in laymans terms If the distance from the front legs base to the top bend in the front leg at roof height is greater than 200mm in a side on projection ( pretty much every tin top and skyline etc) it will require a drop bar which meets no more than 100mm from the front leg/windscreen lateral bar and travels to within 100mm of the front legs lower base. Can be bent in a front on projection but must be straight from the side.
  20. Ryan your car might fit into 2F production sports. If its not on the list already (R33 GTst) then you could check the dimensions CAMS specify in the 2A regulations and apply to have the R33 added to the list pending production numbers etc. I didnt check to see if it is on the list already. You can find the reglations for category 2 cars here CAMS category 2 Alternatively you are going to have to do it as a sports sedan. Also remember the car needs to be completed before you organise a log book inspection. All regulations for the category you are applying for need to be meet. Emergency shut offs, extinguishers, window nets, blah blah. You cant just get someone out to look at the car and say yep it has a rollcage its log booked. You'd probably know already but at the bottom of this page there is a list of pre log book scruiteners. Best thing to do is contact one close to you and see what they have to say about the car and what they'd like to see done to it.
  21. Sweet. I did try to do it like a photo but it knocked me back. I'll try again tomorrow and forward the email to you as well mate.
  22. I have fitted up one of the high octane kits which a customer supplied me with. I'd rather do my own personally. A reasonable pump, moroso, peterson, barnes etc will set you back about $1200 delivered now. A new Peterson tank $450-800 Breather tank $150 Balancer with drive mandrel $800-900 Pump pulley $88 Belt $20 Sump $550-700 Heaps of people making brackets now days. I machine my own and normally sell them for $440 I think that's just under $4500 for the parts roughly. I use earls hose and fittings. I have a very good relationship with the guys there and only use their gear. Retail you can expect to spend about $4500-5500 for everything related to plumbing it up depending what size and type of fittings you use. If you can find someone who deals with earls or mscn ( motor sport connections) then chances are you can do it alot cheaper.
  23. Current log books are fine, however im told there is changes to minimum requirements for saftey cages depending on the nature of the event, some of which will be enforced log booked before or after. ( not sure how they intend on doing this but oh well) For example racing of various levels will require various types of intrusion bar. They have categorised different levels of racing and made a set of minimum rules for each level so to speak. Club racing will get away with single intrusion but any state or national meeting a X intrusion will be required etc. Any two person event (targa or rally etc) will require a full roof X (same as the old FIA regs) There is heap or categories and crap but I havent had time to go right through it yet. I think there is a few technical buletins floating around on the CAMS website refering to the new regs but I do have the 2012 PDF but I dont know how to post it. Tell me how and ill put it up, I have it as an email....
  24. I'd recommend the little integras to anyone. They are actually fairly quick cars. I did some laps in one last day boz ran. You'd have a ball in one Neil. Get both of them hired out and have an integra challenge!! John does spend alot of time and money maintaining them, if they need anything at all it gets done. I rekon they'd be better maintained than alot of race cars that we see getting around. They are far from regular circuit hacks that get run into the ground
