  1. Roy, the driver in both times was a Nations Cup and ATCC driver with the initials JB. He also drove a bit with a QLDer called Dick who drove a lot of Fords and had a bit to do with developing the BA XR/GT range. (I can't belive i tied that all together)
  2. I was there when an E55 AMG trounced a 2001 996 Porsche Turbo round corners and under brakes. Roy i think you're right about waiting and seeing... Ford even hinted they might offer the suspension their XR6s ran in Targa as a kit... Made a huuuuge difference to the handling...
  3. The McLaren in JGTC isn't run by McLaren (it was bought off them and developed by the team). Remember, the Macca won the Le Mans 24hr in 1995 as a production car. They didn't sell many as it was 1million POUNDS and designed as the ultimate race car. No abs, traction control ,etc. Just RWD and a 650hp BMW V12. There was a very select group of people "okayed" by the creator of the car, Gordon Murray (he's helping Mercedes build the SLR). You had to have lotsa racing experience before you could buy...
  4. Tell him to buy an Alfa 147GTA. I've driven one and they rock. Easily dispatch STis on twisty roads and flog them up the straight...
  5. Why does every one say heavy cars can't handle? You ever driven an AMG SL55/E55 or been punted around a track in a BMW M5? They are all between 1720 and 1930kg and will outhandle Porsche Turbos, GT-Rs, and NSX Hondas. Yes i've seen it done and yes i was there when a leading race driver with the initials JB handed down his opinion that the SL55 (1930kg) was the best handling car there. I gotta say, I've driven an R34 GT-R and spent quite a bit of time in XR6Ts (both utes and sedans in both auto and manual). For the XR6, IMHO: Auto is the gun tranny as the manual is slow, notchy and has a super-heavy clutch (and it's far weaker). Performance brake option makes all the difference. I couldn't tell the difference in braking performance between the Ford and the 2000-model GT-R. The optional brakes are that good. Ford significantly down-play the outright power and torque figures of the XR6. We rolled an XR8 & XR6 onto a dyno and they recorded the same 200rwkW and the torque was pretty similar, although the V8's torque curve is flatter which gives it the low-speed corner advantage.
  6. Red cars go faster, don't they?
  7. These cars are also designed to corner hard but be street friendly. But i agree with Predator, Yanks can't get it right. Lets see them take on Robert Frith's 600kW R33 GT-R
  8. The BA II will be about that, maybe less as there's a host of "weight loss" going on at ford, but their aim is to "Shed weight, but not lose any phatness" that was a quote from Geoff Polites that a colleague heard... They're using: Aluminium suspension components Aluminium panels (guards/bonnet/boot) on heavier models (XRs, Fairmonts) Lighter, forged wheels as an option
  9. The BA I Falcon XR6T weighs 1700kg. It makes same rear-wheel kW as 260kW XR8. I know cause i was there when it happened on a true-reading dyno. XR6T is a beaut family car but if you're gunna compare cars, make it a Skyline GT Passage (or equivalent 4 door Skyline). Remember, the Aussie cars are Grand Tourers (that's what GT stands for, y'see?) not sports coupes, sports cars or supercars. If you insist on this pretty useless debate, remember the Ford has a new car warranty, insurability, dealer servicing and parts, and the most important thing: new car smell. LOL
  10. Continuing on from Waz's idea, what about Wheel size (some Euros used metric wheel sizes but they were scrapped in the late 1980s) when tyre size is metric? and what about Subwoofer/Speaker sizes?
  11. My money is on Birdie, she can fly overhead and sh!t on them all from a great height. That fat basta!d Grimace wouldn't stand a chance if Birdie did a strafing run...
  12. Like John Travolta said in Pulp Fiction: "It would almost be worth them doing if i could catch them in the act."
  13. You mean Bambi teaming up with the Hamburgler or you want three cheesburgers in Bambi's fight team?
  14. I would argue that all the VN/VL/VS Commodores that run around on the coast with Nismo badges are worse. OR all the R31 Australian-delivered sedans with GT-R badges...
  15. I had my Mazda for 2 hours after i picked it up, brand new!!, from the dealer. Parked it at Tuggerah shops for 15mins. Came out and someone had thrown front and rear doors open into my new car, causing dents in my front door and the leading edge of my rear door... GRRRRRR
  16. Anyone seen the Prelude driving around Sydney with the Alfa look-alike bodykit on it?
  17. My computer fcucked up and crashed. Only just got it back online. What i was going to say waaaaas: This has been sh!tting me up the wall for a while: Licensing of drivers. In Australia for some reason a license is regarded as a right, NOT the privalege it is. The test is too easy and we've got too many people out on the roads who don't have a bloody clue about driving. What's scarier is that in many cases they don't keep their cars safely maintained (legal tread on tyres, etc) and then call us/you/me dangerous because we've got performance cars. Sure there are a few performance car owners who don't know wrong from right, but they're a minority. People who drive on the main freeway from Sydney-Newcastle (f3) won't keep left unless overtaking (there's enough bloody signs to remind them!). They just blindly travel at 100 or less in the right lane. WTF??? Most of these the sphincter of the universes also pull out, cutting you off, and then trundle along at 100 or less in a 110km/h zone. WTF#2??? Parking lot dents. I'm sick of it. I don't know why i bother keeping a car looking nice if people don't watch their doors/parking and crash into it. I've spend over 2k fixing dents up in the last year. What's with people in Sydney and the Central Coast? Speed limits. THESE ARE RHETORICAL QUESTIONS This is a can of worms that inspires passionate and biased replys so all im gunna say is: I totally dig 40km/h school zones BUT what's with all the other fixed speed cameras in safe, multi-lane roads or at the bottom of hills? And why doesn't all this money go to fixing our abysmal roads?
  18. Ok, i drive the Sydney-Newcastle freeway regularly and I've had enough
  19. Rightio. Looking at the two posts above, i think somebody kicked a rock.
  20. What about if Godzilla got together with all the other monsters he fought (including that giant moth, Mothra and King Kong) and took on all of Disney's woodland creatures. I still reckon if you got the town of South Park in on it you'd have a f&*kin cool movie...
  21. Yep, that's it. The best car ever made, eh? and it's AUSTRALIAN!
  22. I reckon you should run an R34 N1 GT-R against Jimmy from South Park, or if he's unavailable, try Timmy. Other grudge matches I'd like to see: HSV vs A slot car Supra TT vs a scooter Lamborghini Gallardo vs the warthog from The Lion King
  23. punch it into Google. It hasn't been built since the early 60s. It was made out of washing machine parts and the fuel gauge was a section of the clear, plastic fuel line that ran through the cabin.
  24. I know of a Red Lancer from QLD that's got a Haltech unit. His name is Wes MacDonald from www.Redlineau.com
  25. Fcuck it. I'm going to settle this once and for all. THE BEST CAR IN THE WORLD IS: The Lightburn Zeta.
