  1. There's a few Soarers runnin' round Oz with 1.5JZs in them (3.0L 2JZ Supra bottom end, 2.5L 1JZ head) and those 1UZ-FE V8s go REALLY well. You can screw bulk power out of stock internals
  2. The information I've always been given from Japanese auto industry sources reckons that only 44 of the 99-built were sold to the public back when it was released. They were both regular GT-R and custom colours. The Nissan-owned vehilces could have been sold off but I do know that Nismo owns 7, incl a yellow one with a 500hp engine. 400R Number 31 (Champion Blue paint) sold in England recently for 69,995 POUNDS. That's $166,200approx Aussie Pesos.
  3. I'll be up for that. What time would you blokes want to meet at the twin servos? It's not hard to find Mingara. You just take the Tuggerah Exit and follow the signs to The Entrance along Wyong Road. You can't miss Mingara Rec. Club as it's on the right-hand side of the road in a big, open paddock. There's a Maccas, Burmah Petrol Station on the roundabout you need to turn into. Gimme a PM if you don't mind following a V8 Commodore otherwise
  4. Gotta say that Warners Bay one souns tops. I'd love to do Old Pacific Highway to Calga, then Peats Ridge Road all the way to Broke and Wollombi (stop in for some Dr Jurd's Jungle Juice), down to Cessnock (stop in for some wine tasting) and off to Newcastle foreskin, erm, foreshore (drinks at the brewery?). Otherwise you could do an overnight cruise from Syd, up Old Pacific Highway, Peats Ridge Road, Bucket's Way, Oxley Highway to Port Macquarie.
  5. I've driven a host of new Aussie performance cars. The turbo ute isn't as controllable as the SV8, although it's line-ball in acceleration and can carry enough kegs of bundy n coke to have you pissed into 2006. I'd look at the lease deals you can get with SS Commodore Utes. They're very, very good.
  6. Ok as someone who HAS drifted for 2 weeks in a borrowed SV8 Series II, I can say that as far as new cars go, they are THE SHIT! Very controllable, lots of power, very comfortable, shit brakes, steering could be much better. However, I agree that drifting or circuit-sprinting a new car is very foolish. The manufacturer can void your warranty and that ain't pleasant when something actually goes wrong on the car. If you wanna be different, the Toyota Chaser, Nissan Cefiro or Hachi Roku are all good "learner" cars to punt. Otherwise buy a V8 Yank POS (Camaro, Mustang) or a V8 ute.
  7. If the Commonwhore doesn't win People's Choice (when the Gibson GT-R will be there, puhlease!) it'll win Lowest Domestic Taxi Tarted Up To Look Like It Goes Fast When It Really Gets Its Arse Handed To It On A Plate By WRXs.
  8. Keichi's Hachi Roku. Not only does it drift like a mo-fo, but it's the King of Touge as well (until that bloody S2000 came along in Vol. 8)... I don't have a problem getting my Commodore out and drifting it. Live axle VR with a 5speed and 5L under the bonnet makes for predictable handling (read: shithouse), so you may as well have fun. What's wrong with a bit of Aussie, German and Jap drift? Now let's get a big cup of cocoa, join hands and sing.. "kumbyah my son of rajab, kumbayah..."
  9. Sorry B-man but I know all that. I live on the Coast and used to work as a bar-man at the club! I might have to see if we can get a Skyline club discount at the bar...
  10. Rezz is correct, it was featured with a red one is SPEED magazine, issue 7. It's the work of Ernie Parry from Skyline Imports. The red one was at Final Battle on the J's Racing stand. It was based off the Kakimoto kit and the legality is questionable considering the amount of fibreglass in it. Parry was quoted as saying that "drive-in-drive-out, the widebody conversion is up to $30,000". OUCH. Both red and yellow cars are pretty stock power wise.
  11. I'll be there, but I don't think I'll enter the Commodore :bahaha: How come you're going to Mingara? It's a good place 'cause the car park is out the back and is in view from Wyong Road (a major road on the 'coast).
  12. Webbers aren't just any carbie. They are THE carbie. :-P Carbies are good for two reasons: They're very cheap compared to EFI, and the noise a pair of triple side-drafts make on a Prince GT-B.....
  13. Actually, what that 44% stake DOESN'T include is the fact that Renault board members own shares in Nissan, bringing the total to almost 60% (something like 59.98%) If Nissan's new GT-R isn't a Skyline (Ghosn's said that already), then it also might start it's own designation run... X35? P35? Who the fcuck knows until Nissan says it's the... (insert letter of choice here)35 As well as this, the talk of the previously-mentioned *and unsubstantiated* dry-sumped engine might be a bit premature... According to registration officials in England, there's no way you can get a dry-sumped car road registered for every day use. That removes the English market. Over here (in Australia) it's also extremely difficult to pass ADR laws in all states with a dry-sump motor. America might be ok (what say ye incuboy?) but who knows.... There's only a few things that have been confirmed, one of which is that the designers are adamant the next GT-R will have 4 round tail lights. Sorry for the long post. But we can't get wrapped up in hype. Now let's just all sit down with a big cup of cocoa and sing Kumbaya
  14. I think Goshn should be congratulated. Without him, there'd be no Nissan at all (it would've gone bankrupt remember?) By the way, anyone know who owns Nissan? Yep, Renault has a majority stake in them. Those "Bloody Euros" saved Nissan's arse BIG TIME
  15. The reason the V8 guys originally fitted the monster tachos to their cars was to keep a more accurate eye on the revs and to stop over-revs (pre fuel cut outs). Monster tachs on autos? You bet. Autos are far superior for drag racing. Not possible to go quicker with a manual in the 0-400m. It's kinda important to watch revs closley when you've got thousands of $ worth of drag or circuit engine screaming away in front of you...
  16. You mean the Gemballa GTR 750 Evo? It's owned that race track for 3 years now. Good luck. :bahaha: I think Nissan's gunna have to do something radical to topple the 04-model GT2 Porsche: More power, more torque *680Nm from 3.6L-TT), less weight, sharper handling, better brakes...
  17. Already been done... it's in Newcastle/Hunter in a shed (Maitland) except it's a nutso NA one with 8-throttle induction and mega-spec cams. Hooked up to Skyline 5spd 'box and GT-R diff that's been cut-n-shut to fit. Yet to run more than a few hundred meters as it has problems with gearbox vibration they can't sort out once the car gets over 40km/h There's also a Supra in Tas with a JGTC-spec 3UZ-FE in NA-trim. Very cool...
  18. Damn, come through the side window? Then i'd have to get it re-tinted..
  19. I'll take a Dauer 962LM Porsche thanks. 400+km/h top speed, 0-100km/h in under 2.3seconds, price tag of well over $1.5million :burnout:
  20. Driven the Astra and it'll leave a stock S15 behind down a straight or through the corners, no fear. WRXs need to watch out as well 'cause the little Opel's are effing quick. VW GTi is a soft chassis and is more a cafe-latte poser's car. Commodore S... You got a family or something? Can't afford an SV8? Personal pick would be the Astra Turbs. Beaut car, will be a hero car in years to come...
  21. I guess the Holden engineer i was talking to (not at the show) was wrong then
  22. I was out there (resident of the Coast an all) for some lunch and saw the biggest convoy of circus clowns roll through... It was a case of: Rice, rice, rice, oooh that's kinda cool, rice, rice, damn that's low, rice, rice, geez that's loud, rice, etc etc... (It's interesting they describe the place as a "quiet resort" pffft. Hardly. More like a run-down Coogee. I tried go through the Haven to check some of the rides out but there were so many arse-monkeys parking all over the road, wandering all over the road, not to mention all those who stopped to talk to their mates thereby blocking the road. I think the worst aspect of this is the total lack of respect they've shown for the destination, the authorities and the (generally) good name of car enthusiasts and tuners. Be they hot rodders (unfairly named in newspaper), street machiners (when you say hot rod, mostnon-car people think of V8s) and import/high-tech drivers we've all been impuned by this behaviour. I hope the police show a similar lack of respect the next time someone like them organises a cruise. Sorry, rant over...
  23. It's cool bout the Soarer price, i didn't actually want you post it up but I was kinda interested (compare that to a 300+kW Supra/ RX-7, GTS-T etc) Ask him about the MAX neons, pizza delivery in an XR6 and running a car on beer....
  24. Not known him that long, met him through work. Only know of the GT-Rs through what workmates have told me (was told he's owned a few and didn't know about any other Soarers - how much did he get for the 300+rwkW TT one?). I DO know he's now got a Bentley (did he fit the neons to that, or the XR6T?) that he bought in Japan while he was over there doing the V35 thang.
