  1. Just because someone gets over the whole 'modification' bizzo, doesn't mean they impose upon themsleves a lifetime of boring motoring. IMO, I don't know what I'd rather do, housework, or drive a toyota Echo/Corolla/Camry. They are as boring as batsh*t. A WRX on the other hand, or an SS commodore, XR6T, BMW 325/330 or something like that.. A number of good cars out there on the market that are great fun to drive without the ususal performance import nonsense.. I've had my GT-T off the road for three months and I'm now kicking myself for not buying a 325 E46, but I know I'll get the R34 taxi back and I'll love it more than ever... Still, I'd never subject myself to an echo/getz/camry/rolla/mazda 2/3 or anything of the sorts.. If I wanted to drive sh*t I'd bolt a steering wheel onto my thunderbox...
  2. Unless you're Alain Prost!
  3. 1) Nice work Kimi!! 2) WTF FISI?!?!?!?!?!?! Where the hell did that come from? a bit of magic from the old Spa master?? Congrats buddy, you just saved your career, fine fine drive!!!! 3) RBR, WHY OH WHY! You could've gone nice and conservative with Webber, that might have been the WDC right there, better work hard right till season's end lads... 4) Can't wait to see those silly wheel covers go... 5) I love Spa. 6) I love Eau Rouge. 7) Nice drive by Sebvet to get 3rd, nice nice drive, might have saved his WDC pursuit there..
  4. 5 till 8, in summer, with no air con... I would've died to have worked on the mines, but no, had to be a farmer's son lol... A janitor aside, farming by far one of the most shocking jobs going around... Hence why I moved to Perth!
  5. As Bubs said (Although maybe not SUPER responsive, just 'rather' responsive would suffice! ).. Although, I know I'm being vauge, but between 400 and 500.. Preferably closer to 400, but I'm assuming that is rather dependant on which direction I go in terms of turbos... I just don't want a lumpy, undrivable, peaky little b@st@rd... Another thing I said at the start of the thread that it wasn't so much a matter of HOW much power but HOW my engine makes that power. So in a nut shell, with displacement increase, low-mount is basically out of the question? Thanks guys, appreciating the feedback very much!
  6. I think what was against them is that not only was it hot, but it is a slow'ish street circuit.. Watch the RBR's fly at Spa Francochamps... I wonder how they will go in Abu Dhabi... Quite a high speed track will suit the RBR's but you'd think the weather would suit the Brawns... We shall see in due time I suppose.. I reckon you could write down Suzuka and Spa as being definate strong points for the RBR's tho...
  7. Not going to retain my manifold. I'll be going aftermarket.. Cost aside, I can't see any merit in retaining my stock unit... From what I've read going aftermarket can improve response anywhere from 200 or 4 or even 5 hundred rpm.. So for what I'm trying it do, is low-mount simply impossible?? I was hoping that I could get an aftermarket low-mount manifold (either off the shelf or made up), and then go for a 3037 and have it externally gated.. It is true that a 3037 is the largest possible turbo than can be low-mounted on a skyline??
  8. oi bubba, that turbo you're running on the dirty30, is it low of high mount?? As I said earlier, I'd dearly love to keep it low mount, which is why I was looking at an externally gated HKS 3037... What's your opinion on that one?
  9. Yeah I got it on PS3 too, by far the best boxing game I've ever played! My boxer is now greatest of all time, I was light heavy weight and went up and smashed the bigger guys into pulp, my boxer now has an average stat ability of 90, so he's very good... I agree, graphics are awesome! With training, I've only mastered the maize bag, open sparring and stay on your feet. The others are just plain impossible...
  10. Whoa I just noticed this MAJOR typo.. I meant 25/28 or 25/30... My bad...
  11. I reckon this testing ban is bollocks... It really really is, and now what has unfolded with Massa/Bourdias/Piquet is that drivers, other that current ones in race seats, are for the most part, all out at sea when behind an F1 machine... I think F1 is loosing far more than it is gaining for a testing ban...
  12. Dirt Garage (Nice bloke! ) - http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Di...age-m23582.html ViPEC mega-thread - http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Pl...ipec&st=740
  13. Cheers for the input lads! Still, not too sure which way to go in terms of turbos.. What are you running bubba?? Single? Twins? That is really the major factor, what to bolt up to a 15/18 or 15/30 setup...
  14. That is exactly my goal... But with discplacement increase, be it 28 or 30 or whatever.. What would be the BEST turbo to match with the increased displacement in order to attain said goals? That is what I'm most confused about.
  15. Not dismissing the 30 option at all bubs.. Just that I was under the impression that the 30 bottom end would require a fair bit of work.. Plus the Tomei kit is billet, but all options are open dude! Soz if I sounded out of order, or dismissive or something... :-)
  16. It was a tale of one thing after another... If anything I wanted to go to RB26 crank, rods and forged pistons... But yeah, didn't happen.. @sexy. Just making it easier for people to give advice, I've got a clear sense of direction but not sure how to get there. :-)
  17. G'day all.. Just for a quick run down I drive a 1998 R34 GT-T.. Now recently I've had some work done to my car, I've finally upgraded my clutch (Heavy single Xtreme) and I've now got an ECU (ViPEC).. However, when I had this work done it was discovered that I had a far bit of lateral movement in my crank, about 5mm of north-south movement, the case was that the thustbearings were shot and I ended up having to get a replacement RB25 crank (Polished and machined, was only about $200). I also had some cams installed, but due to some god almighty collection of @rse-ups.. I ended up having to replace 2/3 valves, all my springs and some cleaning up had to be done... So I bit the bullet and I've gone for performance springs and 260/260 9.15mm Tomei Poncams (Type B). Basically my head is now in fine condition for what future plans I have.. Now, the issue.. I've always been in favour of displacement increase in the RB engines.. Yes stock capacity is fine and YES the tomei 2.8 kit is rather exy, however, to achieve my dream built I'm quite happy to part with the money. So, what follows? I've been thinking turbos to match such a set-up.. My primary concern is that I want my car to be driveable, responsive and to have easy/useable power through most the rev range, as I consider peak/top end power, to be very much a secondary concern. I'm in favour of something low mount, I just like the idea of not being outrageous and I really want to keep the car as inconspicuous as possible. I was thinking a 3037 low mount and if nessicary, I'd have it externally gated in order to handle the extra boot from the 2.8 litre capacity. I've been told that this turbo will not suffice and that it will basically be a bottleneck in my system (In which case, a HKS 3040 would be better, or even a T04), would this actually be the case? Is a low-mount configuration totally out of the question with a 2.8 setup??? If I was so keen to stay low-mount, could I possibly take a note from TWOOGLE and go for twin GTRS's, or is that total overkill, with a combined boost/power output of potentially 800PS??? Was also considering going for aftermarket intake and exhaust manifolds, on the exhaust side, either HKS or 6 boost, depending on availability (in which case, I'd probably need a HKS dump for the new turbo/s). Would probably go for a GReddy intake manifold, it has been done on an RB25 and it does wonders for cleaning up the engine bay and removing a plethora of annoying and performance reducing piping... Between doing BOTH in the intake and exhaust, I'm again hoping to achieve a responsive turbo/engine setup, as I've heard that BOTH of these upgrades can recoup as much as 200/300/400RPM of boost response apiece, which is exactly what I want.. Also I would have to address the fueling obviously, aftermarket rail and 600cc (or 750cc injectors?) would go in, I've already got a NISMO fuel pump... Is there anything else I'd need to seriously consider?? I'd be more than happy to even have the engine held back until I could afford gearbox/drivetrain upgrades.. I've been told that the stock stuff will take 450BHP, again, is this in fact true?? Basically, I'm not concerned about how MUCH power I make, but HOW my car makes the power... Which is why, I'm a huge fan of the 2.8 kit, with billet crank. Would be nice to have it going to 8k RPM! Oh, and yes, I've got aftermarket coilovers and rear traction bars and camber arms.. I will be looking for either R34 GTR brakes of Brembo F50's as the dollar keeps imporving against the yen. But yes, I've address handling, if anything, just braking to go, and again yes, I run on good rubber. Toyo's. Pleas please please, any informed/well thought out information, input, opinions are very welcome.. I'm just looking out for ideas and notes from people that have 'been there and done that'. I'm not the full bottle on this but I've read tonnes of stuff both on SAU and from import mags, please don't be condecending, but if your views differ from my vision, please, I want to hear it, but back it up with facts/examples/logic. As I, and many others, come on here to learn about our cars, and I'm still keen to learn, especially with such plans on the horizon.. Thanks very much. Let's hear it! Ta. Mark.
  18. Minardi 1999, partnering, Marc Gene was it?? Maybe Gaston Mazzacane??? So long ago now.. Remember Badoer was sooo painfully close to scoring at the Nurburgring in 1999, 5th place before his Ford customer engine expired. I believe Johnny Herbert won that one...
  19. Doh! Indeed they do, completely forgot about the lifters. What he said!
  20. I've got the TYPE A (aka stage 1) Poncams: ECR33 Series 2 (RB25DET) - Duration: IN, EX 256 Lift: IN,EX 8.5mm Lift is same as stock but there is a bit more duration which gives you a bit more breathing/grunt across most of the rev range. Not too sure what stock is, but I had to get another set for my R34 and I ended up getting 260's instead, which is what you'd call stage 2 (or type B).
  21. PM sent mate.. I've just a cam installation.. Either way, the rocker has to come off, and you've got to get the cams reshimmed, even if you are swapping stock cams for stock cams.. I've got some mild type A cams for sale if you're keen. As said though, refer to your PM.
  22. Lucky Michael and Kimi from Tifosi racing weren't there to pick up the pieces!
  23. Sigh, if only we could be back in the 1930's... Spare the rod spoil the....
  24. PS I'm with Brad and Mike! In, like flynn!
  25. Anything cracking for tonight lads??
