Well I'm from a bit further North but think I can fit that discription for the most part. NSW is home now.

Know that feeling. I bot a Mines ECU. If you look around you can find one for a couple hundred.

There are good deals out there if you look. I bot a '95 R33 GTR V-spec for $25K from a guy would couldn't afford it after buying it from a dealer for $35k 4 month previously. 60ish k's and box stock (except exhaust). Find a very good mechanic who knows GTR's and make sure he goes over any car before you get serious. They can be very expensive to maintain and you want to make sure you know what you are getting.

Which Coilovers Would You Choose?
tjandriesen replied to PSI_GTSII's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
So how do Ohlins like these fit into the mix? http://translate.google.com/translate?u=ht...Flanguage_tools Obviously not cheap but also coilovers. And aren't Nismo R-Spec coilovers made by Ohlin? -
Give me a break. A real Mexican would put your sorry asses under a table in no time. Margarita are for girls Pacho and Coronas are for pretty boys from Cal-i-for-ni-a. (me thinks I'm stirring up some sh*t and I'll pay the price in tequila shots)

Where To Mount An Oil Cooler?
tjandriesen replied to tjandriesen's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I had Trent & Sam at Northern Beaches Performance mounting mine. It was a JJR 21 row cooler. They ended up mounting it on the driver side in the front bar behind the turn light. About half of the light mount is a vent back into the engine compartment so in normal conditions it gets direct airflow. They also modified the light mount so that when I went to the track I could take the light out and the total vent area would flow through the cooler. They had to shortern the light housing a bit as it extended back too far to clear the cooler when in. I also had a filter relocation kit and it is now easily accessable in the engine compartment. Pics of all below. On Wednesday I had it out for a track day and the oil temp never exceeded 90. Works great. -
Tyres Size => Speedo Error
tjandriesen replied to tjandriesen's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Using the frist calculator going from 245/45/17's (stock size) to 255/40/17 is a 2.5% difference. -
I noticed they didn't mention jeans either way. Might be safe to avoid but I'm not sure

I know that changing the diameter of my tyres will result in an error in my speedo reading. I'm not sure what the "original" GTR tyre size was but I'm going to a 255/40/17. Anyone know how much "adjustment" i need to figure into the speedo?

One or both of my AFM's are shot so I've been looking around for replacements. Everyone seems to have Z32s but I'm not keen to get a new ECU to support them at this point. I called Lincorp to check out nissan replacements but they quoted me $620 each which seems really steep given you can buy the Z32s for $300 give or take. Anyone have ideas on where I could pick some up at a more reasonable cost? Would I be asking for trouble buying used ones from someone looking to upgrade?

Unless you are doing the work yourself the pricy part of an oil cooler is getting it installed. I'm running a 19 row from Just Jap and it cost a fair bit to get it put in. Awesome job and I'll post up pics in the DIY thread. I'm running a stock (GTR) oil pump and had it out on the track for the first time Wed. It oil temp was barely over street driving levels.

Circuit Club - Anyone Been To Their Track Days?
tjandriesen replied to tjandriesen's topic in New South Wales
EC was a great time despite the weather. Glad to see the other guys represent SAU with some good times as I clearly looked better sitting in the pit than out on the track. Two minor offs and slow times but for a first time I can't complain. I was running old street tires (new rubber this weeknd) and has some serious traction problems even when it dried out. Had a great time never the less and have the bug to keep getting back out. I suspect my wife might expect me to be hang around the 16th after going to DECA but I might try to give it a go. What is Oran Park like compared to EC? -
Was great. You were sure rocking in the Silvia. Yes Adam - I can see that coming Of course now I need new tires given how slippery I was. The good news (cost wise) is it was clear the limiting factor was not the car but the driver.

I'm running an Apexi on my GTR. Box off - pod filter adaper (a 4 inch Ali pipe) bolts onto the AFM and the filters onto it. Easy to do. I get a decent amount of intake noise. Can't tell you I could feel any HP difference. I kinds doubt switching from one brand to another makes much difference, unless one doesn't fliter very well and you don't want junk going into the intake. Sure wouldn't be the best bang for the buck performance wise. There is an issue with sucking in hot air versus and airbox. Ironic to see most who are looking for perfromance to then add an air box of some sort.

Bad news for me. Looks like one or both of the AFM's on my GTR are stuffed (confirm by hooking up to diagnostic software). I've heard there are several options and was looking for suggestions. 1) replace with same 2) replace with Z32 (not sure the benefits of this over stock but $800 or so) 3) Get a fuel mapping ECU and don't run AFM's ($$$ but prehaps a good step for down the road) Engine is currently pretty lightly modified (intake, cat back) and I won't be doing much for a while. I haven't really found much good info via search and was looking for suggestions...

Look - it is possible he can get that if he waits long enough, though a $30 something price might get it sold a lot sooner. The people in here know the market better than most and I'd bet the average SAUer would buy a car $5K less than the average skyline buyer. Think of the R33 GTR's that are sitting on the lots on Parramatta Rd for $35-40K and are getting sold while you can buy much, much better R33 GTR sub $30 if you take your time and buy from guys on here. (I don't know R34 prices that well but you get my point). I do think it is important that Andru is clear and honest to any potential buyer about what damage has been done to the car in the past. It could simply be that he made the accidents "bigger" for dramatic effect in want to post something good. If it was really damaged more and he's trying to cover that up - that wouldn't be a good thing.

This has got to be one of the funest legal things you can do. Went to the Circuit Club track day out at Eastern Creek. I've been pumping a few buck into my car (which I bot basically stock) based on a lot of the good info I've found in this forum. So far this has been brakes parts and an external oil cooler. Suspension is on the way. While I want to have that on board for today the timing just didn't work out. Unfortunately, as all you Sydneysdier might note it had been raining night last night. On arrival, the track was very, very wet. Just what I needed as a first timer - and even slicker surface. I went to sign in only to find out I had been put in the A group (the fastest). I guess they assume a GTR should be there. I suggested they slip me down to the bottom of the field which they did. Glad of that. After the drivers meeting, they had all the car get out on the track and do several slow laps to try to dry things out. Amazing as it might seem, I was able to spin out (at a really slow speed) just after turn 3 and was off into the grass. Great way to start. Several things because obvious at this point: A) my tires were severly in need to replacement B) despite my impression of how well balanced a skyline was supposed to be - mine wasn't (probably referring to 1 above) C) this isn't Playstation Being the smart and self realistic guy I am - I immediately availed myself of one of the instructors for my first track session. He was great. Break here, accelerate here, point for that apex cone, get your foot off the clutch quicker.....7 laps worth of good advice. He hopped out and then I ran a couple by myself after that. As the day went on the track got dryer I gain more confidence. Second session I found the speed limited down the front straight (by the 4th I was pissed off it wouldn't let me break 200). I slowly got better around the turns and braked more agressively. By the end of the day I was still a long way from fast but it was becoming really obvious where I was making mistakes and where I could make up time. My tire issues was really more obvious as well as going around most corners I was feeling that I was on the edge of oversteer and the rear came around a few times though I got ahold of it quickly. A couple of my after the fact thoughts... If you haven't done it - do it. Don't worry about being fast - just make sure you let faster cars pass. Its not about horsepower to begin with - it's about staying hooked up. I thought about what everyone has told me on here about being smooth and tried to to that. If there are instructors - use them. Best decision I made all day because for the rest of the day I knew exactly what to focus on. Thanks to a lot of people on SAU for good advice and thanks to the guys at Northern Beaches Performance for all the good work they have done on my car. Can't wait to get good tires and the SK suspension bits and give it another go.
