  1. Check out the regulations. If your car complies to a degree, you may not have to do everything http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/registration/veh...ards/index.html search for the applicable issues, it's typically messy pdf's, but it's in there somewhere good luck !
  2. Yeah, I'll look at guard work last. I want to avoid removing the plastic inner guards and or rolling if I can. Having no inner guards might cause the car to rust underneath and mud/ moisture flicking up into electricals etc. Your fitment looks great , that's why I ended up going 9.5 all round too. I'm pretty sure my car doesn't sit as low too and with the extra 5mm back might just tuck in. I've also got some 3mm spacers coming, which I'll fit first, re-assess before I start grinding those UCA's back. cheers.
  3. No lip, they're flat Trouble is, there aren't any bolt on 3 or 5mm. They are all floating and have 77mm or bigger ID's. Designed to fit all cars / universal. I wish someone would make them model specific. Even hub rings won't work with a 3 or 5mm, hub rings are tapered and thicker. I guess you just visually centre them. I might accurately mark the mount of my wheels and stick the spacers to the wheels, then have them balanced. I'm also going to grind away my Upper Control Arms a bit for extra clearance, depending on how tight it is, I might not need the spacers. 18 9.5 +30 hits on full lock on R33 GTS-T , 5mm spacer clears UCA with about 2-3mm I'm thinking 3mm spacer and a shave. I see why most people don't like them though.
  4. Anyone know if the JustJap JJR 5mm floating spacers are 66.1mm ID, or do they need spigot rings too ?
  5. Have a look at Rota P45-R's 9.5 inch have awesome dish / curl on spokes Good colour choices too.
  6. Got some 5mm universal spacers with 81mm holes, but hubs are 65mm. Do I throw them away or get bushes from somewhere. cheers
  7. yeah the fronts will have 235's on them, quite stretched on a 9.5 rim. The rims are Rota P45-R's. What's the go with agro camber? Do you replace the stock UCA's with adjustable ones? cheers
  8. I've got 5mm spacers but they stick out too far for my liking. About 10mm outside the guards with the spacers on..
  9. I'm inclined to make my new rims fit by taking off a small section off the stiffening flange on the upper control arms. Apparently the clearance between the rim and the UCA need only be 2-3mm on full lock according to others I've come across. These arms look very strong to me and can afford a little shave off the backs. Most the stress goes through the axles, I'm thinking the UCA's only cop mild longitudinal forces. Am I making sense. Anyone else done this ? Any advice here much appreciated.
  10. Just bought a set of 18 9.5 +30 all round. Fronts hit on full lock on the back web of the UCA. Fitted a 5mm spacer, now have 3mm clearance with the car still jacked up. Currently have 7mm clearance with 17 8.5 +35's. Don't really want to use the spacers, plus sticks out a little too far for my liking. I'm thinking of grinding away a section of the stiffening web on the upper control arm. Probably only needs 5mm deep x 15mm long Q's Does the rim get closer to the UCA when the car is in motion as the suspension compresses ? And, am I risking too much with grinding ? I'm assuming these arms are over engineered 50 % My main dilemma is: If I go back a size on the rim to (8.5) , the spokes lose the aggressive dish I'm after. Thoughts please. cheers
  11. Damn right ! 764 bhp in a street GTS-T. 0 - 100 would be interesting , but image 100 - 200 ! Better get some big ass brakes in there Dave.
  12. I'll take the 5's. pm sent
  13. car R33 GTS-T Currently have about 10- 12 mm between my front rim and the UCA with 17 x 8.5 + 35 I'm planning on a set of 18 x 9.5 + 30 which in theory should be about 3 - 5 mm clearance. Does this gap open and close whilst the vehicle is traveling or is it fixed ? Does this also limit my camber ? Am I going too tight here? cheers
  14. Hey, When you get your Swift, make sure you go out and get your double shot decaf latte' with a twist if lemon. Comparing a Swift to a GTS-T, someone should wash your mouth out with soap
  15. Hasn't been completely ruined, it's just elevated the question of quality. LSX had new rims that didn't last 6 months. Yes it's a 1700 kg R35 and capable of huge wheel loads. ROTA ARE ADVERTISING THEIR NEW RANGE AS RACE WHEELS ! Given safety is paramount, this is an area where they could really end up in trouble. If someone or several people die due to wheel failure and can be proven to be a manufacture fault, and directly responsible for the incident, they could end up in a monumental law suit, however track disclaimers would probably save them. Now Rota are on the up and up, clearly sales are increasing world wide. I'm still considering some and have been following these discussions closely, not only in Australia, they're everywhere, and constantly recurring. Yes there are heaps of Rotas around, and more and more people are enjoying amateur motorsport, but the bottom line is, these discussions WILL eventually get back to Rota headquarters and they'd want to bloody well discuss it. Look at this positivley. This thread hasn't been unkind to Rota, it's just questioning their limitations. Something EVERYONE should be aware of before they hit the track.
  16. Ever thought of putting your engine into another car ? That's what I might do in the end if I can't get decent traction. Buy a blown / thrashed GTR and stick the 3.0 into it, plus all the other goodies that'll fit.
  17. I need to get quotes to send my wheels & tyres from Sydney to the Hunter. Can anyone recommend good / suitable freight companies .. cheers
  18. I'm just going off photos, but the spokes look the same dimensions where they join the rim. Also I've seen more photos of broken 5 spokers. As for the Nismos, they're HEAPS dearer, even used. Never mind trying to get GTS-T offsets. Also they don't have the same deep concave the Rotas do in 9.5 inch.
  19. The Grids were advertised to me as one of the stronger rims. Popular on drift cars. Probably less strain on them drifting as opposed to a GTR cornering hard on fast track times. Awesome looking rim, love the concave on them.
  20. Never the less, after all that's been said, I still intend to get a set of Rota P-45R, which are similar to the Grid Drifts but with only 5 spokes, which means they'll be weaker. I'm only running an R33 GTS-T , with sports suspension and street tyres. I'm not interested in super fast lap times, just a bit of adrenaline every now and then. So in my case with 350 kg less, less speed, heat, inertia and traction, I'd expect the Rotas to hold together. Last but not least, there's no way in hell my wife will let me spend $3k on rims alone. I'd get kicked in the nuts so hard I wouldn't be able to drive anymore anyway.
  21. Come on people ! Get rid of those Rays and get some real wheels. Make an offer
  22. Don't know about other cast rims. Not many of them disclose the material they use in detail. I know though that A356.2 is a high tensile version of standard A356.0 which is achieved by a critical tempering process. The solidification curve during cooling has virtually no margin for error. It is one of the most common aluminium alloys and is used in aviation framing, car chassis, even missiles. Yes it is the entry level alloy for structural castings and has more flex capacity than the forged alloys. I guess it comes down to economics in the end. I wonder how good the operators and supervisors are in the Rota factory with the solidification process. Also, given the heat obviously given off on track situations which are bound to arise with this product, I'm surprised Rota don't do any testing with high and low temperatures as well as impact and strain.
