  1. check all your clamps are tight and you dont have a leak anywhere.
  2. hey mate, i cut mine, its a soft alloy, so its really easy to do with a hacksaw. then simply file back to a smooth/square finish, and paint the whole thing. rowdy. p.s. there are plenty of lines getting around with barely restrained ignitor packs- even some of the show cars at superlap! every little detiail in the engine bay polished and cleaned, and a grubby old ignitor pack floating around on top of the coils.
  3. its basically a real prick of a position to get to, in between the firewall and the rear of the motor. persistence is your friend. i ended up taking my bonnet off to get over the area more ergonomically if i remember right, i did it ages ago...
  4. pretty sure thats called boost leak buddy... and thats not efficient!
  5. lol some people have to drive foulcans and bommodors to make us import owners look good did anyone see that article by mark skaife on the sunday night program? he travelled over seas to germany, studied theyre roads system, theyre driver education system and new cars... he found that chiefly, what was lacking in australia is education of young drivers, followed by the roads they drive on and the cars they drive. interesting points where: in germany your parents arent alowed to teach you! you have to have professional lessons! this way your parents bad habitts arent being passed on all young drivers must be able to pass an advanced driver training course before attaining a licence government grants to buy new cars are helping put young people in newer cars driver awareness and road law adherance in germany is orders of magnitude greater than here and it was cool to see the vs calais pulled up a full ten metres later than the VE bommodore wagon
  6. Hey guys, so i bought a TA22 celica, a 1974model, on a whim last week, because ive always thought they look damn tough, and always thought they'd go pretty well with a newer motor in them. i just looked them up on ebay to see what theyre going for, and there was one with a heap of spare parts, half an hours drive away, with a reasonable body that had little rust for a thousand bucks. bam, bought. got it home on friday night at like 10pm and took these pics today i think its allright anyway. a little rust here and there, looks reasonable. so i'll endeavour to put up pics along the way, im going to try and fix 'er up a bit with the view of driving it daily. plan so far (very early and vague plan) fix up the body, get the 1.6 and auto tranny in it running well enough for a roadworthy, then get it registered and swap in a modern turbo motor and manual transmission. i have a spare rb20 in the shed, so thats an option, but a four cylinder would be a thousand times easier to mount. do you guys have any suggestions? i dont want big horsepower, anything from the last 20 years in stock trim is more than enough for this mini beast, as it only weighs 800kg's. something cheap as well. and where do you find parts for older cars? ive been keeping a keen eye on ebay, but is there a better place to look? cheers guys, Rowdy.
  7. i remember going to the manufacturing expo in melbourne during my apprenticeship a few years ago. everything was cnc. plasma cutters, mills, drills, lathes, HPW cutters, anything that did anything was cnc... and it was all way over my head. im a maintenance fitter, but i like to mess around with my own projects in my free time. i only know how to use manual machinery, though ive had some very good results with them. i learnt on old colchesters, they didnt even have a DRO, but thats what im comfortable on now. ive used a heap of diferent lathes, including cheapo chinese models, and ive always found the colchester to be quite capable and definaetly my favourite, while the chinese were my least favourite. only thing is theyre belt driven, so you cant put a massive cut on. but ive done up to 4mm without any slippage. im currently looking at second hand quality stuff as im not so keen on the cheaper asian units.
  8. "smell that? mmm, 2stroke." looks like a handful hah ha
  9. looks fantastic mate, definaetly a worthwhile project
  10. and how many fitters. maybe we could have a rumble at the end of the month lol +1 fitter
  11. lol at least your an honest hack i had to do a bit of welding at work the other day, seems no boilermakers answer theyre phone at 4am lol

  13. above link "we do not want to punish all young drivers for the stupidity of some." get stuffed, you allready are.
  14. awesome thanks man, i'll look into it. this is true, its the same with bikes. how hard you plant the foot, turn the wrist etc. but some people are naturaly good, others are completely gumby and need practice. even a gumby person in the dry would probably be allright with an rb20 in the dry but in the wet? what about fugged tyres? unfortunaetly the rules have to pander to the lowest common denominator hah ha my mate got done in his grandmas pulsar overtaking 5 cars in a 90 zone doing 153kmph by a chopper. car impouned, licence lost for a week for every k he was going! and 1000's woth in fines. he needed to be off the road though, ive seen him with a cheeseburger and phone in one hand, coke and a smoke in the other, steering around a roundabout with his knees...
  15. shit hot, i'll be there with some mates. lol at super lap one of my mates lost his shit mid-sentance (serious conversation with whiteline rep) when he saw the drifters come on track "blah blah bla-OH MY GOD, THEYRE DRIFTING!" hah ha he's never gonna live that one down.
  16. hah ha ha im going to bring my rodeo hah ha if my skyline isnt back together by then. lol i took it to heathcoate and entered it there because my skyline wasnt ready, but we got rained out so i didnt get to run was cool having the numbers on it though, got a lot of wierd looks it has a pod filter so i think i will probably make 200+ kwatw ... or not maybe the speed dimples all over the car will help as well... ...also or not
  17. your right of course, if the same resources and money were spent on fully licenced drivers there would be a reduction in total crashes in the short term. but if we educate p platers, they will eventualy be the fully licenced drivers, and will carry that education with them for the rest of theyre lives, leading to fewer overall crashes in the future, and forever more. the best way to stop crashes is by educating people! and the ones that need educating are the ones without experience! smarter people=less dumb shit accidents. restricting power, although important, speed limiters, less passengers, these are all knee jerk reactions, bandaind fixes that take choice from people and personaly i hate that. being responsible is about making the right choices, and learning from the wrong ones, and we cant do that if there are no choices to make. rowdy.
  18. hey i try to get on with everyone on here, i dont do the rounds of internet forums looking for someone to get agro at. to many people do that already, and i certainly dont want sau to end up like that. but i see where your coming from now, sorry i thought you were just taking a cheap shot at jews. i hear them all the time. i think its one of those things where you can take a horse to water but you cant make it drink. you just have to give people the best opportunities. and perhaps a minimum amount of hours clocked with a driving instructor (harder to forge) is the key here. these should be subsidised so as not to encumber lower income families, though. my girlfriend was the same, she wouldnt drive anywhere and i had to wait until i got my full licence to help her get her hours up in the car. im happy driving with her now because i taught her 100 of the 120 hours and were gonna do one of those advanced driver training courses. anyone know of a good one in vic south?
  19. because its over representation in the statistics. p platers are more likely to crash, full stop. once the 13% of p platers on the road cause 13% of crashes the scapegoating will stop, and authorities will be forced to focus on the driving community as a whole. its how we achieve this goal that is important. what is the chief reason young people crash? theyre inexperience in situations arrising on the road. it could be they cant 'read' the traffic properly, or theyre trying out something they havent experienced before- like a burnout or a handbreaky, or they dont realise how damn stupid it is to drive pissed. or any other combination of unforseen events culminating in a disaster. how do we address the inexperience? with comprehensive driver training. training that shows you how easy it is to loose control, and how to regain that control if it happens to you. you cant stop young people from doing burnouts and pulliong handbrakeys, they will try it out. power restrictions and speed limiters will not stop this alone. so you have to give the drivers the tools to save themselves. this is in no way a free ticket to speed and hoon and rally on public roads, and a lot of p platers will do the right thing. but for those who dont, its better they be able to save themselves (And theyre passengers) than not. training that shows you how to 'read' the traffic. this is supposed to be addressed by driving with your parents everywhere from the time you get you learners. the age to get you learners needs to be decreased then- to give drivers a better chance to learn this crucial skill so you dont pull out in front of that semi. speed limiters: no. expensive, easily bypassed, and if your going to install these why not a breath alchohol interlock as well? and if we're doing it to p platers why not all cars? and as previously mentioned everybody overtakes a bit over the limit. its safer going faster around grandma and grandpa than sitting in the opposite lane any longer than you have to. power/weight restrictions: yes. get the basics down in your p plate years before jumping in that 500kw gtr. roads: fix them! put the poles further away from the road while your at it to. cheers, Rowdy. although i can see this is in jest (i would hope, at any rate) i dont appreciate this.
  20. i actualy bought a set of just jap ones... ive had them for about a year now and my little 20 is still revving ubercleanly to 7k... *shrugs*
  21. Hey guys, some mates and myself made the trip up from the mornington peninsula at 11.00 on friday night, we got to the track at about 9.00 saturday morning, and were bloody glad we made the effort to get up there. we were all very impressed by the cars, the times, and the ladies a great day at a great event, and cant wait till next time. aside from the on track and in pit action, it was great to see so bloody many skylines in the carpark. we dont have anywhere near the amount of imports down here on the peninsula, so it was an absolute treat to see so many GTR's. also, a thankyou to the SAU NSW peeps who gave us vic boys a warm welcome, even inviting us back for a bbq later on. sorry we didnt make it back, we were pretty well set up at turn 12 cheers, Rowdy. p.s. i now hate the sound of rotaries more than ever, and those hondas didnt sound great either...
  22. with those mods you will be needing a tune, and i would expect to see significant gains. i would probably factor in a decent boost controler too.
