  1. I can't see why it wouldn't be legal, but putting a tow pack on a GT-R seems criminal... It'd be an expensive tow car too fuel and service costs wise. To add to the GT-R expense.. I would need a the next rated tow pack up to tow the GT-R behind the Fairmont =\ I only have the standard 1600kg pack, would need the 2300kg pack for an GT-R.
  2. Hah, Pretty much because I can see good reason in both points of view. I've love the lightness and cheapness of the S13 and there is something to be said for going along to a track day and being just .2 of a second off an M5 that's only a couple of years old, we all know it's a super heavy GT style car but it's expensive and it's got power so I got a buzz from that. At the same time he got in that M5 and cruised home like he'd been out for a Sunday drive, gotta appreciate that. On the other hand, I loved my GT-R but part of that was that I'd bought it modified and didn't have it quite long enough to ever have any major dramas with it, that and it was only mild tune 250awkw so not heaps should go wrong at that power. Sure I had to put some AFM's on it, common issue, and the parts cost for service items weren't awesome (because I wanted to treat it right). But the fun I had on the track tangling with much lesser powered WRX's coupled with driving it to work from time to time just to hear it scream down the on ramp was hard to match, I don't get that same feeling from the Silvia but it's a "dirty track car". At the same time, pulling into the pits, I thought, how the hell does a 2000 model WRX with only 160-170awkw keep up with my car on the straights. I've got 2 more cylinders, an extra turbo and this car new cost literally 3 times as much as the WRX. The answer of course is weight. My car wasn't that much more expensive than his at the time so it wasn't too bad and I did over take him so I at least felt justified in my GT-R ownership. It really is a tough one and when the time comes it will likely depend on what's around, what frame of mind I'm in and how much money I have to play with. No doubt the S14 option is much cheaper in basically every way, but It's not the sort of car I see myself taking for a weekend cruise so it should be cheaper as it'll be performing one less function for me. Some people might not get that but with the exception of the S15, I don't see Silvia's as great streeters, they're a bit small and a bit coarse. That's a personal thing though as I've taken my antics off the street now so I don't want something quite so raw for sunday cruising.
  3. Ego went out the door a long time ago, it's more a case of the $$. Like most of us, I'm not rich and I do my own work to keep costs down so the appeal of an S-Chassis is obvious, hence starting with one. Damn money...
  4. Won't be keeping this, as I mentioned. I also want to be able to drive it on the weekends occasionally and no offense to S13 lovers, but this car isn't good for much else besides thrashing on the track. Later model S-Chassis maybe but they're just not for me as a street car.
  5. I get ya, this should be an interesting turn in the discussion...
  6. I think the point is more so that in an lighter car you wont need 350rwkw to turn the same lap time as a GT-R with that much power and you'll have spent less money. As much as I hate it, those are the cold hard facts.
  7. I just need stack of cash then I can have a street GT-R and a track car as something else. You know you're killing me on the inside with your informed opinions and cavalier attitude lol
  8. so the answer for me then if I want an R is to bomb the cash into it lol
  9. lol I know mate I watched the clip, worth giving you a razz over though ='(
  10. Yeah cheap S14, I saw that on NS a while back for sale. Well someone should ask Marlin that question then Roy
  11. To be honest, an R33 GTS-T isn't really on the cards, I switched to my R33 GT-R because the GTS-T just didn't excite me enough, and it wasn't just a lack of power. That said, I also used to have the idea that RWD + tubo just meant constant dorfito but after owning the S13 and seeing first hand that even I can set it up for and drive it grip style that was a bt of a revelation. It'd be S14 or R33 GT-R, which comes down to cheaper track car that I'm unlikely to want to really drive on the street on the occasional weekend or a more expensive track car that I'd be happier driving around on the occasional weekend. It's the old brains vs emotion thing if you get me. I was pretty attached to my GT-R, sold it to retain my license and give myself some time to grow up and stop being a knob on the streets. I'm old enough for that now.
  12. ROFL Gold! Same, I don't like spending more than $10 on a haircut and prefer to get the missus to do it when possible, she won't let me shave it though, prolly coz I have dumbo ears. Roy was it you who put the 32 through the fence at Targa? If it was, did you wish the fronts would engage to pull you around the corner rather than letting you slide through it? Semi serious question...
  13. For the non GT-R fans among you, which it seems is like 99% of you, what is it that puts you off? Is it just a case of it costs too much to go "as" fast as another lighter car?
  14. rofl, I used to own one Roy and I didn't suffer from that affliction, maybe you just keep "interesting" company?
  15. Russ you're obviously happy with the lower cost and the lower weight of your platform. Are there reasons you would consider going GT-R?
  16. I joined team underdog when I bought this CA18 S13 I expected Baron or Snowy to chime in with some GT-R love... What I "want" is a GT-R that doesn't get caught by lesser powered cars and that doesn't cost 50% more to build
  17. Gah Russ you're killing me... for reference though, your car is stripped isn't it? His is still street trim? A/C stereo etc? Weight is clearly a big advantage.
  18. I suppose that's only fair, give you $50 and a slab lol
