  1. Was Targa Hellyer run to the new weight rules? The Evo 9's still seem to have a pretty clear advantage, although obviously very well driven. How noticeable was the extra weight Ben?
  2. Car is now sold with the lesser brake package and will hopefully be seen at a Targa event in the near future.. Thanks
  3. Price update: Car only $22,500 Car and spares $24,500 Thanks Paul

  7. I have had a look back through some posts on here from a few years back with Wooster and Co when he was asking the same thing, and I think I have answered my own questions. Seems an Evo7 RS is probably the preferred model, but no ABS? Then again maybe a GSR and change the rear AYC diff is easier than retrofitting ABS to an RS. It also seems that while there may be a few Evo 8's out there that have been changed back to 7 spec, this isn't allowed for under the rules and not really the thing to do..
  8. So the wife is looking at changing to an Evo for Targa this year, and I know more about gynaecology than I do about Evo's.. I know there are a few Evo runners on this thread, so what is the general consensus on the best model for EM? Evo 6, Evo 7? I believe there are even some repannelled Evo 8's running in EM? Asked Targa about this but got no reply? The RS's are lighter, have mech diffs etc, but is the ADC/AYC on the GSR's overall better for the variable weather conditions of Targa. Help please.. I will be running the DR30 though, just need to pull my finger out and get it finished
  9. So the fuel system return and surge return tee back into the main tank? How big is the surge tank? This would definitely keep the fuel cooler, as long as the surge tank doesn't run dry..
  10. We have the surge tank etc in the boot, but mounted in a liquid/acid proof battery box sealed to the floor and vented to under the car, so technically keeps the fuel system still external to the cabin. Saves on stinky fuel smelling interior too. One thing I have noticed now though is with this system the fuel temps are alot higher, without the advantage of the area of the standard tank to cool the return fuel. Experimented at Lakeside last year. Put 5kg of bagged ice around the surge tank, Mel did 5 laps, and when she came back you could have made a nice cup of tea from the hot water in the bag! Don't quite know the answer to this one yet, maybe refit the air con and run a precooler through the evaporator ala Porsche Turbos? Has to be sapping power throwing in fuel at 30-40 degrees by the end of a long stage..
  11. Bad luck Dan, You were doing extremely well till then, very consistant too! What was the single most impressive part of the car from a now drivers perspective? Another thought is to check you are not getting fuel starvation (very similar tell tale traits..) Melinda did an engine in the Skyline at Wrest point a few years back. We thought it was fuel pump for sure, but did some testing after and found that under a third of a tank in an R32 Skyline led to serious starvation on long right hand corners. Was never a problem in the R33, but different fuel tanks. Not sure what fuel loads/fuel system you were running, just a thought.. Tim, saw the photo of the wire up job on the exhaust, reminded me of a gravel rally bodge job, good to see that it worked. Looked like an aftermarket extractor type manifold? All the gravel guys running these are changing them every few events as they just don't seem to be able to handle the heat and punishment that a standard cast manifold can? cheers paul
  12. Wooster-itus adj 1. intoxicated with alcohol to the extent of losing control over normal physical and mental functions Just thought I'd clear that up!
  13. Yeah it sucks big time. Thanks for the support Benny. The GTR is the best it has ever been with a really strong tune from the GT Auto boys. Only 300 and a bit killawasps, but massive midrange torque at early RPM. Was really looking forward to having a good hard go at it. House at Samford is a renter for 12 months to see if we like it out there, 5acres next to a creek, big shed, big house, pool etc, and based on your recommendation I convinced the owner to throw in free mowing!
  14. Verdict on the wrist is in and it is not good. Failed the strength and "pain reflex" test as he called it, and risk of further injury is high. So no Targa High Country for us. Very very disappointing.. Melinda and I will probably still end up heading up there on the Saturday and Sunday as flights and accom are booked and paid. Seems like the exorbitant accomodation is also not refundable, although they are going to try and relet it. If anyone needs accom for Thursady to Sunday on the mountain let me know, its 2 bedroom 6 bed apartment. As for selling the car, not too sure really but we are on the move to Samford in January and will probably not be doing much motorsport for the next 12 months so they all will be just sitting there gathering dust..
  15. Yep she's pretty fiesty that wife of mine, swings a good frypan! The GTR is basically ready, but the wrist is not so good. In a fancy splint for the week, then some nice big injections and see how it fares? We'll make the call early next week if I can race or not. All pretty depressing really. If the GTR isn't used at High Country there is talk in the house of putting it up for sale, no immediate use for it in the near future..
  16. Under the bonnet is factory silver. The whole car was that colour standard, found some action footage of it on the TT01 tape! It has only got some Koni yellows at the moment, all pretty standard. i will probably upgrade to some of the new Murrayflex Blue when I have some more $$$'s and time. I really hope to have it going again in a couple of weeks and get a test day at Lakeside before we leave, but see what happens. If it all turns to poo I will just take Mel's GTR down, not a bad backup plan.
  17. Was talking with Dan Ford about this a while ago about this when we were toying with a C5 Z06 and I'm sure he said they have to pay the LCT on the C6 Corvettes they bring in. I think $50k was the cut in point? Was also saying that the customs boys are pretty clued up on most cars values these days, so trying to sneak something in as a "bargain" will probably only end in tears.. I would check with Dan for you but have no idea which country he is in today? He'll be back in a couple of weeks.
  18. Not much to update Woo, been spending too much time working and skiing. Have lost about 100hrs trying to get some weight out of the thing! First 30kg was easy, but spent 4hrs last weekend for a 2.5kg gain.. Still looks the same, and will run like that. Fitting intercooler, bigger brakes, some spring/swaybar upgrades and tighten up the diff. Besides that and the diet will be pretty much as I bought it. Out of time for anything more, but if THC goes well then round 2 of upgrades for TT13. I have attached an engine bay picture to keep you happy, not that exciting really
  19. I'll be there too with my trusty nav Fook, hopefully debuting the new DR30 Skyline? It's still a looong way from ready, so Melinda's GTR is the fall back option. Quite excited really, first tarmac event in since Targa 09, and that one didn't end well..
  20. Both items delivered Perth to Brisbane without a scratch! Thanks Steven for the effort in boxing up the bonnet etc, great job! cheers paul
  21. I'll take the oil cooler setup and the bonnet if not already sold? I'll PM you my details. Cheers Paul
  22. I'm interested too! I chose one of these after weighing up heaps of options and with a definite budget in mind. It was very tempting to go back to an RX7, but I am hoping this will prove much more reliable and cheaper to run, and a little bit different. I still think the RX7 is the car to beat though.. There are cheap ones out there, this thing was a bargain, much less than a half decent jetski! I am under no illusion it will be competitive straight away though. I drove it (and a DR30) for the first time yesterday, and it is quick, but not fast. Feels good though, certainly not a bad starting point..
