well you'd be best off getting a directional mike, because an omni-directional mikes pick up too much noise from the surrounding cabin (ie. engine noise), so your sound quality would be shit. The issue with the directional mike is that its gotta be pointed directly at your mouth, so there isnt many other places you can mount it other than up in the top corner...

Well basically, the phone talks to the PC via bluetooth. A USB bluetooth dongle for your pc costs about $60 from ebay (maybe less). When a call comes in, the sound automatically mutes, and the phone control screen appears. Your phone send the audio through the bluetooth to your laptop, and the sounds comes out the car speakers. You hook up a micorophone to to microphone port on your computer, and install the microphone where a normal car kit mic is... So effectively your phone can be in your pocket (like it was when you were in the car), and you can take a phone call over the car kit. The software for the phone control is integrated into the software i've been raving about: Centrafuse. It's relatively simple to set up too. The software can grab your contacts list and display them too, so you can dial from your car pc, instead of having to pull your phone out of your pocket Attached is a screen shot of the screen that you can use to make calls etc. Edit: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/High-Speed-Bluetoot...1QQcmdZViewItem USB Bluetooth - $15 delivered + maybe $20 for a mic, and you have a $35 bluetooth handsfree kit!

Cos the battery saves your last position when the computer is off. So when you turn the computer back on, it only takes 10 seconds or so to re-aquire. If it didnt have a battery, it would take 45 seconds EVERY time to aquire the satellites. The battery never goes dead cos the USB re-charges it. You wont ever have to change the battery. If the battery dies (which they EVENTUALLY do), it will just take 45 sec every time you start it up to aquire.

Also saw a yellow R33 S2 with 19"(?) impuls with mega dish on showground rd... Must have been 19's cos they have the bigger dish than the 18's

Yep I saw you wave back! Thanks man your looks great on the road too! _________________________________________ I just saw some guys in a nissan navara (?) with a skylinesautsralia.com sticker on the front window..

yep thats exactly what I did.. Centrafuse + Maps from Torrents + Holux GPS + Lilliput 7" Motorized screen = awesome! You dont need a 12v power supply for testing with a laptop too
-
Get the Holux USB GPS off Ebay - $85 I've got one and its awesome! 20 Channel receiver and 45sec cold start time! http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Holux-GR-213U-Water...1QQcmdZViewItem

Debateable... most likely slower.
-
Yep, thats exactly how i'd do it (in hindsight! ). I'll definitely be doing this when my hard drive eventually goes.
-
The only problem is having to spread you 10-20gb MP3 collection over 10-20 USB sticks - God knows how you would do that too, you would need powered usb hubs etc etc. It defeats the purpose of a decent carputer - having less than 20gb storage! You're better off buying an ipod and an auxilary cable for your HU I agree though with booting from a USB stick, and then having a USB HDD as your MP3 storage. At least that way its just a matter of copying the mp3's onto a new hdd when the disk crashes. You guys are all overestimating the fragility of the HDD's though. They WILL work for a long time before dying. Mine has been in for months, plus the laptop is 3 years old, and it's still going strong!! The laptop is sitting on the floor of my car too! I've got rock hard apexi coilovers too!

Super expensive compared the HDD tho... Its still $30 per GB!

Mis-matched Pads Front/rear
Primordial replied to Primordial's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Yeah I'm getting the RB74's through BDA http://www.brakedistributors.com.au/ The reason they're so cheap is I'm able to get them for trade, which is handy! Yeah I've heard that before about the fluid - I had Motul 5.1 in there for the last track day and it was good, although I had crap pads on there so the little fade that I had may have just been because of them. Do you know if the RBF600 is much more expensive than the 5.1? -- Edit: ignore that last question... I've just found it's just under twice the price http://www.uniqueautosports.com.au/priceli...elist_motul.htm Fair enough.. I might give it a go this time around! _________________________________ Anyway thanks heaps for the info DJR - Very helpful! -
Mis-matched Pads Front/rear
Primordial replied to Primordial's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
hmmm.. ok then... i might have to get RB74's for the back as well.. I might buy some and see how I go at the beginning of the day... If it's causing problems i'll swap them over. Well I've heard a few opinions that said that they are harsh for what they are. ie. not that good when it comes to track situations (heat wise), but still just as harsh on the rotors as a more high performace pad. -

Well I must be getting ripped off for the DS2500's then.. $245 for a front pair. I can get the RB74's for $120!! Screw paying twice the price for something that's surely not going to go twice the amount of time before overheating! -

Cool! Thanks for the reply. I'm getting a set of RB74's so I'll run them in the front, and the QFM's on the rear and see what happens! I'll post the result after the day (July 2nd) -
I am absolutely HANGING for this to be released.. it looks the bomb!!!
-
Yeah ditto on the hard drives.. I've got two of those 2.5" USB external hard drives and one of them died just recently. As I said previously, expect to have to replace the hard drive yearly I expect though that cheaper Flash memory based HDD's will be available in the next 5 years or so..

Cool cheers Steve! I'll tell them to make the payment reference "Primordial accom x 2" Their names are Matt and Jazz.

Hey guys, I've got a couple of friends who want to come down to spectate at Wakefield for the trackday. They were wondering if they would be able to stay at the villas also? Is this ok?

I'm @ A Loss What Wheels Do I Buy?
Primordial replied to MsG_ChRiS's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Yikes.. thats a little too close for comfort! They would touch under compression and deformation of the tyre under heavy cornering though wouldnt they? Do you hear scraping under heavy cornering at all? -
Yeah they are correct, The height/width were swapped around though... 32”x20” (extra large) on photo matte/glossy paper - $85 posted 50”x30” (Huuuge) on photo matte/glossy paper - $125 posted (you’ll have trouble finding a place to hang this)

Yes, he offered to personally sign the pictures too. I haven't discussed payment methods with him yet, although I dont see why direct bank deposit would be out of the question. IMO The only reason for paypal on the other sale is because they were all international customers, so therefore paypal is actually a cheaper option due to the bank fees involved with international wire transfers.
-
To be honest I dont know! I think the only other pics he's doing prints of at the moment are of the Pioneer NSX.. I do know that these prints are cheaper, simply because he got 250 printed! By comparison, the NSX 32 x 20" is on sale from him for $55 AUD + shipping. You can get the NSX prints, and cheap posters here: http://forums.dieselstation.com/index.php?showtopic=16764 This R34 shot is a single print (by special request from me!), so it's more expensive ($85 posted). If there are more people interested, he might be able to do them for less..

Hi guys, I'm getting some prints done of the image below through the guy who took the image - Easton Chang. If anyone is interested, please let me know and we may be able to work out a discount for multiple purchases. Keep in mind these are prints on photo type paper, they arent just normal paper posters. 18”x12” (bit larger than A3) on photo matte paper - $35 posted 32”x”20” (extra large) on photo matte/glossy paper - $85 posted 30”x50” (Huuuge) on photo matte/glossy paper - $125 posted (you’ll have trouble finding a place to hang this) Cheers.

yeah depends on the gain of antenna in the unit. I imagine that PDA GPS cards arent able to draw too much power so therefore may not have enough power to boost the antenna signal
