No I don't mean actual budgets, I just mean what you were observing, in particular how each team does it. Was there anyone there that was basically a group of mates/not major sponsors doing well? Or are they really just there to turn laps and enjoy the experience? I can't see my 5-600hp (if ever completed) and shitful driving, no motorsport ABS/sequential etc, even being allowed to enter lol

I sold my dash/door cards so it'd have to be open for me, especially after cutting guards for 18x10s etc. Everything is for sale, I wouldn't say cheap.... Which car are you gonna take, I thought you were selling the S15 to me... cheap lol
-
I wasn't joking lol I am keen to hear about the differences you observed while there. Only one person I know local to me has done it and said they spent easy 15k to attend, came 3rd in clubsprint that year and hurt an expensive gearset in the process. I love the idea of attending, but have a real hard time justifying the cost - but have limited exposure to real costs.

Tell me more

How long are those sessions and if everything is going well how many laps could you realistically get in (hot)? Sounds like a very high dollar/lap ratio for all teams 0_0

We're on rainwater and I still filter it, full house filter, and then an additional one in the kitchen. Roofs are not clean, especially when you have a wood heater. Town water here tastes like chemicals to me.

The issue with that is safe parking I think hence he really needs to stick to 2 cars only. Maybe I'm in the minority, but I think he'll be much happier all round in a competent BMW that he can take to the track on occassion and have it not suck but excel at all the other stuff, the reality is we spend most of our time "driving" not racing. The 33 is beautiful and if the prices weren't bullshit these days I'd have this one happily, but I wouldn't be driving it for the school run.

For me? It basically didn't work at all, I don't think a 1.8L turbo car has anywhere near enough exhaust gas volume or velocity to create the scavenging effect needed. I ended up going a complicated breathing system, top and bottom of engine, into a baffled can vented to atmo with drain back and that got me sorted. We were very careful with placement of the valve/angle etc following all the guides, but the morosso system appears to be designed for older V8s given the manual/parts in the kit etc. Dose might have more luck as he has more displacement.
-
Do you want my morosso crank case evac kit parts to test if I can find them/haven't sold them? You might remember I tried the exhaust dump venturi stuff - with poor results. In my mind I had 2 kits and some new bits as a result.

Great info, thanks

Also raised mine when I went bump steer correction and sorted the anti-squat/roll centre etc. Much Improve.

That's exactly what happened to me, the car would oscillate uncontrollably, dangerous AF. It's gotta be part of a full package. I'll be starting from scratch with the Silvia given I will be using slicks or much wider R comps this time around.

I had similar issues with sway bar tuning and ended up backing them right off/swapping to stock bars from other cars etc.

R33 Rear Wheel Bearing Replacement
No Crust Racing replied to No Crust Racing's topic in Tutorials / DIY / FAQ
Yep it's the bed size that's the issue, bigger press just gives more room to work. I grabbed my 20t used for like $150 on FB I think. Rarely get anywhere near close to its load capacity but when I have to straighten the baffle from the fire place once a year the whole plate fits easily on the bed and can be flattened in a few goes. -

It'll be partly fused on there with rust and build up between the surfaces. I dont remember what press we used (look at the dates on the post) but I've got a 20t now and was advised you usually go 12-20 for DIY workshop stuff. Heat helps, but I usually go with soaking in and around the joining surfaces with penetrants then a bit more force than you think. Hit the hub around the bearing interference section with a hammer, a few sharp blows will help break it loose also. -
Nope, I'm still mic'ing bearings because I "had to be sure" and double check the machine shops work. That meant buying a mic and learning how to use it and associated tools lol Oh then there was the 12hrs or so I spent weight matching the piston/rod assemblies because I "had to be sure" and weighed them all and found up to 8g difference.... Could've stopped at 3g like the machine shop said for a street engine, but "had to be sure" and went to 1g.... Shoot me.
-
I should add, bad choice for a learning platform, FWD, 5cyl, Euro... not the easiest car to work on at all, it was like 10hrs to remove the entire front subframe with engine/box attached to get the engine out, I am dreading reinstall... I really should have bought an XR6T or something, shit even an NA one.

The bucket I picked up for $500 with multiple spun bearings so I could try my hand at an engine build and teach the kids. It's just a stock refresh with some added block mod shims between the liners for if someone wants to lean on it harder later. If it runs it'll cost me easy 5-6k in the end by the time I replace DMF/Clutch setup etc but could end up with a semi cool car to daily then swap/sell off for something else rinse/repeat as I'm sick of driving the 4wd daily. It's manual, turbo, bucket seats, nice electrics etc and running is hopefully worth more than it cost me. If it blows up on first start or I dont get it running, I will part it out, go back to Silvia and buy something else to daily (335i? 545i?). Anyway, learning lots, I think?
-
I'm just glad to see you using the car. I'm feeling slightly more motivated again, but wont get back to tub work until the XR5 engine is sealed to avoid contaminating it.
-
Oh and that led me to the 4-5yr gap we have today where the car is partially stripped, engine on the way, tons of money spent on parts sitting on shelves because I was going "refresh" the car "a little". Had I just been nicer to the car and sensibly favoured seat time over mods, I'd have 4-5 YEARS more driving experience/fun etc. To be fair the gap is also in part to moving out of town, having no time to work on the car, then getting into MTB which eats even more time... But it all started with trying to "win".
