  1. A simple example of devaluing of imports: 1991 Oz GTR in 2000 was selling (if u could get one) for about the $70-80k mark, since the greay import market has been allowed, they are now under $40k. The first Grey R33 GTR's were all +$60k, now we say good luck getting $40k....this is a 50% depreciation in 2 years. Even new cars are not dropping that fast!!! EVO 6.5 Makkinen editions were being sold by Mitsubishi Oz for $82k, yet you could get a grey import for under $60k at the same time or a EVO7 for $70k. It is not just the 15 year law that affects value, but I have noticed that R33's and R34's are hard to come by at the moment so they are holding values, have a look at the end of this year after the RAWS comes through and they start arriving back into the country, the price WILL drop as demand is outstripped by demand. The 15yo rule is only going to make things worse as there will be many cheap cars on the market. If there are 1989 GTR's in apparently good nick going for $20k, do you honestly think people will be able to sell their R33 GTR's for +$40k ? I do not think so as you could get a spare GTR and have 2 for one. This will ultimatly drop the prices on ALL skylines. The R33/34 GTR's will be lower. MArk my words, you will be able to buy a R33 GTR in good nick for $25-30k and a R34 GTR for $50-65k within 18 months. Have you counted how many R32-34 GTR's are for sale in this months Unique Auto or Trading Post ? I have seen these cars there for months, they will either drop their prices or hold onto their cars, but the fact remains they are NOT selling. The skyline/exotic import is going to become a common sight and thus it will be less desirable and will loose its value due to excess supply. Yes there will remain the die hard fans, but do not forget that there are many other desirable cars that we have not seen yet that will also affect the values overall. Please understand that I am not saying that the 15yo law is going to be the sole cause of devaluing all imports, it will only create a glut of old cars. It will devalue ALL 10yo+ second hand cars as there will be more choice. I have had first hand experience with this problem. I am trying to sell a Oz 1998 Pajero SWB, this car was the best SWB 4x4 you could get, it had street cred as it was bloody fast for a 4x4. Grey importers are now bringing in convertable ones with less milage and I have seen this vehicle drop from $28k this time last year to $20k now as people now have more choice and want a convertable that are growing on trees in import dealer yards. You may be critical of me using these examples, but wait until you are trying to sell whatever car second hand.....prepare to take a bath. The only winners in all of this are the Shipping companies and the government getting our taxes. Just my 2c worth Mal
  2. I think DOTARS have a severe case of NFI !!! I want them to scrap the 15 year law and will not be sending my letter, but as this great country is an apparent democracy, everyone that disagrees with me can send a letter to someone who does not give a sh*t.....it will make bugger all difference anyway. Like they say opinions are like assholes.........and most smell like sh*t....so they must be. This is just a BS way for DOTARS to cover their asses by repairing this mistake. The only solution to this problem is to only allow the RAWS approved guys who have been granted plated to import 15yo cars. My solution is if a RAWS importer has a R33 or 34 plate, they should be allowed to import I can see both points of the argument, but I do not think that under 21's should have access to <$22k GTR's, this is just an accident waiting to happen. If you cannot afford to buy a skyline now cause of the purchase price, wait till you get the quote on the insurance. I assure you all that keeping the 15yo rule WILL devalue all imports. Will significantly increase insurance for imports. Will cause us more crap with the cops,as these cars will most likely be modded and show ponies. There are plenty of great cars available in Oz, you do not need Jap trash. Japs are notorious for NOT maintaining their cars, they only do what they need for Shekken. :flamed: Flame suite on:flamed: Mal
  3. I think you might find the fuel hoses will not cope with the heat that will come from the turbo. It should be ok for a sort run up to auto one to get better (heat resistant) hoses. Just my 2c worth of advice Mal
  4. I have found another product, but cannot find much info on it. Anyone ever heard of the Dancer ATTESA controller ? www.grid.co.jp/prod/tu/prod21.htm This may be an alternative to the HKS ETC. Ta Mal
  5. The car is a 260RS Stagea 1999 model. This runs the same drivetrain and engine (except its a 5 speed) as the R34 GTR V-Spec (so I am told). I have read here and other places that you can only make these RWD by removing the drive shafts. I do not want to go through all removal of driveshafts etc just to get RWD. I believe that the HKS ECT may be the only solution....... I just think there should be a better way to trick the ECU. Ta Mal
  6. From what I have read, the GTR's transfer of power to the front wheels are controlled by the cars computers. I believe it looks at G forces, Rear wheel slip, throttle position, etc all to determin within 1/100th of a second if and how much power to send to the front wheels. I wonder why we need to buy expensive jap gear to allow the car to run whatever torque split you need(0/100-50/50. I remember early EVO lancers had a thumb wheel to allow you to set the split, but it appears with the GTR this is not possible without special hydrolic devices. Can anyone please tell me why this is so ? Why can you not get some little electronic gizmo that will allow some ajustment or blocking of the front wheel torque. And for the people that ask....I want to be able to drift easier. Ta Mal
  7. Ok I have 5 confirmed: Mejanal red900ss Carlo Kinks SW20-GT As mentioned if you want one, please let me know, they only take a few mins to burn, and as mentioned I will check this tread b4 i leave so I have the right amount. Ta Mal
  8. no prob, i will bring 5, as i have 4 for the guys above and one extra. I will check this list before I leave and bring any extras that are requested tomorrow. Ta Mal
  9. Another suggestion is to see if the heater core is blocked. Run the car to operating temp. You should see 2 water hoses running into the cabin (not aircon) they both should be hot. if only one is hot, then the core may be blocked. just a suggestion :0-) Ta Mal
  10. Thanks guys, I am always a bit wary of any car that has come from snow covered areas, but I had never heard of salting the roads in japan, I just wanted to make sure. Thanks for the answers Ta Mal
  11. I will b there at the pizza place.......wont have dinner as pizza is not on my menu, but a garlic bread and a coke is. Cya at 7:30 Mal
  12. ill b there with a few copies of the drift day dvd. How many ? Mal
  13. Fatz, I did not know there was an official video of the event. I did not want to step on any toes by making my own video. I am happy to supply my footage to whoever is the official videographer for them to use if required. Please let me know if there is any issue with my video.... Ta Mal
  14. I was wondering if they sale the roads in Japan during winter to avoid Ice on the roads ? The reason I ask is if I need to carefully check the underside for rust on an import from the north of japan I am looking at. Thanks Mal
  15. The video will not compress anymore. It is in MPEG2 format for DVD, so there is no more compression. I figure it is better to have decent quality video, I can rip it in most formats, but they are either larger or their quality sux. Ta Mal
  16. Ok guys, I think the best thing to do is arrange to meet and I will hand out DVD's of the event. As mentioned it is HiRes (740Mb) and it looks like it will be too large for most people without cable...etc to download. Please let me know how many copies you want. I will only charge $5 each which will cover the cost of the DVD disk. We will look at meeting up next Thursday night as I am busy most of next week. Please make sure you put in your orders. I do not want to be stuffing around sending these things out, but I am also willing to help the guys out that are not on the northern beaches. If you can get a mate to pickup your copy. Please also be aware that everyone's cars are not shown as I was following the guys that were northsiders/SAU/ worst/best drivers. All the guys who PM'ed me (silver S15, Daz,Mat, Geoff, Pete) are all there. Ta Mal
  17. Ok, I have done the video, Its 18min long.....but its 740MB in Size for the hires and 92mb for the lowres. My home cable connection will only upload at @16k, so if someone has somewhere to host, please let me know, I will send it to you to host. Looks good with great music. Let me know if you wanna host it. Ta Mal
  18. Guys, I have decided that there are way to many cars to just give each person their car as it would take me hours just to get one car pulled out of 2 hrs of footage. What I will do is make up a proper SAU NSW drift day video, put some music to it and some titles. I will then rip it into hires and low res versions. I hope this will suite everyone, I think it is a bit more fun. P.S does anyone know the guy who banged his R31, I do not want to use this footage unless he lets me as he might want to try to claim insurance.....and this footage may stop his chances. P.S I have the whole incident...... I do not care about the POS bommadore as I would doubt anyone would bother insuring it. Ta Mal
  19. I agree.... I have been to most types of motorsport, and I found that one of the most intresting and enjoyable days I have ever had. The day was well done and I will be driving in the next one. Thanks to Aaron McGill and all the guys who stood in the sun and rain to keep the event flowing.
  20. People, I got about 2 hrs of decent quality video from the drift day today. If you want some video of your car please tell me exactly which car you want. It is going to take several hours of ripping, so do not expect any 48hr turnaround, it might not been untill next week as I have a life and wife. I will onlt give these people who OWN the car at todays event, if you want a copy I will make them available to everyone (the guys who dinged their cars please let me know if you want this made public domain.) Please PM me if you want YOUR video. P.S I was the one with the tripod in the stand all day ta Mal
  21. i had a similar problem and the cause was the master cylinder was not put together wrong. one of the rubber seals was around the wrong way causing the fluid to bypass the first part of the piston, it had very similar problems to what you have described. I would get them to check it out, they also may have pinched a seal when assembling. Get them to pull the master cylinder apart again. Ta Mal
  22. Guys are we meeting in the Back (RTA) or front (Macca's) carpark at forestway ? Ta Mal
  23. thanks Sebaz, I might take you up on that offer, but I think I will need the R34 model. The 260RS I am getting is a 1999 model so I believe it has the R34 GTR motor in it. Once I get the car next month I will be able to check what it has as info is thin on the ground as to what these beasties have in them Ta mal
  24. I do not know why we do not see the 1998 Legnum and Galant VR4 over here. When I was in NZ they were everywhere.....twin turbo.......under $20k....mmmmm
  25. In NSW the SOPS (cops Standard operating procedure) is that the no longer radar within 200m of a change of speed sign (except school zones) or on a downhill section. This is only the case if you are doing say 80 in a 60 zone with in 200m of the speed change.....but if you are doing 100, you WILL be booked.
