Yeah, beemers are cool cruisers. Very nice. Pity they dont have turbos, or I would have held on to mine. I can also recommend Darren at Impressive Paint & Panel. He is a mate of Mark Tilbrooks, and has done excellent work for me in the past. They have sprayed my GTR front bars (numerous times) & did the interior & cage on my race GTR, the gold TE37s, and my engine covers & plenum on the XR6T ute.

Keep it local. Go & see Simon at PPG. They do excellent work.

Allright!!! Been on heaps of cruises lately, but been hanging out for a Skyline cruise. During the day is always the best - cant wait to check out all those stove top headlights in a big line in front of me. Will be good to catch up with everyone I know, & all those who I have not met before - been a while since I've had a skyline actually going!!! Good timing. Will invite some old school members who may not have seen this post. Hope someone brings their camera. JM

Price not right!!! Thats the problem with beemers. They all look very similar, but the difference between a 318i & a 325Ci is over $40,000! I think $72,000 is very reasonable for a 12 month old 325Ci sports that costs $92,000 new. I have always wanted a European sports car, but I never should of ordered that M3, then bought the 325 instead as it has cost me dearly. Could of had both the GTRs going ages ago - but you live & you learn. If business picks up, & I can get both the GTRs going soon, will probably hang on to the BMW. Would love to tint the windows, drop it down a bit on some fat 20s. Then I could join Platinum! Adelaide is a small town isn't it! Loved your bike(would kill myself if I had one of those). PS. That "blond chick" is now a brunette (my lovely girlfriend)

Yeah, I was blatently targeted for speeding the other day. Luckily, as I only have one point left till 2006, I managed to talk my way out of it!!! I live again, to cruise another day. Touch wood.

Wow, this is an old thread. I cant believe it has taken so long & it's still not ready. The age old saga of "while it's apart - lets do this & this" has taken over & caused the current build to drag out to long (no pun intended!) The GTR has been in hibernation at Tilbrooks for too long. The new engine is built, with dry sump, mechanical fuel pump, 12x 1600cc injectors & TA45 turbo on custom manifold. Eveything is there, just need to fit water pump, wire up injectors, fit & paint new custom bar, & tidy up a few things - but generally, it is mostly done. The main hold up has been all the breakages on my street GTR - but the latest (& hopefully final) engine build is in, along with a 6 speed sequential OS gearbox & I have been promised I can pick up the car this week. After that is finalised, the last remaining jobs will be done on the race car. I still have to get some new wheels for it(looking at 16" Racing Hart wheels with ET street tyres) & would love to get the exterior painted to match the R34 blue interior, but due to funds I may have to wait till next year to finish the detail parts of the project. As far as time cards go - the race car ones dont count as the 9.45 I ran was using Elf turbomax fuel. The 12.1 from the R34 was given to Ben Ellis/Martin Donnon & I didnt get it back - check with those guys if you dont believe the time. When the new setup in the street GTR is run in & sorted, I will be racing it, & if it pulls a good time I will certainly provide proof of the run so it can be listed on this forum. In the meantime, keep up all the good work you guys & keep cruisin. PS. I was in Gold Coast the other day & caught up with Theo Wollet for a cruise around the broadwater car park on Sat night.Great to see so many Skylines there. Definately looking forward to racing up there & bringing my street car for some cruising Qld style. Cheers, John

For the past year I have been hanging out for a ride in my own GTRs!!! It has been 15 months since I dragged the race GTR!!! A simple upgrade to push it into the low nines somehow turned into a year long saga. BUT, it is getting close now. Only a few small issues to sort out & it will be fired in anger. Of course, it only has one seat, & I doubt anyone really wants to strap themselves on the floor & experience the monster this GTR has turned into. I cant wait. One of the reasons it has taken so long is I have been sidetracked with my tow ute! It's an XR6 Turbo, makes 320 rwkw, & runs 12s. Heaps of fun. The other is the street GTR. Since owning it (the one in the first issue of SPEED) I have banged the engine 3 (three) times. What to do? Better fix it eh? Now it has a new N1 block (better not crack this one), all the other fruit previously mentioned in an older thread, smaller 272 HKS cams (to make it more streetable), an OS Giken Sequential 6 speed (keeping the Holinger in the race GTR), & is currently going back together at Tilbrooks this week. Rhemac Motors built the engine last week with brand new aries pistons, gapless rings etc, & it should be a very tough (hopefully bulletproof) engine. I am going to run it in properly this time (no piston melting 290kmhr blasts) & then want it detuned from the previous 480rwkw tune to around 400rwkw. When I am happy that it is all good, we might put some good juice in it & crank up the boost to around 500rwkw & see what it does in full weight trim at the drags, but by then the race GTR should be ready, & I will probably leave it as a good street setup & keep it one piece, leaving the drag duties to the lighter, much more powerful race GTR. I have some good mates in Perth, & you guys have an excellent track. If I ever bring both cars over for a meeting, & I hope I can one day, then come up & say G,day. I owe Ant & Nathan a cruise, as they both took me for a good strap in their GTRs when I was over there with my ute for Drag Combat. Cheers, John

I ran 11.10 @127 a few years ago with low mount 2540s on std internals engine. Of course after the next meeting the internals were stuffed so didnt last long. From memory was making about 345 rwkw at that stage.(before it went bang) We did push it as high as 395 rwkw on C21, but didnt race it on that tune due to obvious reasons. On a 'built' engine, should be able to run around 400 rwkw or more with good low mounts without any problems. Of course then driveline explosions become the limiting factor.

Respect a time I say. Some people might say running a turbo is cheating!!! WTF!!! Who cares how you do it. A fast time is a fast time isn't it? As far as "street legal" goes - what a joke. A std GTSt with an aftermarket BOV or lowered suspension is not street legal but would struggle to pull a 14!!! The way i look at it, the only people that complain about certain mods that other cars have, have slower cars. If you like your car & it pulls a time that makes you happy than who cares what others say. Drag racing is a rebel sport. Why should anyone make rules up to suit themselves. Do whatever you want. Do it however you want. Bracket racing evens it all out so slower cars can still win races. Heads up (best in class) racing is for diehards that want the title no matter what. If we want to run Nos, slicks, launch control, or whatever then let us go for it without slagging us for trying to go faster. We all love Skylines dont we? We all want to see fast skylines dragging side by side. As far as tyres go, if you want to go quicker, you cant go past a drag radial for traction. Then eventually, a treaded street drag crossply like ET street is mandatory. After that there is nowhere to go but slicks - by then there is no way it is a regular street car anymore so why waste time with a DOT street tyre when you cant even drive it out to the track without getting locked up! A lot of us are out there running the numbers against cars with twice our displacement - are they cheating? No frigin way. They are just going fast for a lot less money 'cause DAMN fast Skylines are bloody expensive. Pot stirred.

A mate in Perth is selling his R33 GTR that does have N1 block, 88mm pistons & T51R SPL turbo - makes nearly 500rwkw. He wants mid 70's. Awesome car (ran 11.2 with slipping clutch) Would cost well over 100 to build a GTR like this - seems good value to me.

Wont have to hunt for long Martin. You will only have to drive as far as my garage to see my GTRs still in pieces. Are you referring to your R33 4door (with updates), or the R34 Vspec NUR you have on the way from Japan - I hope you dont touch that thing with a spanner - it will be a classic as it is. Dont neglect your one-tonner, my ute will be back soon with a few aces up it's sleeve!

I had a great time over there. Doesn't really worry me. Be good if they could send some photos tho, those dunlops I wasted were expensive.

ANDRA answers your questions!!!!!
Munro replied to Racin Jason's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
HA Ha. No, it has not had any chassis mods, but it does have an ANDRA inspected rollcage & the related safety equipment to run under 10.99 Has run 9.4 @ 153 bout a year ago & has been under development since then. Wont be ready for a couple of months, but while we are finishing it off it would be good to know what to do in relation to weight/cubic inch. These cars are very hard to run on a dial in, but on an index at least we can run under without an immediate penalty. The GTR was street registered & driven on the steet on occasion when it ran 9.4 Now it has a filled block, methanol pump, dry sump, & has been relagated to drag use only. -

A 9 sec car... is it really one
Munro replied to R31Nismoid's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
In competitive drag racing reaction time is very important.Cut a bad light & you lose. When the heat is on, a car that needs time to spool up can do so in pre-stage, then edge in to stage ready to go. But - when it is just a test & tune, u are not racing the other guy.U are looking for the best time, launch feedback, car setup etc. Particularly in a new car, it is good to not think about the light & just go when u are ready too. When testing in my GTR, I often wait for the green, check everything, build up the boost & launch when it suits me. But I dont do it all the time because it is good to practice stage/reaction time as well. U can sit on green for 5 minutes if u like. The timer does not start until u break the beam (in testing) so therefore a 9 is a 9. Comparing drag racing reaction times to street racing is really beside the point. In a car that will pull 250kays in under 10 seconds, it all happens very fast. U are not really concerned about some dude next to u pulling 12s - u just go when u are good & ready & worry about your own time. -

What is happening with weight breaks/engine capacity etc. For example - how would a Skyline weighing 3000lbs & running a 183 ci engine fit into the class (thats of course if it's ever ready!!!- the car - not the class) Will there be a penalty for running slicks/ methanol. are treaded ET 'street' tyres still classified as street tyres even though they are crossplies & not radials? As there are still relatively few 'pro' style GTRs will there be a 'heads up' style bracket until there are enough similarly setup cars that can run on a national index? I know it's still early days, but as much information as possible would be great. -
std box take more than 682 hp eh!!! what ever. Of course if u actually race your GTR with that much power than it wont last long - & of course Ants broke at DC(he was expecting it) & he put in a PPG same day & came back & ran 10.7. What a machine. I went for a lap in the car the next day - it is a beast for sure. Good on you mate - great to see some tough GTRs while I was in the west.
-
I enjoyed the day(In fact my whole trip has been excellent) Good to see so many Skylines there. Had fun in the XR6T - but was spewin the GTR wasn't ready to bring(next time for sure) Went for ride in Ant's R32 last night - is one strong car. As for Nathans T51R & Jasons R34, well - thats drag racing. Its very hard when up into the big power levels.Everything has to be perfect. The gtr is only as strong as the weakest link.In Nathans it was the tyres & the slipping twin plate.T51R will be a 10 sec car when sorted.Jason cracked his diff cover. Overall I had a great time, met heaps of people & destroyed a new set of tyres! See you guys next time.

Ah, that what I said Matt. A chick rolled a torana & it was spinning on its roof thru the traps - IN PERTH, ON SAT NIGHT. Thats why I mentioned it, cause a similar thing happened in Adelaide on the same night. BTW - Cheeky is a 'sweet ass' not a 'bad ass'

Go Leewah, another 9 second GTR coming up. Cool. Ant's GTR is a weapon. We had a good run on the Kwinana Fwy last night after the drags & that thing hauls ass. Nigels GTR is covered in stone chips from following him at speed. My ute was making a 3rd lane next to em to keep em honest. I am very impressed with the track over here.Fantastic facility. Cant wait to get the GTR finished & race it here. I'll just have to put up with racing the tow ute till then (did 12.7 @ 115 last night)

I reckon about 6-8 weeks for the race GTR. We are waiting on brackets for the dry sump pump from queensland, & a timing belt from Japan. Once we get them we can engine dyno the engine(which is ready to go), then finish off the undertrays, mount the radiator in the boot, & it should be ready. One of the reasons it has taken so long is I was pouring $ into the street car instead of the race car, but now that is bust again we are full steam on the race car. I am in Perth at the moment.Went to the comp meet on Sat. Saw jet cars running 5.0s, a rail running 5.0, a swag of doorslammers in the 6s, & a torana roll at the deep end.It went spinning on its roof with sparks flying everywhere thru the traps. Was a chick driving too. I am racing the ute at the Wed night street drags tonight, then will be racing at Drag combat on Sat. Should be fun.If I cant race my GTR then I will race my tow car.At least I still get to do burnouts.

Hmmm. I didn't expect to see a thread about this on here! I agree that a car runs what it runs & thats it. I think the XR6 Turbos are great (if you need a family car or a ute) They are good value, look excellent & come in top colours. I always intended to lightly modify my ute, but did not want to go too far as it is my daily driver & tow vehicle. I visited Greg & Simon from Nizpro & I was very impressed with their kits & R&D they had done. My biggest problem with the std XR6T was the lack of bottom end torque & the poor throttle response. I decided on the Cobra stage II kit for my ute & after fitting it & seeing the difference it made, I know I made the right decision. In fact, I was so impressed, I have since then (along with Mark Tilbrook) taken on the SA dealership for these Cobra kits. We have already sold 2 other stage II kits (one which has been fitted BY A FORD DEALER - who love the product & are fully behind us warranty wise)& both these guys love their new skid machines. My tow ute (which has no other mods inc std exhaust & cat) has run a 12.63 @ 113.6 mph on std rubber & is completey docile to drive everyday. It has a genuine 350kw. Pity they are so bloody heavy. And forget about handling.Buts that what you get with our local cars - a good compromise for the masses. That why I love Skylines. No compromise. Only the best handling, braking, interiors etc will do. Not to mention tuning potential - the sky is the limit.(probably why they called them Skylines.) XR6Turbos are good - but Skylines RULE the streets.

10 points for keeping at it Matt. You will get faster - Nittos will definately help heaps.

The annual SAU Dyno Day - Register your interest NOW
Munro replied to Steve's topic in South Australia
Sounds like you guys had a good day. I couldnt make it 'cause I had to work. I did make it out to the drags tho. Ran a 12.63 @ 113 in the ute! Only saw 2 skylines out there (Matts Trust6 - keep trying mate, you'll get traction one day, & another nice looking silver one running 14s) The air was nice and cool. Next one is on Sat 3rd april - I think.
