  1. off topic but on a related note, ive recently noticed my car at about 5k revs lose power and make a noise like trying to crank over a engine with a dead battery (kind of its a bit different but thats the best comparison i can think of) Im guessing its the coilpacks? i believe mine are standard so i was gonna upgrade to splitfire ones. Sound about right to you guys?
  2. Chances are its the aftermarket steering wheel problem, exact same thing happens to my 32 i just ignore it. Failing that 100 dollars for a lock bar and you can sort the problem out.
  3. should say on your engine cover. Mine says 75000, and seeing as the previous owner didnt know if it was done by the owner before him im assuming that was the last time it was done. because mines on 165000 now i figured i might as well just change it, better safe than sorry.
  4. dont do much highway/freeway driving which i believe is what they mainly effect but thanks for the input.
  5. sweet as, yeah i get parts at trade price anyway its not so much the money situation as making sure i do everything. Any other considerations to be done other than the water pump?
  6. Hey guys, Servicing my car soonish, i need to replace the timing belt mainly because i dont know when it was last done and better to be safe than sorry really. Is there anything thats important to do on a 32 GTS-4 w/ RB20det while im changing the timing belt? I just remember something about changing the water pumps on the 34's at the same time due to the accessability of it or something. Anything similar? Obviously ill be doing plugs and such at the same time as the basic stuff just wondering if there was something else i should be aware of. Any input helpful guys. Cheers, Greg.
  7. Ive been pulled over 4 times in a night before. Almost stock 32 gts-4 but i was running p plates at the time. Asked me where i was going, where i lived, how far away that was etc etc. Its just apart of driving an import i think you'll find alot of us on here have been pulled over for no reason at some point.
  8. im so up for just coming around to watch it get put on, might learn something and meet some of you guys. Pm me if you want me there, i can like hand you spaners or something.
  9. i always thought alloy pedals were out of the question. Ill check with the inspector i know at some point.
  10. Your maths is almost right but you have to realise that half of that 12.7mm is going to be on the inside of the rim. So your rim will be 6.35mm further in due to width but 13mm further out due to offset. Net effect is 5.65mm further out. If you run a skinnier tyre and theres no issues with rubbing then it should be fine...
  11. Technically all pods are supposed to be boxed and secured anyway. You shouldnt have an issue with legality.
  12. Lets all just move to malaysia where the cops dont care what you do.
  13. Potenza Adrenalin re001's are what im running on my car, by far the best tyres ive owned. Cost me 840 including alignment.
  14. Oh really? Thought it was earlier. Cheers for that.
  15. What you've got to realise is that modification laws all have a reason behind them, some better thought out than others. A locked diff is illegal because at low speeds your tyres chirp, and its incredibly difficult to drive the car. A 2 way however enables you to drive at low speeds without an issue. Also a 2 way makes your car more predictable and consistent on acceleration and deceleration which can only help your control of the car. Granted in the wrong hands you can get the wheels to spin, but its not only drifters running 2 ways and thats what alot of people seem to overlook. Coilovers are legal as long as the springs are still captive at the height setting you have set. If the springs are no longer captive you might as well have 2 steel rods for struts and hence this is probably why you got pinged for it. Youll find the government realises some people are car enthusiasts and hence the legality of things like halfcages. A full cage is illegal because there is a bar that runs next to your head and seeing as you dont drive with a helmet on the street its possible you could hit your head on it. Carbon Fibre bonnets are illegal because they are unsure on how they work with airbags, cars that are pre 89 ( i think) are legal to have carbon bonnets. Ill think youll find alot of carbon bonnets are illegal because of rear facing vents, which is because if there is an engine fire and your stuck in the car the flames come up on the windscreen. There is alot of information on the web about legalities of different mods but you have to know what to trust and generally its easier to just ring the pits and ask them. Sorry for going somewhat offtopic man, but yeah just give the pits a call and tell them your list and they will tell you what you need to do before inspection.
  16. Personally I'd prefer a lancer compared to alot of 33's i see running about these days. Magnas are hard to find in manual and are way too much of a boat if the guy wants to learn how to really drive a car. S14 Pulsar are ok but they are hampered by the fact they are in fact terribly ugly (my opinion), Swifts would be a good choice no argument there. Hyundai's have possibly the worst connotations to them than any other car Ive heard of.
  17. Ok lots of replies which i think are a little unjustified so I'll put my views up on the matter. An N/A car is obviously going to be slower than a turbo guys but it doesn't automatically mean that its not worth modifying. There are different categories of racing and there is a reason for this. Alot of people are rocking N/A 4AGE Hachis, JDM Yard has an N/A K24A civic running an 11 ( i think, dont quote me on this but its either an 11 or low 12). For your mate there are alot of options, EG civics are so damn cheap, as are CE lancers or even CC if he wants cheaper, an ae86 is always a fun and exciting option along with a KE70 which insurance is gonna cost next to nothing and so is the car. If its his first car I wouldn't recommend getting a turbo car straight up anyway, i mean you could but you wont exactly be able to push the limits on the street without risking a hefty speeding fine. I know people with modded lancers and there are both good and bad ones out there. I know a dude with a CE lancer dumped down on Tein coilovers, running 16x8 +4 super lights (yeah that offset isnt a typo), whos looking at doing a 6a12 mivec engine swap, for something different. His car corners faster than my skyline can ever dream of and on the street i struggle to keep up with him without breaking the speed limits. Thats a 1.5L SOHC CE Lancer. Sure in a straight line i destroy him but wheres the fun in that? Where is the driver skill in planting your foot? Theres a place in the world for small displacement NA cars, its just not on the drag strip. Neons and big bodykits are a big nono to be honest, they really arent making your car go any faster (quite the opposite) and i personally just dont like the look of them. 13K is alot of money really, and he has a plethora of options available to him with the current car market, which i think everyone has noticed is dropping rapidly. Tell him to test drive a few cars to find one he likes because honestly its all up to the individual person.
  18. I personally know one of the head inspectors at the pits and coilovers are not illegal. Most "decent" coilovers are damper adjustable (bump and rebound) and should be fine. As long as you have them set at legal limits when you go over the pits, thats 100mm from the lowest point of the car and i forget the exact measurement but i think its 600mm from the bottom of the headlights. If you have a super clunky 2 way then youll probably get picked up on it but having a 2 way in general isnt illegal. A locked diff is illegal obviously. How you think a 2 way is dangerous on the road is beyond me, and what coilovers were you running?
  19. Coilovers isnt an instant fail..... Neither is a 2way lsd. Both are perfectly legal.
  20. Agreed on the GT-R
  21. I dont think there are actual legal limits for noise. Its basically up to the officer at the time to decide whether its appropriate.
  22. Man that internet filter is probably the dumbest shit ive ever heard. Lets lag australias already slow internet network. Great idea.
  23. Every skyline issue ever can pretty much be put down to coils, or so it seems.
  24. I never actually got to see the condition of mine when it came out, but i had to get it towed to the shop to get it done. When i tried to get the clutch to enagage black smoke came pouring out the back and it smelt somewhat like burning flesh. I replaced the flywheel while i was at it:P
  25. Wouldnt trust anything you read on wikipedia.
