  1. If anyone's interested, there is a different brand that does the same thing as Plastidip - http://www.spraymyride.com.au/ (I know a few people have used it on wheels and interior trim bits) Website is very basic, but the Facebook page has some pics of the car roof/wheels that have been done. Apparently it's about $20 a can (not sure what Plastidip is currently, around $30?). I'm going to grab one for some simple touch ups on my motorbike, so I'll see how it goes. This is run by a a mate I work with (and one of his friends). It's his car that has the roof and wheels sprayed in the facebook pics.
  2. I don't mind mandating safety clothing, but not high vis, how do you dye leather to be high vis? is just having a strip of reflective material enough, or do they want 100% dayglo? I have no ideas where a front plate would go on my bike, there is no surface that would take one. I note there is no mention of better training for car drivers, the ones that never check what's around them. You think training is a joke in Vic, when I got my licence in the UK it was worse (and probably still is). If you got your car licence before a certain date, you could just geton a 125 with L plates and ride off, having sat no written or practical test. I had a mate who could of done this, even though he didn't know which lever was the brake and which was the clutch, he sensibly did the 1 day intro course. I did my licence as a 4 day course, that you could only do if you were over 21 (us 22 year olds were obviously waaayyy more mature then a 20 year old back then). I did the 1 day course for the basics, then rode about 10 times on a mates 100 cc, did a 4 day course on a 500, passed my test and then had an unrestricted licence, no P plates, no power restrictions, just ride what I wanted. Looking back it sounds dangeraous as f...
  3. Yes, I know it's a week after the event, but I finally got round to going through my pics and sticking some up. I'm a slack bastard. So sue me. The full range is here, Import Monster DECA Motorkhana pics, but as there are about 190 of them, and I know some people have short attention spans, here's a few. Click pics below for bigger versions. How to correctly park in the stop garage - How to go through a garage... ...sideways... Going through sideways may mean your car then needs a cone-ectomy - and how to just say sod it and take the scenic route - Then there are those that like to blaze their own trail and sort free-form the whole thing - A few more that I liked...
  4. Managed to get my pics online - http://www.pbase.com/willstark/decaaug11 I'll stick a thread up tomorrow with some of my favourites. Now I've just to edit the vids from Ash's car.
  5. Damn, I would put up my photos from the day, but my hosting site (pbase) appears to be down. I'll try tomorrow, I've only got 196 to put online
  6. Another quick animation, this time of Aaron's slight garage miss....
  7. Miss? As in you're not in any? Which car, there can't be many I missed (working my way through about 198 that I'll put online, out of about 700).
  8. I can confirm that the option was investigated, the uphill bit was fine, but the downhill was bloody slow....
  9. Where was the grass slide? Long Wang? I have a series of photos of somebody taking the scenic route past the garage. Unfortunately for Jett, I not only have a picture of his impromptu hill climb event, I have a series of 9 pictures. I feel an animation may be produced later. I had a great day, fantastically run as always!
  10. Seems to have been more photographers than drivers at Sandown today.... Full gallery is at http://www.pbase.com/willstark/impreza_wrx_club__sandown_10_july_2011 My selection from today (very little post-processing, crop and levels on some of them). A couple of animations (sorry whoever the driver is).... Click pics for a bigger version...
  11. Quite often see the VW Transporter van around Williamstown (it seems to live at the local station) Its a Transporter 4Motion, whatever the kick arse engine they can get type. It's white, with black roof rack, but looks to clean and undamaged to be a tradies van Lights are behind one of the blacked out rear windows. I only know it's a cop van as I saw it going down the freeway qith the lights on.
  12. meh, I never look at the date of expiry on the sticker, I just wait until Vocroads sends me the new one, then pay. Of course that doesn't work if the idioots at vicroads haven't transfered your car into your name when you bought it. Apparently there was something they couldn't read on the form, so it goes into the too hard basket, and they don't tell anyone, not you or the previous owner. So if you buy a car and the y transfer it OK, you hear nothing, if they don't transfer it, you hear nothing. Brilliant. As I don't drive it much, I never thought about the rego, until I got pulled over (only 5 min from home), It's a nice big fine, but I was 10 months out of date, so it was pretty much the same as the years rego I'd missed. I just had to pay for a RWC to get new plates, which I got done as part of the sevice the car was booked in for. The broker we bought the car through sorted it all out for us (relocated car home, went to Vicroads etc), so I didn't have to do much.
  13. I'm sure he's got nothing to do with the trouble itself (and hope I didn't give that impression), I was just wondering if he still worked the Melbourne Supercar Club or not (I'm presuming it's the same company, how many supercar clubs could there be?)
  14. Haven't seen him for a while, but is James with this mob? http://theage.drive.com.au/motor-news/big-...00528-wibx.html
  15. I can't remember, I'd have to dig through the car receipts. Plus it was over 3 years ago, so he's probably gone up a bit, and it was the discounted price for WRX Club members. It definitely was more expensive that your tint Proffesor type joint, it was either $300 or $400 (I know, I know, pretty big margin of error there ), I think the base price at the time was around $350 for a rex club member, then I had the special sunroof film done as well. Probably best just to phone him, or send him a PM on the Rex forums. P.S. - He even gave me lift to and from the local train station as I dropped my car off before work.
  16. I had my 200SX done by Rob Tait over 3 years ago, excellent work. He also has a special sunroof film (more metalised than the normal stuff) so the car doesn't turn into an oven. He's a member of the Rex club, and a lot of the WRX guys have used him, he is a WRX club advertiser, and has a forum area http://www.wrx.com.au/forum/viewforum.php?f=37. He had to do my rear window with 3 pieces of film, as with the slope and rear access he couldn't get one piece in there. I wouldn't have known if he hadn't told me, you can't see the join. He takes pride in his work, and has been doing it for a long time, and doing it properly. There are some before and after shots of hsi work on my 200SX here - http://www.wrx.com.au/forum/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=48263
  17. That's the one I was thinking of, it's the corner of Boundary Road and Crockford street (I just looked on Google Maps), as sloutch said, right opposite the &eleven servo.
  18. Do you mean car washes where you do it yourself, or ones where you sit in a cafe and watch others work? If you want to do it yourself, there's one on City Road, on the right side as you head towards Port Melbourne, not sure what it's called. It has the usual booths with pressure washers etc, and also one of the drive in automatic washes. I think it's around Ingles st intersection, but not sure. If you want to sip coffee while others clean, Carrerra car Wash on Montague street is where I go (http://www.carreracarwash.com.au/), It's on the left as you head away from City Road down Montague St. There's also Blue Planet on City Road, Just before you get to the Kingsway overpass heading away from Clarendon street. I used them a few times, but found Carrera to be better. (http://www.handcarwash.com.au/) There's also a carwash at the BP servo (corner Clarendon St and City Rd), which I've never used, even though I live next door to it. It was upgraded within the past couple of years, had completely new working installed.
  19. I Love the way people talk about how expensive the UK is, then focus on inner London. Therer's a reason why most of the UK avoid London like it's still got the plague, it's not worth the money (plus it's full of Londoners, who mostly refuse to even consider that any other place in the world could match up to London). Yep, petrol costs a fair bit. It was a pound a litre when I left in 2000 ($2.50 at the echange rate then), and about 86 pence a litre back in May last year (just under$2.00 at the time). TV licence doesn't just apply to TVs, also VCR/PVR etc, anything with a receiver. You used to be able to get a cheaper Black and White TV licence, which my dad tried to buy when we moved from Germany back to the UK (about 1990), and the old cheapskate was just going to use the B&W TV (Much to the disgust of the entitre family) since we were going to be moving in another 6 months anway. The TV licence dude came round 2 days after we's moved in to see if we had a licence, and sell us one if we didn't. Dad asks for a B&W one, bloke points out we have a VCR attached, thus we have to have a colour licence since we can record in colour and take the tape else where to watch the playback on a monitor. Was funny to watch the disbelief on dads face, at least it made him get a colour TV. You do get a lot more channels for your pay TV money over there though, I was looking through the listing for something to watch at my sisters place, it took so long I had to start again looking at the next timeslot. Probably still not much more worth watching, just the same rubbish spread even thinner. Brits come to Aus and want to stay, Aussies go to the UK, but mostly come home again. That should tell you all you need to know.
  20. The traffic cops in the UK have had the automatic plate recognition cameras (ANPR system) for a while, they constantly scan anf check plates, then alert the cops if you're not up to date with Road Tax (Rego), Insurance or MOT (yearly Roadworthy), all of which are required to legally drive in the UK. I'm suprise such a device hasn't been put into use over here before, the cameras would pay for themselves in no time.
  21. Or they slow you down 'cos you argue. I was giving directions to my partner a few years ago, and she was talking about having the cones on the left or the right of the car, but when I tried giving instructions like that ("to the left") she went to the left of the cone (i.e. cone on right side of car = going to the left of the cone). As for the long wang, I've never even come close to hitting a pole or a tree, I have managed to get lift off oversteer coming over the top of the hill and end up having a disagreement with the (aptly named) crash barriers. (in a Rex, not the 200SX)
  22. I haven't got any recent stuff really, I've been completely slack and not gone to any events. All my car related stuff is here http://www.pbase.com/willstark/cars, has some track stuff, drag day, older DECAs and drift 4 dummies. I know what you mean about organising Calendars, at the Rex club I run the monthly photo competitions (run until Sept), then we just pick the other months from the rest. We just have one pic per moth though, so only need 12 plus cover. I guess you're doing the same as the last calendar with a montage of pics per month? If you don't get enough recent stuff and want any of my pics, I can send you the high res versions.
  23. In one of those long nose trucks, you can't see shat right in front of you. If the car was sideways, I doubt he saw it. As for the noise, those trucks aren't quiet, if he was at higher revs, and it was an impact like that one in the tunnel, he might not have heard it. The noise of tyres squealing should have been audible though, it's not a normal noise. As for the truck labouring to push the car, I very much doubt it, you could throw another few tonnes in the back and it wouldn't notice, why would it notice a small tin can attached to the front? I learnt to drive a heavy rigid (loaded to 16 tonne), and that's scary the first time you're out with other traffic. Car drivers don't appreciate how different it is until they drive one. I always thought I gave trucks enough space (I wish some of them would do the same), turns out they need more. The truck driver should have been using his mirrors a lot for situational awareness, and then wondered where the car had gone when he couldn't see it.

Fairing is the body work that protects the rider from the wind (round engine, up side, over instruments etc), Guards are th bits over the wheels. I use wing mirrors, that's what I always called them, I suppose because I always called the fenders/guards 'wings', and that's where the mirrors started out before more modern cars moved them to the door. (probably just a UK thing)
