Most definately a Daihatsu Midget II !!!!! After a few $'s you could push out a whopping 60rwkw's and drift all day long without even scuffing the tyres since it only weighs about 700kg with you in it ( 550kg normally ) Hahahaha.

Japsix, Thanks for those stats. I'll check mine now. Steve, That's an idea that's already crossed my mind DoughBoy, I saw quite a few people out at the Creek but would have liked to meet more / all. Nissky came out for a ride with me and he can attest to the fact that my turbo was a dog on the day, HOWEVER, over the weekend, I found that the gasket on the outlet side of the turbo was cracked and it looks like pressure was leaking out. I fixed it and drove the car down to get the front pipe & dump pipe fitted and then took the car out for a quick blat and the boost climbed to 22psi and lit up the rears ! Since I didn't have much time after that I put it back in the shed and I'll re-investigate this issue further. Maybe the problem ain't so bad after all
-
Not gunna stir up mountains of sh!t. I just want to fix my turbo problems and know what's going on for a change with regards to what I've got and what I need and what I have to do to get it and fit it. :uh-huh:
-
Yep that was me driving around the track swearing at my turbo the whole way ! I met you in the pits but I was in the garage with the drift monaro's ( my friends ) waaaaay down the other end.

I spoke to Garrett directly yesterday and they assure me that they CAN supply a GT2530 core assembly equal to that of HKS. So maybe I have the right core but using the R34 GT-T compressor and exhaust housings might be the problem. Yesterday out at the Creek the turbo was reaching 1.4bar but once the engine spooled over 6,500rpm the boost dropped below 1bar and by about 7,500rpm it was at about 0.85bar and the engine was screaming like an N/A engine. Is that along the lines of what anyone else is experiencing using a "real" GT2530 on an RB20DET ?
-
Well, I think I'm going to have to keep my eyes open for one of these "Genuine" HKS GT2530's or even better GT2535. I agree with paying a bit more to get a bit more but I HATE WAITING !!!

I've actually got footage of me sling-shotting past the 328GTS after turn 6 when his tyres started going off and he couldn't hold his line. AZENIS vs. PIRELLI ( AZENIS WINS ! ) -

I think that's why they invented Nitros Oxide. When you get a little board you push the button and fill your undies and that's enough to tied you over. If you think you're complacent with the performance now, wait until you've got the hang of the track and decide to chase down some arrogant tosser in a Ferrari -

Nissky, Don't worry if it does rain. I'll take you out and show you the way to get arond the track sideways How's the new hair dryer going ?? -
JimX, Cool. I'm sure your lines would be different from the standard pipes with banjo fittings but the spacer thing is interesting. How is Nissky going ? He got that new R34 GT-T turbo off me and the last I heard he was having a ball with it.

I'll be doing my rain dance tonight for sure ! -
JimX, Is the T04 laggy ? What do you have to do to fit it up ?

You'd be surprised just how much fun E/Creek is when it's wet. You just drop the speed and go to more sideways action and it's THE MOST FUN way to learn car control ! -
Pete / Fatz, Nah, Sorry, GCG took the T3/T4 back in exchange for the turbo they gave me. You shoulda grabbed that R34 GT-T turbo off me when you had the chance For everyone else, thanks, now at least I know not to get a GT2540 should I decide to change turbo's again. I'm going to go ahead with the dyno and see what the results are like. Franks, I think your idea is a good one in superimposing the 2 dyno maps ( once I've got the car sorted again ) to see exactly what's going on. I think it's that old scenario where you hear people rave about how good something is and then when you do it yourself you find the results are not as good as your overinflated expectations have become. I'll let the dyno tell the truth ! At least then I'll have a better idea of what I've actually got bolted to the side of my engine.
-
DoughBoy, I'm told that they are pre-assembled by Garrett but who really knows...... Me thinks I've been fudged !!
-
Well GCG gave me this turbo as a GT2530 so somthin ain't right. If I had a digi camera I'd take a pic of the ID plate that they put on it.
-
I'm told that the "cartridge" ( wheels pre-assembled in bearing housing ) are from Garrett.
-
DoughBoy, The Turbine and Compressor housings are both new R34 GT-T housings machined to suit as HKS Turbine housings were hard to find new. It just might be that they have something to do with the power decrease but Brett from GCG assured me that they were close enough to the HKS ones that the difference would be negligable.
-
Merli, Dunno. I was told that it's a Garrett GT2530 core as sold to HKS but I don't know if that's factual since GCG "COULD" simply stamp a plate with whatever they want it to read and rivet it to a core. I'm not saying they do but it is possible.
-
Steve, Just the normal stuff, GT-R Fuel Pump, NISMO Fuel Pressure Reg, Pod Filter, re-chipped ECU. I think I might have to try the new pipe between the AFM and the turbo as it could be a possible cause. Are you getting yours made for $100 ?
-
I hear ya ! Maybe I'm just used to that big push back in the seat and that's just not there any more. Only problem is a GT2835 PRO-S = $$$$$$$'s that I ain't got. There's still one last option which is getting GCG to change the bearing core from a GT2530 to a GT2540 for under $2k now that the hard work's been done.
-
I was only making 200rwkw with the T3/T4 ( Very Conservative Dyno so about 215rwkw on most ) but I knew that I needed injectors which I now have. The T3/T4 came in mid-range and nailed you to the seat up until the 8k rev cut. The GT2530 comes in low and pushes up but just doesn't plant you and hold you. It really feels like a drift turbo but still it just feels under powered. I just want to drive it without problems for 1 measly year
-
This is true but that's also what I wanted to avoid I don't want to have to put vernia cam gears etc, etc on to make the 200rwkw's that I was making. Oh well, GCG say that will make 200+rwkw's so here's hoping after the dyno tune it dose cause if it doesn't I'll probably get the sh!ts and take the car back to standard then sell off all the modified parts and the car itself and buy a Daihatsu Midget 2
-
Not yet but you can feel it by just driving it. It's that obvious !
-
Well, For those of you out there who remember, I was having turbo surging problems with a T3/T4 GCG High Flowed turbo on my RB20. Well after heaps of F***ing around I've now got a GT2530 fitted. Yes the surging is gone but so too has the power. Where the T3/T4 would start making power and then pin you to your seat until rev cut, the GT2530 at 1.2bar just doesn't have the same "nailed to your seat" grunt. I'm posting this for 2 reasons. 1. So people can learn from my stupidity ( happens a lot ). 2. Has anyone out there fitted a GT2535 or GT2540 to an RB20 and what are your opinions ?
