Nozilla... Check if there is a constant live to the contacts. If there is then simply borrow/bridge the earth of another light that only comes on when you first turn the ignition.

Those that wish to give it a crack by all means give it a crack; it will be fine providing cars are stock. SAU is now in the eye of at the very least the Port Adelaide police that previously was never the case. SAU has changed. In the past cruises were low key and avoided such area's as town, anzac dragway as well as parking it up in the BP and other various 'publicly visible' locations. But such is life.. be smart where, when and who you drive with and there will be no issues. Those of us who have been around a little more know there is little point in trying to develop a relationship when you own a modified car. If I were a police officer and honestly I have given it serious thought; I would definitely defect cars that have illegal modifications especially if cruising out down Port Road, Town and Anzac highway on a Fri/Sat night and be concerned for the very reasons Martin has outlined. Not to mention jump at the opportunity to possibly clean up a little of the high powered Skylines on the road as lets be frank there are quite a few in here especially when you look back through previous dyno threads. Accidents and stupid behavior my self included when I was younger honestly scares the crap out of me when I see youngans with 200rwkw+ odd cars. :S If you are unsure what mods are legal etc speak to vehicle standards. I've always found them to be quite good apart from when you begin to delve in to Emission testing. But boys/girls.. Give it a crack there's no point stepping back now, just be sure to let others know exactly what it means to attend an event/cruise that police are notified of. Already been said by my self. I'll stop repeating, thats it from me.

Boof, Unfortunately I can't really see that happening. Its only going to get worse for the imports as a clean R33 can now be picked up for dirt cheap by an 18year old. Combine the above with the suggestion that young males tend to take unnecessary risks as a result of brain development not being complete. In lamens the risk taking area of their brain is not fully developed until ~mid 20's. This is where/why the hoon stigma has developed. Young males have the tendency to make silly decisions when driving in traffic, built up area's, in car parks etc as such they are classified as a hoon. Next time you hear a car accelerate hard in a car park have a look at the driver. 9/10 times it will be a young male. The 'older' hoons so to speak tend to be a little more wise where they put the foot down; they tend to go WOT on open roads with very little to no traffic. Some are the exception obviously but generally older males are more responsible where and when they open it up. Not saying its still right just simply stating how it is. If your not a believer of the young males and risk taking activities do a little research; the first time I came across the suggestion was back at uni when studying Psychology. Now its starting to run OT but still related in a round about way. All that can be done is SAU earns its self a good rep and those that conduct them selves in a poor manner are BANISHED. lol.

Ahh but they do.. VL Turbo's are harassed to no end. Simply because the cars are so easily to obtain power from and so easy to make modifications to. Its the nature of the car. A cheapish turbo car will always be harassed as it is a performance car easily modified and can be a deadly weapon in the hands of an inexperienced driver.

Addressed by Ruby. In addition you may drive around depending on the area you live/drive for many years with engine modifications and may not be defected. Attend an event that you know police provide inspections and one would have to be silly. Really nothing more needs to be said on this matter I feel its cleared up.

Now I'm at work and got some brekky in to me. Its all good Ruby/Nene props for the efforts. As long as people are well aware hood popping may occur regardless if people behave then all will be fine. Its then up to the individual if they wish to take the risk when attending a sapol notified cruise/event. But all is good. As long as people are well aware there shouldn't be too many problems or whining when they do get defected. However over time as a relationship builds it may get to the point where SAU is left alone and inspections are a thing of the past. Providing every one is well behaved.

Now your heads spinning. Regardless of your previous post stating to expect hood popping on the 'odd' occasion if they're given cause to its along the lines of what Nene stated. As you have 'now' stated its not going to be regular but will occur on the odd occasion. When organising events where Neil will be invited please make sure this is is in bold right up the top as it is unfair for those who don't know any better to cruise along with their car that is tastefully modified only to have it defected as it has engine modifications. As I stated above Ruby; its mega easy to tell if a car has a highflow, so simply looking out for those that might be unnecessarily stung.

Apologies if I offended. Must admit I missed Ruby's post and only remembered the clear that up when Neil joins. Rubys post states if they are given cause to which is the way it has always been in the past. Cruises etc usually go untouched providing every one is well behaved and there are no complaints from the public. So is it not going to be a regular thing or will it only be if they are given cause to?

Exactly, however Ruby is stating is that Neil shows respect for those that 'maintain' and have modifications performed by pro's as it cuts out the backyarder aspect out which 'can' be extremely dangerous. There's no way of policing the backyarder so by simply stating if mods performed are by a pro (providing the mod is not a major mod) then you won't be bent over for stupid little things if it is suspected your car is just a 'little' unroadworthy. i.e slightly too low, tint or slightly loud exhaust. If the Police decide to do a random inspection at one of the events regardless if people are behaving (which really should have been cleared up at the meeting) those with anything around the turbo area (different turbo elbow, different actuator etc) that doesn't look stock will be pinged. Suspected different turbo is considered a major mod. Lets be honest, its Neil job to keep the roads clean and safe. High powered street cars can be extremely dangerous in the wrong hands. Neil isn't to know if your daily 500hp+ car only see's full throttle at Mallala or down Anzac Dragway/Port road fri/sat nights. Which brings me to highflows. Its easy to tell if a RB20/Rb25DET has a highflow. RB26DETT not so. All it takes is a little measurement between the comp cover and turbine housing (from underneath). A trained eye and torch can pick it near instantly without having to measure. So don't think your safe if you have a GT28,gt30 or slide t3/4 shoved in to your comp/turbine covers as its easily picked. Unless your running the std turbo with only an intercooler, pod and exhaust its just a matter of time before they catch on and your pinged for 'engine modifications'

Paper delivery Vans, Taxi's and some couriers apply for an exemption, even then it has to be 'approved'. Taxi's are kitted out by an approved fitter etc.. Regardless there is no 'need' to have pillar gauges and they can cause serious harm. Its just one of those mods that we should think twice before fitting.

Completely agree... I have done ALL the work on mine apart from tuning. The bits that required specialised welding I had an engineering shop do. However... This is off track from what Ruby was stating. You can't disagree there's a hell of a lot of dodgy p-plater mods out there. I've seen a lot in my time when helping out people here and there. -- Regardless my one and only concern for you lot is will random hood popping still occur even if good behavior is displayed.

lol well yeah I could be way off track. Its how I understood Ruby's post. Show receipts of maintenance and mods (leave those high flow receipts out) and it shows a level of seriousness when it comes to ensuring your car is safe and roadworthy. Most fit highflows when they fix their turbo. Ensuring the rest of the car is up to spec at least shows your not neglecting the rest of the car. IMO.. Let me know Ruby if this is what you were referring to?

lol that comment brought a smile to my face. Its not about being defected because you have fitted your own brakes its about a car being 'safe'. I am generalising slightly don't take the word 'brakes' as exactly what i am talking of. I am sure Neil has pulled of a heap of cars that have been modified, have their pads on the squeak wear indicators and bald tyres. I edited my post as you replied.. Having 400hp+ under the right foot isn't going to make the car dangerous in its self. It may be perfectly road worthy in a sense of tyres, brakes etc If thats the case its the driver that will make the car dangerous. Completely different ball game when your talking fitment of brakes, suspension etc. Making sure the car is serviced and roadworthy etc what I believe Ruby was getting it. I don't believe a work shops would fit a set of Bendix Advance brake pads to a 400+hp skyline. Im sure plenty back yard mechanics have.

tx3_90. Unfortunately your request is simply not possible. One could replace brake pads and top up their brake fluid with auto trans fluid (father in law did this). Yet another will replace brake pads and forget to fit the locking pin, another changes their brakes without problems. It all comes down to the 'individual' doing the work. The point ruby was getting at is that if you have proof your car is worked on by professionals its less likely your car is unroad worthy in a dangerous sense. Hopefully ground has been made. I was under the impression the main concern hence reason for the meeting was hood popping even if everyone was well behaved. Regardless the meeting has showed a level of maturity and leadership which is a good thing for SAU. My query will be sorted out soon if Neil decides to take SAU up on the invitation.

So random hood popping will occur at future events even if everyone is well behaved, or was that a 'going to be regular' thing that is 'no longer going to be a regular thing' due to the recent correspondence/meetings? Almost ran out of breath saying that. Not that it really bothers me as mine so far from stock its not worth driving on the road. Its a liability not worth taking the risk for. Not worth driving a modified car on the road when all it takes is one silly accident; some one is injured and all insurance is void as a result of modifications that are picked up on. Good to clear up for the rest of the SAU mugs though.

Pretty much spot on how I thought it would turn out. IMO it was definitely worth the effort to find out exactly where sau stood before accepting what was said on the stag cruise and not clarifying the details. So the question begs... Will hood popping occur on the 'odd' occasion? Agreed on the back yarder mods. Some are just plain dodgy and don't know when enough is enough and to seek the advice of a professional.

Went to the Monster Trucks last night; free family ticket. Glad we didn't pay. :S Extremely disappointed with the show. WEAK is the word. Wayville showgrounds is a terrible venue to host Monster trucks as they are not allowed to rip up the grass so they are stuck to the outer ring which has limited space so no decent jumps races etc. One rolled it which was cool to watch but apart from that it was an extremely weak show compared to MT events held at other Venues.

A little common sense would tell one that a leaking manifold gasket is going to create boost control problems.

Trent, I was concerned with the BKR's due to them being 2.5mm shorter. I measured it all up and dummy fitted with the boot off - no issues with contact, the spring still compresses a lot. Running bkr7e's i've ran up to 25psi and had no issues with my 300,000km+ 17yr old Nissan coils. I previously ran BCPR6E's but they were coming out looking too hot. 7's look just right for the power its making. I've also ran a supposive race NGK copper plug forget the part number. The electrode was a flush type. If anything it felt like it lost a little low/mid range until it got up on boost. Must admit the only reason I went with BKR7E's is I was unable to find BCPR7E's anywhere Its all in the head but I swear the V-Grooves (non-S) work/feel a little better.

Your missing the point. Its primary purpose is to VENT the sump not return oil. Vent the sump and you won't have to worry about the pressure from the sump picking up oil and blowing it in to your catch can. If your can starts filling with track use mines baffles are a bandaid/waste of $$. Fix the problem properly; restrict the oil flowing to the head 'slightly' and vent the sump. Problem solved, or at the very minimum vent the sump it will make a world of difference. Have a good think 'WHY' your catch can is filling..... Sump pressurises due to combustion gasses leaking past the rings at WOT Where is that pressure going to vent? Its going to push up the heads oil return galley in to the cam covers. On its way it passes oil going in the opposite direction picking up a little, heating and slowing the oil return. As it slows the oil return more oil stays in the head excasabating the problem of too much oil in the head. Combine that with constant RPM and you have oil pooling in the top end; the pressure blows out your breathers and starts to fill the catch can. As I said; vent the sump to the catch can; run a nice 3/4" hose and you won't have issues. Make sure the catch can has baffles/steel wool etc to prevent any oil vapor soiling the cans vent and possibly having scrutineers pull you up on it if its bad enough. The sump return as you put it is not a oil return; think of it as a sump vent. The cam cover breathers will then do very minimal work if any as all the pressure will be released from the sump and not from the cam covers.
