Man I miss the good ol days when at least one of my GTRs was always working. Sold my R33 GTSt back in 2000, & in April of 2000 bought my 95 R33 GTR with only 13000km from Prestige Walkerville. Raced at the first Drag Combat in May 2002 when the HKS race GTR was there. I was pulling 10.7 back then. Last time I raced the car was April 2003 with 9.45. Almost 4 years ago!!! Is nearly ready for the haul interstate to have another go. The 97 GTR I bought from Douglas Dinan back in 03 when I had the R34 Vspec is almost back on the road as well after another engine problem (hope this is the last time) Keen to hit the hills soon.

Fresh Rb26 Short Engine

This engine is still for sale -
If AIR doesn't open soon, I may just take it interstate once to test it, & then sell the car complete. It is a shame, but no point having a GTR like this & not being able to use it regularly.

After so long off the road, I just want to get it finished & race it.

I tried to get some 15" Advans a while ago, but was told they stopped making them. Keir uses a 15" US Weld racing rim to run slicks on, they may not fit the R33 gtst though because of the offset. Shouldn't be too hard to borrow some centerlines or weldies & play around with them to see it they fit. If only they made 16 or 17" slicks. It would make life much easier for sport compact racing.

Fark........ 7.57.... that is just amazing, wish I was there to see it. I remember being at Drag Combat in May 2002 when the HKS GTR was there. 7 second GTRs are just awesome. I dont actually have a set of wheels for my GTR at the moment. The ones in the photos are off Keir's GTR so we can roll it around. I have Carbon brakes on it so we can fit 15" rims if we decide to run slicks at some stage. We are just using std 17" R33 GTR rims on the car for the dyno. I had some nice gold TE37s a while ago, but I sold them as the car was not being used for so long.

The car is nearly ready - we are just having a tuning issue. Methanol IS NOT easy. Apparantly Reece took a year to get the tune right using methanol as we are just finding out now.

My GTR is turnkey & ready to go save for a small issue with the new Turbo - should be dynoed & ready within a couple of weeks. Keir & I have discussed taking the GTRs to Kwinana for the Drag Wars meeting in November, past that I am not sure. We sure would like to run 8 seconds together on the same pass. My car only ran 9.4 back in April 2003 (last time I raced it!) so I am just keen to see an 8.99 or 2 first & get used to the car before we push it too hard. hey Adrian, fiddy of what?

Exactly. Very well said. If only I could go back 5 years with what I now know! The problem with many "drag cars" is that they start out as nice street cars & somewhere the line between street & drag becomes blurred. I have a very tidy R33 GTR that has only 20,000 genuine kms & was a beautiful streetable 10 sec car. I had "old shcool" drag cars in the past & got out of them because I couldn't use them on the street & was at the mercy of the local track's schedule. My GTR is now totally unusable as a street car, has been off the road for years due to a lack of interest, money, & a place to race it (AIR has been closed for ages) & now, after a long struggle, we have finally got it ready. If I had used my brains & foreseen the huge amount of money & time that was going to go into this car & what sort of times it was going to pull once finished, I never would have done it. Of course, I now have no choice & will race the car as soon as I can, & have great fun doing so, but if I was going to set out building a dedicated drag car from the start it would never have been a Skyline GTR - It would have been a BA falcon or VZ Monaro body with a Keith black V8, massive rear slicks, & been running 7 seconds with some type of reliability & cost a lot less money than the Nissan. Fast GTRs are awesome fun to drag race & very challenging, but at the end of the day, the small capacity engine, the 4WD system, the banger style clutches, & the weight of these cars are huge drawbacks if it is only going to be used at the drag track. The great thing about GTRs is their street & circuit racing capabilities & it is in these places the Skyline is a supercar. I am not surprised there are so few other GTRs in Australia running into the nines - it is just not good value for money. A small handful of die-hards (including me) will soldier on because we have passed the point of no return, & because we are addicted to fighting the cars all the way down the track, & lots of Skyline fans will love to watch because they are entertaining to see. I heard my GTR run today for the first time in 3 1/2 years & it sounded awesome running on methanol. Pity that we have nowhere to race in Adelaide. Looks like I might be buying a container.

Yep, was good, hope no-one got into any trouble.

Yep, next time we should make a meet point & just meet everyone there so we dont have to wait on the side of the road. Had to leave early too. Next time, be good to do it on a Sunday afternoon, then we can get some good photos.

Just saw this - too late to join??? PM me, can leave shortly

Well, you will all be pleased to know that 34VSPEC is now at home back in Adelaide (where it should be!) I went for a ride in it today with the new owner & it is still an awesome car - has lots more mods (& a few more kays of course) & looks great. The new owner had an R32 GTR a few years ago & is no stranger to performance cars, & he will be bringing it out on cruises this summer.
-
So I take it you didn't make it to the drags tonight then??? Amazing, after all the piss weak meetings we have had over the last 5 years, all of a sudden there is a mention of a few V8s doing a burnout or 2 & we get over 15,000 people at the Drags!!!!!! Even then, we still get 1 1/2 hour breaks between runs to clean the track. Was great to see some fast runs & all, & dont mean to winge, but for **** sake, when will we catch up to the rest of the country!!! Anyway, glad you are back mate & look forward to seeing your Black beast out on some cruises soon. Cheers.

Sounds like you guys are having a great time. You missed an interesting game of footy last night!!! See you when you get back.

PM Please. Have not been on a Skyline cruise for ages.

Hi there, I went out to Calder for a few hours tonight. You guys have a great setup out there. Saw a few Skylines running. Wish we had drags every Friday night in Adelaide.
