Another report back Car has been tuned and i took it for a long drive yesterday. This shaft is going back to where it came from. There is a vibration/grumble at 70, goes away at 82ish then comes back at 100 then anything up from there it just gets worse and worse (not anywhere as bad as before. Anything over 120 you really cant see anyting out of the rear vision mirror). Also what i noticed was when you feed the power on it makes more of a noise then if you are just cruising. Im so over this thing! Going to WSID on wednesday so maybe a 7500 RPM launch might sort it out haha.

GT block Power FC Tomei procam 270 @ 10.25 Tomei stroker HKS GT RS's Kakimoto full mega N1 cat back X force 3.5 inch cat HKS dumps and front pipes Tomei manifolds 800 CC sard injectors Nismo fuel pump HKS Twin spark STI harmonic balancer Stock airbox with Nismo panel filter Blitz duel solenoid boost controller Nismo plenum Toda cam gears (intake set at 12 degree advance and exhaust roughly 0) Tuned on BP ultimate Coils were breaking down with anymore then 21 psi. Will go back with a fresh set and more boost. Setup the car for as much area under the curve as possible.

Rightio guys. Just a quick question into when a upgraded front diff in a GTR starts becoming needed. I get my car back tomorrow from being tuned and it *should* be making 420 RWKW. (no dyno fights or anything). The previous owner did smash a front diff coming onto boost in 2nd gear. If it is advisable, what should i be looking at? Car is just a weekender with an occasional trip to WSID and the track (once a year).

IIRC all at 8000 RPM 1st = 87 2nd = 138 3rd = 190 4th = 235 or whatever it is (stock) and the OS 5th gear is 290

So basically most of peoples cars on here are rolling defect boxes. Hopefully Mr Policeman will be nice to us.

My understanding is that there are no differences between any of them apart from the R34 exhaust cam, which can be changed over if need be.

$2768 from Greenline in june last year. That was for the 1-5 + input. However i bought a new stock 5th as i didnt want the shorter 5th gear. Worn selector forks? My box was only 11,000 KMS old when i destroyed 3rd gear. Cant be that.. can it?

Ahh nice one. The bloke i spoke to on the phone has put 8000 Miles on his box and so far has run a 10.7 @ 135 MPH. So he is putting a little bit more grunt out then what I am. I suppose thats some peace of mind.

OK. Just got off the phone to the guy in England. He said the vibration isnt detremental...just annoying. Its caused by one of the shafts not being balanced up right inside (im not sure which one.. he couldnt tell me). He said if you are REALLY worried about it you can give RB motorsport in England a call and they can set you on the straight and narrow. His issues were the same as mine. Vibration in 3rd at around 80 MPH which is about 120 km/h (give or take). So in summary. It can be fixed. But it means the box has to be rebuilt! BOOOOOOOOOO!

OK. The guy from England was going to call me tonight. Might get a call tomorrow. I said to MSN or FB me but he was set on calling. My box. The box i broke was a 11,000 KM old R33 box (got put in when the stroker went in). The new parts that went in was a OS 1-3 gear set with the heavy duty input shaft, and i put a new stock 5th in as i didnt need nor want the shorter OS gear. I also bought the billet centre plate oh and a few new synchros. Sealed bearings. Couldnt have done much more so it was practically brand new. This is the post on the pommie forum from him: "was built a good 2 year ago only found out the other day its a box problem, have been told its not to much of a problem just a bit annoying, mine only happens in 3rd at 80mph, if your accelerating through the gears you do notice it, it can be fixed but obbviously its a strip down job, let me know if you have any joy with it mate, regards Dave" Now my problem doesnt happen in any other gear apart from 3rd. 3rd seems to be a little noisier then the rest also. You notice it most when you come on boost and there is a driveline vibration. I dont know how else to explain it. When i put the rear sub frame alloy locking collars on MOST of it went away. Now I can only assume i have just masked them problem... not fixed it. The box doesnt crunch gears, its very direct and smooth.. just this damn vibration! I just cant see when pumping over 400 rwkw through a box and its vibrating can be a good thing! The shaft. I had it balanced up. Put it in last saturday. Ive only done 20 odd kms on it. I'll get back to you with that after i drive the car in anger

Nismo coppermix competition model (740 PS or something like that) Very easy to drive, isnt noisy has never slipped. Wouldnt even bother looking at any other clutch... Im too happy with this one!

Do i get it back after you fix it?

^^ Mine deffo aint the tyres. Ive had two different sets on the car and exactly the same thing. Its not really speed related either. Mine happens under load in 3rd. I can replicate that speed in 2nd and 4th and it doesnt happen. It isnt the driveshaft either. It has only happened since the OS Gearset went in.

I asked the Yavuz (unigroup) about it tonight when I dropped off my car. He said he has never heard of that problem... but will check it out. I know it doesnt help us at all but hey, he might know what it is. I dont like our chances though!

^^ Well I have the same 3rd gear vibration with both the stock shaft and and the carbon one. When i built my box i replaced all bearings with new NSK sealed units. Either way it will be interesting to see what comes out of you pulling yours apart. The bloke that built my box also used that yellow paint on the gears to make sure they were all meshing correctly... Everything seemed 100%.

Vibration after putting in the OSG 5 speed. I have that EXACT issue. ONLY in 3rd though. I have gotten rid of most of it by putting in rear sub frame locking collars. 90% dissapeared. How many kms have you put on it? Ive done 1200 and although its not getting any worse... it aint getting any better. I have rung up and spoken to quite a few people about this but they all say it isnt the gearbox! If you do manage to fix the issue please let me know what you did!

Thought i'd report back again . Got the shaft in last night. I think being a one piece it must transmit more NHV through the driveline. Its not unbalanced as such (well there isnt any one speed where it shakes the car like it used to). Of the guys that have fitted their's, have you found the same thing? On a side note car gets tuned on tuesday. Woohoo!

^^ Last tune it was 1.65 bar at 4700 RPM. However, I will reply again on friday and its getting retuned. Alot of stuff has changed (catback, plenum, boost controller, better cat) so I have a feeling this will drop a few hundred RPM. The catback made a HUGE difference (kakimoto Full Mega N1) Its going as good as what it was before on 1.3 bar. Going up a hill in 2nd gear with 3 people in the car and jump on the loud pedal at 6500 RPM and it will break traction. Give me 5 days

Are you on a stock stoke 26? If so i dont think RS's would be the right turbo for a street set up. Even myself on a high compression 2.8 litre im sometimes wishing for slightly smaller turbo's because im caught "off boost".... Gets retuned this week so see how much better it is. 2530's at the biggest on a stock motor IMO.

.8 ish bar is my understanding. Does it feel any quicker?

What about the factory bleed screw? Seems to work for me.
