No we shouldn't ban EVERYTHING AND NEVER DRIVE AGAIN. fkn retard. It is a RESTRICTION that is in discussion. Quote all the statistics you want as we all know 80% of statistics are made up on the spot. Obviously the lacklustre standard of education and training in regards to driving that we currently have doesn't work. Of course I would prefer that to NOT be the case and it is also obvious this latest outcry is a result of that tool putting his 180 into a tree. There is a VERY clear cut case for NOT allowing new drivers to get directly into a high performance vehicle. If you read my posts you would also see that I think the restrictions should extend to 6CYL FAMILY CARS too. They should be allowed to drive them for work purposes if needed, but not allowed to own them. Another thought is that P platers should have to pass an advanced driving course of some sorts before being allowed OFF their P's and able to drive a real car. I'm not even going to bother to respond anymore as all I get back is tanty throwing P platers who dribble shit and think they are the world (some of you excluded, s2k for example).

You've spent more than 10k to get where? a mildly modded RB20? you need a goal and to plan how to spend the next 10k wisely! I have a loooooooooooooong term plan to eventually put a VH41 in the 32 when I get bored with the 30, there was a guy over east selling a VH41 with crossmember and mounts to suit 32.. I tried to buy the Xmember and mounts off him but no sale Oh, why inlet manifold? the stock will flow enough for about 365rwkw. I wouldn't change it unless you're in my boat where you need bonnet and pipework clearance with a large high mount. And I think stock 25t injectors flow enough for a little over 300rwhp..

I have the full fast compliment at my home PC somewhere, I'll see if I can dig it out.

I'm a big believer in learning to drive in an old shitbox RWD, something like a Datsun, Corolla or Gemini.
-
Get a Bosch 044 and mount it intank. I paid $215 delivered for mine.
-
Of course it was in the rain, you'd need a heap of hp or some really bald tyres to do it in the dry
-
Exactly.
-
If you had the magna full lock while going straight (and I've done this many times in the various FWD's I've owned), then you obviously still had your foot into it. For an INEXPERIENCED driver, not knowing how to countersteer effectively is what makes RWD's dangerous as opposed to just not going round the corner.
-
That's pushing 10k right there.

Yeah a clear goal is something that a lot of people forget or don't even think about. Without a clear goal ahead everything can go down the drain pretty quickly!

Eugene, we all acknowledge that fact BUT not every P plater is like you. Therefore the government has to cater for ALL P platers. More training, less powerful cars for a longer period is just an attempt to control something that is in essence uncontrollable. It still has to be done though.

I'm not talking about bush and gravel roads.. most people that grew up around that stuff were driving in paddack bashers a long time before they got their license. My AWD statement is in regards to sealed roads and highways. They'll tend to hold on a lot longer than a RWD under the same conditions so that when you do come unstuck, it's generally at a much higher speed
-
Oh and my take on AWD's is that you just tend to be going a whole lot faster when sh~t goes pearshaped!

bi-annual pits is ridiculous (not with the money and time it currently costs to go over the pits) and I think mod laws should be left out of this thread as it is a completely different topic. I do agree however that any power to weight laws should be based on driveline format. A 200hp FWD can be a lot more dangerous than a 200hp RWD but, it depends on the level of experience and the situation. It would be safer for a 200hp FWD inexperienced driver in the wet than an inexperienced driver in a 200hp RWD car in the wet. Understeer is safer for the inexperienced driver.

Mark, you're advocating harsher penalties and for people to just accept their time. I have no problem with that. I however am advocating slight restrictions on new drivers (which is actually quite sensible) and more education/training. How am I "alienating" the motorcar? I love cars, a lot of people love cars and nearly all of us rely on cars day to day. They are going to be around for quite some time. What we need to do is start properly educating and training all the new drivers that come through. We should probably look at some sort of training for existing drivers but that is much harder and longer to implement. For the now, put the restrictions on the new drivers that come through and also teach them more/better.

Depending on placement of multinova, my detector can pick them up from around 300m. Obviously if it is just round a bend it won't pick it up 300m away. Has also saved me from laser even though you have to be bloody quick with a laser as you have almost no time to react from when the laser hits you to when they get a reading.

Changing attitudes is a lot harder for the government to do than applying new laws in an attempt to counteract what they perceive as a blight on society. Yes, attitudes need to change. Yes, the government needs to do different things. But, the things the government does needs to be able to applied to everybody. I agree that attitude and maturity play a big part in all of this but they are very difficult things to change and maturity is not something you can force on people. Therefore it needs to be approached in a broad way which means targetting new drivers. There are a lot of older drivers out there that are either just plain stupid or have no clue but the powers that be have to start somewhere. That somewhere is with all NEW drivers.

All that stuff is the same for any hipo build, it's not exclusive to RB30s. The point was, if "building" an engine, look at building a 30. You can built a budget 30 and come in well under 2k if you wanted to. If you have higher aspirations (like I did), then you should be looking at all those other things too. My 30 cost just over 2k to build (I did get a good deal on a block/forged piston/head setup), so it's not just a stocker build. As soon as I built it I had to go spend about another 3k on injectors, z32 afm and a tune. Already had a good clutch, 25 box was already on the cards (that was a 2.5k excercise what with custom tailshafts etc). Oh and then there's the 1.6k for a GT35R, $500 for a TiAl gate, then we get onto exhaust manifold and exhaust fabrication I have to do. Intake manifold that has to be made. Just picked up a full 32R cooler piping setup which should make things easier. BASICALLY, you need a goal to work towards. My goal is 400rwhp (with lots of lowdown drivability) with headroom for more and I believe my setup will do it easily. If you just want a bit more *poke*, then a cheap standard 30 build is leagues ahead of 20. A similar "cheap" setup would be to drop a standard 25 and box in there and leave it at that. If you want lots of power then you gotta be prepared to spend the coin where it's needed!

+1 for german licensing standards. I believe it costs in the region of $1000 and some intensive training before they let you anywhere near the Autobahn.
-
It really depends on how they plan to implement the new laws if they do bring them in. Whether they decide to apply them retroactively to existing P platers or not, you'll just have to live with it or maybe apply for a special exemption.
-
N/A 4cyls? not many of those around that would spank a turbo6 or v8. And responsibly? didn't you get hoon lawed?
-
My point is, there should be STEPPING STONES, as opposed to letting a fresh driver jump in something hipo'd. Another personal belief is that we should make EVERY new driver ride a scooter for the first 12 months. That will certainly give them an appreciation for the large masses of fast moving metal they share the road with. Driver education needs to be approached in a smart, sensible manner. The first step of which is to limit NEW drivers to no hipo'd cars as to NOT do so is just a recipe for disaster. YES, it's not a cure but at least it's a start. Couple it with more extensive driver training and we might actually get somewhere!

Learn to drive AND spend your P's in an appropriate car. I learnt to drive in a Mondeo and spent most of my P's driving a Datsun Stanza. Getting your license and getting straight into one of the cars I mentioned above is ludicrous. Here's an example, one of my best mates had to pull over and render first aid to some L plater and her dad on Tonkin Hwy after she rolled his work ute (purely due to inexperience, car in front tapped brakes, she grabbed lots of anchors & swerved out of control, clipped a kerb and flipped into a culvert). Totally inappropriate vehicle to be learning to drive in. Dad is in hospital with suspected broken neck and shoulder.
-
Even though I had a v8 and also daily drove a 911 while on my P's, I agree with the power ban. Kids have a lot more access to fast cars nowadays and seem to not learn to drive in bunkies but jump straight to a light, tail happy, turbo import OR big, fat, horribly handling, ADM v8s. Personally, I think P platers should ONLY be allowed to drive 4cyl N/A's with less than 100kW. All these 6cyl family cars are just as dangerous as the imports or fat v8s.

lol yes, RB30DET. When we say 30, we are talking about either a 25/30 or a 26/30. This isn't CLT.COM
