Everytime I come on here (and since I left Japan ) it seems that theres a new SAU-J member coming in here and posting... so J-residents, if you don't mind, can we do a headcount and see just how many people are actually posting from Japan right now? Like I say, I'm not there now, but my in-laws are! (thank god) Oh, and when you post, can you state your employment, how long you've been in Japan and how long you intend to stay? Cheers

Pass... it might be just some kind of made up slang... hashiriya are famous for doing that. Anybody else have an idea?

Not for the day... for the first time in their life. Maybe I didn't explain it simply enough

They're def not Work Meisters. Haven't seen the G-Max style ones, but I dare say they are cheap copies of the truely awesome PIAA Super Rozza: http://www.piaa.co.jp/piaa_web_new/02_prod.../untitled3.html

My wife can't get the 'specialized' words either. Learn a new thing everyday... thanks guys. It reminds me of just the other day at the Drift Battle round 1 here in Perth. I took my missus for the first time to see Australian drift, and of course there are a few industry people there, some of which have been to Japan many times, but never been a long term resident. One of the owners of a well known Nissan parts business says to my missus: "Ohayo Gozaimas!" at 4:30pm in the afternoon. I'm like, "haha, it's afternoon but you said good morning, funny...", but he gave me this menacing look, like he meant what he said before coming back and saying "Japanese sometimes say Ohayo when they first meet someone, like it's the dawn (start > morning) of a beautiful relationship..." I'd never heard that before. Way OT but has anyone else got any other wack Japanese language experiences?

$3,000 a set?? Someones making some money... haha I can only locate the Nismo side stripe for the E51 ElGrand (Big ass van) as it's the only one that would seem long enough for an R32 GT-R. I guess that the Z-tune and all those just use the same generic Nismo stripe, but just cut it down in length for whichever car it's going on. I can have it sent to your door... just PM me.

Thanks momo, but what could 'suspension device' refer to exactly? I know you probably got what you wanted already Richard but I need to know in order to improve the translating skills Anyone else got a translation of 懸架装置?
-
Style-wise they'd go great in a Mark II Golf... or brand wise in an HZ Kingswoody.
-
I'll have a bash at it Richard, it basically says: 1) Details of modifications, 2) *** device (weird kanji - anyone?) 3) forced induction engine 4) classification 06134-004 Even my missus couldn't read those kanji... hope someone else has a clue?

This year is the 2006 Japan-Australia Year of Exchange http://www.yoe.australia.or.jp/english/ 30th anniversary. It's probably not going to be in your face everywhere you go, but if you're into Japanese culture (or anything for that matter) try and support some of the festivities that might be organised for your area. My wife works for J.A. (Japan/Australia) News here in Perth, and they've got heaps of events lined up right up until New Years eve already. Nip-pon cha cha cha! Nip-pon cha cha cha!

If you sign a declaration saying you are bringing the car in to Australia for personal use only, you don't have to get the car degassed. But you can only do 1 car per person, per year (I think, something like that). So for the one off importer of an older vehicle, de-gassing isn't required. Multiple cars on the other hand would need to be degassed, and thats why that charge is added to all cars from Prestige, Imports 101 etc.

The New Power one is just a sticker to say that they've put New Power oil additive in the engine. New Power is like a refining fluid which reduces the number of microparticles in the oil... for a 6.7% increase in power!!! ... but they didn't say when they used it so it could've been back in Heisei 7...

So whats peoples take on German/French brand pronunciation... should we say it properly or not give a shit? Hahaha... I just remembered something. When I was in Germany visting family, I was suprised that they all said B-M-VEE instead of BMW!!! I guess thats one example of where it definately sounds wack if you say it the way the home country says it...

Thanks Michael Here are a few more: #6 5 Zigen : In English 'Five Ziggen' (not Zai-gen). The Japanese pronunciation for '5' is 'Goh', so the Japanese would say 'Goh Ziggen'. #7 Tanabe : Tah-nah-beh... (not Tah-nay-be). #8 Jun : 'Joon', but the 'oo' sound is said quickly, like 'u' as in 'put'. Most people get this right anyway.

I do, and at least a few other people on here. It's really sad isn't it? edit: Just to clarify, I didn't come on here to 'sell' to people the idea of correctly pronouncing Japanese brand names. Some people have always wondered about this. So here you are... the way the Japanese say it. If you don't care/think it's pointless, I'd appreciate it if you stay out of the thread.

No, I think the guy who founded APEXERA (changed name remember) was referring to the highest point on his missuses erect nipples? Something like that

Boostzor: I found my high horse at www.skooledyourass.com it even has the 'rocking feature' legs... Funky: Whats more weird, saying 'Bride' as in the marriage type when referring to seats, or saying 'Bridd'? I've never been able to find out the story behind the name, but something tells me the 'e' was never meant to be there... although now being back in Australia, I know where you're coming from. There... I didn't take offence Topaz: I met with an Apexi sales rep (he came to my house) while in Japan and introduced himself as "Apecks no Moriguchi desu" (Mr Morigucji from Apex). I asked "why don't you say the 'i'?" and he said they never pronounce it... even showed me the katakana spelling on his business card... no 'i'. Ok, Shan ere goes: Stagea: In English, it's exactly as you'd think it was "Stay-g-ah". Cefiro: "Seh-fee-roh"... most people get this one right!!! Why? #5 Veilside: "Vay-ill-side". Another marriage reference... but cool company anyway.

Hi guys, Please don't take this thread the wrong way... I just want to inform fellow SAUers of a situation that I've noticed since coming back from Japan: Brand pronunciation. First of all, I wanna address the 'so what? who gives a shit' crowd. Just imagine HSV takes off in Japan (they sell them there you know) and a whole underground HSV club gets started. After a while, one of you goes over to Japan to see this HSV club in Japan, and you notice that they all pronounce 'HSV' as "Hah-zive"... like they thought it was a proper word, not 3 seperate letters. Of course you're going to try and correct them. What would you do if they said "so what, everybody says 'Hah-zive' here so who cares?" You'd think they were pretty arrogant eh... So I'll start with the #1 most miss pronounced: #1 GReddy : In English, say "Greh-dee". No ifs, no buts, no 'but it's got a capital G and R..." it makes no difference. #2 BRIDE : In English, say "Bridd" (as in 'SYD-ney'), not "Bree-day"! The whole Bree-day thing was started by HPI magazine, and I'm sorry Ben Ellis, it's wrong. #3 Cusco : In English, say Koos-co. Not 'Kuss-ko. #4 Apex(i) : It's 'APECKS"... plain and simple. Don't pronounce the small 'i' as that actually stands for 'integration' and isn't required. Incidently, Apex has changed it's business name to 'APEXERA' recently. There are more, but I'll leave it at that for now.
