  1. I still don't know about the strongest in the country bit. The squat was an unusual one for me at the time. I was afraid to go heavier than 235kg so I just kept adding a rep or two (no spotter and just plain chicken hence also not going deeper than 90deg angle on the legs). The bar used to bend lots (looked cool) and my traps had a fairly long standing deep purple bruise line from that excersise for a long time. I did have a number of people spectate and tell me I was insane when I was doing the lifts at the gym. I though they were just being nice and providing encouragement, appart from the blokes who tried to prevent me from even trying to lift it. I didn't realise the bar weighed that much either? Still, my training in no way resembled the gym-goer. Mine is 3-5 rep with some variation to things like static holds /partials and very rarely nervous system & plyometric training with things like really light jump squats. I was in and out of the gym in 15min. The time mostly made up of having a chat to someone and loading and unloading weights. Back then I would do a leg training once a week /fortnight at most 3 sets in total (usually 2 or even 1), not of each motion ,just total. Usually I would not do excercises that did the same muscles in the same week. Would do nothing at all (including cardio) for 3 days after a lifting day. I would measure my lift improvements and if I was flat on progress usually vary the rest period. I found the more I lifted the longer the optimum rest periods became. This wound up being about a month. I did a fair bit of reading at the library in the sport science section at the uni before I started the program I ended up using. I train measuring strength /performance and then modify / examine variables. Diet (are you eating enough to grow the extra muscle to lift?). Rest intervals (ensuring training intervals are long enough for fully recovery + gain, too long a period is not something to worry about). Training intensity ( did you overtrain during the session in terms of nervous or muscle fatigue). Sounds really involved but, it's a super slack program.
  2. This was about 7 yrs ago ,I did "free weight" squat for the 235kg . Thats the weight actually on the bar. It was one of those olympic style bars (I have no idea what they weigh, maybe 6kg?). As I said, only down to 90 deg, so not deep enough to count as some record. I'm pretty sure I could have gotten a couple of reps off at that weight going full range tho'. I went quite deep on the machines like hack squat (pictured) and leg press because you have less to worry about. Screw up a squat ( I never had a spotter) and you can pay for it for a long time. There's no falling over backwards/forwards on the leg press Record wise you got the wrong web link by the way ; http://www.capopowerlifting.com.au/index.p...d&Itemid=34 Even at that weight doing it full range, wouldn't have made me one of the strongest squatters in the country. I would be classed as 90kg division. The sub 67.5kg class record dude kicks my ass at 285kg. On the world stage of records it's not even remotely good even for a sub 75kg girl. http://www.powerliftingwatch.com/records/165-women I have always trained for strength improvement only and I don't waste my time in the gym when I go with 'overtraining' programs, in fact some months I would be lucky to get a total of 1 minute of total time lifting in a month (which is optimimum for that month for maximum gains) . At the moment I am having a go at upper body. Doing one arm rows with dumbels is the favorite at the minute. So far I am doing 85kg dumbel for 3-5reps each side . Great compound excersise. Everything has to get strong along the way. Grip especially, I don't use straps, so you find just holding the weight is a great workout in itself. This is another weight I recently have copped flack about lifting so I thought mentioning it might get some extra LOL's
  3. Yes they have special infra red scanners built into thier pencils.
  4. Because I did the weight? Ok, maybe I'm reasonably strong Mind you I was doing the wimps version (to 90deg only, so not real deep). At the time I did about 520kg on the hack squat machine, 640kgs on the leg press, 480kg on donkey calf machine thing. Got more of a workout loading/unloading plates. Wasn't doing anything to speak of on the upper body at all. At the time it was about trying to get into some sprinting , which went nowhere really, probably beers fault. Photo of me from back in the day, looking constipated and wearing the most fashionable clothes and hair cut possible. A relatively light 440kg on the hack squat. A few minutes previous to the photo a well meaning huge body builder bloke (took the photo) tried to warn me that I had put too much weight on the device and I might hurt myself. I proceeded to tell him it was only a warmup and that there was no real danger if it was too heavy as you can't get it off the rack if it is. He hung around to see if I would get squashed but, when that didn't happen he proceeded to ask me what sort of gear I was taking. I told him I drank beer....good gear that stuff That should be good for some more LOL's
  5. I think I posted this before but, you won't get better prices on Whey and other things in bulk here; http://www.professionalwhey.com/catalog/ They buy the stuff straight from Fontera, so it's the highest quality. They also supply the natural flavouring additives so you can DIY your own recipe of powered flavour (a big down side to commersial stuff). All you really need for a post workout recovery drink is the WPI and some dextrose (go get some brewers dextrose at $2kg). Everything else you are just paying for the words " Anabol --- Mega --- Ripped --- etc." and usually this costs another $50kg. Maybe grab some Cenovis zinc plus from Coles for $6 (100 tabs) . Some additional zinc in the diet does boost the testosterone levels for weight trainers. The proven science behind this is old. The Cenovis brand has the proven mixture ratios of zinc / magnesium and B6 ( importantly not in sulfate forms). Funny how the testosterone boosters all have zinc in them isn't it? It's the only part that has any effect. Either take this or get some extra zinc into your diet, there is info on the web about how much to take, usually linked to various weight training / sports study. The reccomended two tabs on the Cenovis bottle a day work for me.
  6. Lots of people are not in the gym to get stronger (most). They don't plan strength increases, they are just fixated on the mirror . The girl would lift more than most simply because she is training for strength so is aiming at something you can measure rather than something you can't. That girl wouldn't be on anything either. 150kg is a great effort for her size/weight (small) but, it's nothing special. I'm not that strong but in the past my best Squat is 235kg on the bar (was about 84kg at that time, I'm now about 102kg) for an easy 10 reps. It was pretty cruisy but, being 6'3 and having long legs, balance was the hard bit for me. The squat is a rather tricky move with any kind of weight above body weight. There are other moves that are a much more forgiving at high weight and will give you the same muscle development. Ironically the squat is an excellent excersise for helping build stabilising strength (better muscle control) for things like weak knees (a common excuse for avoiding them). Kept at sensible weights and without going deep you can do things like squats with eyes closed.
  7. Some good advice from a GTR owner. On GTR's the 'bolt on boy' approach can see your car go slower and be less enjoyable to drive. Planning out what you want to improve carefully will see you get the best results. Always consider carefully the 'why' before handing over of cash. And it does take some time to filter out the good advice from the ordinary on these forums. It's worth it though.
  8. No. what you beleive is obviously not the same as the facts. There isn't an on the spot court hearing to listen to arguements from you and the police over what constitutes 'reasonable'. They are police. They are given powers to carry out investigation. You get your chance to defend yourself if you get charged with a crime. Asking or not they are not going to have to tell you why until they decide to charge you with something. They are the ones asking you for compliance. Asking for badge numbers will mean they are going to assume you are going to try and make thier life more difficult and waste thier time answering your complaint. I can tell you who is going to have the worse time of that confrontation. Taking an antagonising approach like this will see you get burnt. You are wasting time, yours, thiers and as a result tax payers money.
  9. That particular car has plenty of 'similar performance mods' but, is actually a 'replica' meaning it's not built by mines. It has plenty of extra modified bits that aren't the same as the mines car.Although quick, It's slower than the mines car. have a look at the vid link I posted and you will see the stock airbox. they even point at it for you. There have been some back to back tests on the stock air box that prove it's not a power restriction.
  10. You weren't co-operative. In fact from your own description you acted suspiciously, like someone who is trying to hide something. Even though it was caused by assuming police can't search a car without owner permission. They didn't do anything wrong. Next time don't tell police what they can and can't do without knowing you are absolutely right. You weren't right this time so just take the lesson and move on.
  11. Sorry to hear about the sticker. Unfortunately the lesson to learn here is 'comply'. Being a smart arse wastes police time, that pisses them off and you look like you have something to hide. Police can search cars, pull them to bits, drive them and plenty of other things all under thier authority. If you don't know what you are talking about just shut up in front of them and go along with it politely. You will then be able to examine any breach of behaviour with an official complaint. Certainly know your rights but, really what do you have to hide? If the car is road legal you get a better reaction being co-operative. Most of these sob stories I hear are as a result of some dumb ass mate telling you that you have some sort of bogus right against police searches on your car or you have been watching too many US police dramas on TV.
  12. Plenty, Including some of the hotter factory specials like the Nismo versions of the GTR of various flavours Z tune , R tune etc.. The mines R34GTR has stock airbox/ BOV, a lazy 600+ HP and notorious response. Someone can try and tell people it doesn't sound good but, they will be seen as being faggy for saying so. Why pay money for Pods when they are a step backwards in power on a GTR without a cold air box and feed? Even with a CAI forking out over $500 to set it up nets you at best 2hp or so. It's what you call a good waste of money. $500 is better spent on something else.
  13. As already mentioned, there are plenty of places to spend money on a GTR. There are some good factory bits on it already so you avoid needless cost and backwards stepping by leaving them in place. Things like the factory airbox (it's not a power restriction, so no gains changing it and keeps police happy) and the factory BOV's. The suspension on a stock R33 GTR isn't that bad and only a mild drop in height and mild spring rate increases are necessary for road use. There are some good suspension threads about setting one up for whatever you like but, factory stock they are an excellent handling car. A good tip for you to keep the motor alive is to keep the factory turbo's at 12psi and avoid the temptation to blast them to 1bar/14.7psi. They die. And when they do they may like to give one of the piston bores some of the ceramic fragments from the exploding turbine. It's engine rebuild time. Easy to avoid however. Up front, dropping all the fluids and changing them is a smart idea. I wager about 80% of the car owners on this forum have never changed diff or gear oil without there being a pre-exsisting issue. It's worth doing and according to factory reccomendations, just like engine oil.
  14. get a cheap rear tyre that has a taller profile and as soft a compound as you can find. This allows for some sidewall flex (you will be running lower tyre pressures at the drags for this) and the stickier rubber compound will get you more grip.
  15. Just think, as a policeman you could have given her double demerits and a double fine for dangerous driving. The double points may have been enough to remove her licence completely as well. I think dangerous driving is a 6 pointer normally? so that would make it 12 and goodnight. The double fines handed out mean less pressure to increase your taxes. So you have more money in the pocket thanks to less stupid people on the road wasting your brakes and less tax increases.
  16. MT's are the one for drags. The circuit ones are designed to run more tyre pressure so are generally no better than normal road tyres. The softer compounds found on either mean they last far less kms than a road tyre for the strip. Driving on the road with some of the circuit style semi's around is actually really good but, it costs you to do it. They grip better, so offer improved safety and on road enjoyment.
  17. I like 'Stupid Tax' Taxing the stupid is the best way to raise money for all the additional costs the taxpayer incurs throughout the year because of the Stupid person. Stupid People need to be at least partially self funded is my view. Double fines help raise important revenue for things like increased medical funding for hospitals to treat the people eating the small desicant packages in electrical goods and paying for the printed warning on the packages that say "do not eat". You see unlike you and me the Stupid persons brain has trouble with understanding plainly stated warnings like road signs. For example when a Stupid person sees a speed limit sign, the Stupid person's brain starts to become inflamed causing pain and discomfort. The Stupid person reacts by suddenly saying stupid things, popping any collar on an article of clothing they or someone nearby may be wearing and ,if handy, eating any nearby desicant packet or item with 'do not eat' written on it. But, in most motor vehicles manufacturers have not been using desicant packets for many years (choking a stuid person is the best way to remove the seizure and it was included for drivers as a complimentary feature in the past as a part of first aid kits to shut down Stupid Person passengers in such an event). As a result, the stupid person then makes gurgling noises and loses further control of their already limited thinking capacity. Sometimes causing them to drive in a manner considered illegal and or dangerous. Also, for this reason gently removing the stupid peoples licences via double points is one humane way of getting them into a safer and less costly lifestyle for the tax payer. I love revenue raising speed cameras, traffic light cameras and double fines. Naturally stupid people don't because they aren't able to understand road rules and laws and due to brain malfunctions can't control a motor vehicle or open a new DVD player in a safe way. So lets support the governments move to have them become more self funded and get them off the road. It's for the good of all
  18. Karl. Looks like what you want is something that says 'look at me' or 'pull my car over officer'. Dog sneezing and squeaker toy noises that aftermarket BOV's make are some of the most obnoxious noises made by anything man made. There are no aftermarket BOV's that are upgrades of the factory GTR ones. Be thankful that a factory jap performance car can be ultra fast without them.
  19. Not cop magnets. Although , if you rice them up like any car you can make it draw more unwanted attention. If you drive sensibly, cops leave you alone. I've had skylines for many years and can't say I've had a single issue with lots of kms of travel in them (more than most as I use them for work cars).
  20. It's true that you will get some slaps from the more experienced guys if you advocate 'street racing'. As per your posts in Hooons thread. Eg; your comment street racing is the only sport you can take pride in these days, track days in perfect conditions are for geeks that dont know how to drive. You get only a small amount of tollerence for being younger and less experienced with high performance cars but, plenty of support for listening to good advice and lots of the guys on here have done heaps for noobs starting out to help them get up and running for track days including donating time and materials. However, when it comes to the ricer / boy racers these people have nothing but, punter/ordinary driver skill as they have never invested in performance training days and certainly never had a track day to hone skills. Yet they think somehow some freak driver gene has been passed down to them and because they impress thier peers (who also can't drive for crackers). I had a conversation with a young friend of the family with much the same attitude as many young blokes including yourself (perhaps?) that went along the lines of him asserting that he had 'mad skillz' and could drive his modded gtst within 99% of it's abillity. He certainly bashed it around historically and came off the road plenty of times but, I challenged him that I could get into his car without experience in it and make him look like a brown hatted old man driver on legal track environment. I said that he was " a shit driver because he's never had a real driving lesson in his life". He bet me $50 I was wrong.Long story short I took his money. Most of the grief is out of concern to see you live to enjoy the car and a good chunk is to avoid the negative press that the low skill driver + skyline = crash gets the rest of us. Track days are awesome and the first time you get to wring the neck of your car like you never have it's the best feeling. You are pushing the car on a road specifically designed to drive as hard as you can. This can be either the drag strip or the circuit, even if the street was legal and you took the people off it, it's a miserable place to try and get the most out of the car. Take your car to the track and I guarentee you will agree. Having said all this, I'm only going off your comments that may have caused the grief. Not suggesting that this is who you are or that you can't change your veiws given half a chance
  21. You need to honest about the training motivation / desire. Going to the gym to weight train the way people say means spending hours every week in time going to /from and training at a gym. Not to mention the addtional cost. Maybe thats too much cost or time for you right now in your life. It's all relative of course but, getting what you want (4kg muscle gain ) doesn't mean even doing the gym thing. For most punters like yourself you can get away with say 1 minute of total excersise movements in 1 month (60seconds per month) and put on plenty of muscle and perhaps more importantly strength. Eating is important, but so is rest. I am testing a program out on a bunch of different aged/sized / body type/ training experience blokes. It's basically a good 'lazy blokes' workout. There is a young guy who is one of those just over 50kgs stick like people who can eat like there is no tomorrow and put no weight on, he's put on 3kgs of muscle in a month (a bit over 1 minute of time commitment total). I am up about 10kgs in 6months, 101kgs from 91kgs. Every single trainer has had similar results with super low commitment, most have skipped several workouts as well. One experienced weight trainer almost needed counselling to help him cope with being sent home seconds after walking in the door of the gym once the workout was done. None of this is spectacular or remarkable in the world of weight training in terms of body weight or strength, it's not going to set the world of bodybuilding on fire and the collected science behind it's not new. However, for the people who sit around saying my work, kids, pub... insert other life pursuit is more important that the gym time, it's a nice thing to know about and have a go at. Because the time commitment is so low it's super easy to turn it into a habit and from the gains you get you then find positive motivation to up the intensity and maybe start seeing value in going to the gym and doing things to burn fat which there is no low commitment way around. Sorry that's a bit of a huge rant.
  22. The tablet is complete in it's ratio with Zinc , magnesium and B6. so no additional required. 1 tab before bed time is enough of a boost for most people if you are getting RDI. There are studies around the supplimentation and it's effectiveness with weight trainers and even in the early days of research with NFL gridiron players. In that study an increase of 30% of testostorone was observed on average and corresponding increases in strength. This is at an elite level of sports. These days most high level athletes ensure there is enough zinc for the regime of training. However the average punter is usually un-aware of the benificial gains if they are not getting the additional zinc from diet. Do some googling around the studies if you like. Also ensure that you don't oversuppliment zinc as it has effects on absorbtion of things like iron and therefore is rather bad for you. hope that helps
  23. Magazine reviews are for people who have limited knowledge and experience and provide an 'opinion' to read about. Ask yourself if you really need to read them and then maybe don't buy the magazine or just use the review pages to start your winter fireplace or line the budgy cage.
  24. Since this is a suppliment thingo I thought I might add what is the greenline or nengun of suppliment sites; www.professionalwhey.com.au I haven't found a cheaper place to source WPI. They get the stuff from the only source for quality WPI in the southern hemisphere Fontera's factory in NZ. Hope that helps. Another tip for those who might be looking a tribulus and a variety of other so-called natural hormone boosters; Most of these snake oils have zinc, manganese and B6 added. These are actually the ONLY active ingredients. There is plenty of data around these nutrients and theraputic ratios. When you weight train and as you get older you need more zinc for hormone production boost. Cenovis Zinc plus is about $6 for 100 tablets from woolies. Works a treat.
