  1. Now in NSW highway cops are getting video camera's in there cars. They can pickup audio from conversations you are having IF they are directly behind you. Be warned....ask if you are being recorded, before you say anything.
  2. Jason, Thank you for the link, it is a very good site. I think the admins should put this up as a permenant link for others to see. I agree that you should seek legal advice if you are not experienced with the ways of the law. I guess I am lucky that I have friends who are cops and lawyers who like to chat about this subject and help me out if needed. All the best 4doorgtr....aka Mal
  3. just thought I would let you knowabout my quote from Famous. 32yo Male, rating 1 for 12 years no claims, nothern beaches sydney Stagea 260RS with all the GTR V-Spec goodies for $55k agreed value....and the premium....$2200...this is for business use and no garage, but it needs either 6 point imobiliser or tracker.
  4. I do have pics, but I do not know how to attach them into the forum. It is a grade 4.5/5 Pearl white 260RS with 42k. It has I believe 17" Nisom wheels, but other than that its stock. No final price, but it will be in the $50k- $55k with 12 months rego, new tires. I will be seeing it at the end of this month and will hopefully have it by the end of Feb. Might even take it to the SAU drags at eastern creek and see if it is the fastest wagon in the world :-) P.S I cannot seem to get the SAU NSW membership form as the link is broken in Pete's sig. Can someone point me to it, or email it to [email protected] Thanks
  5. I think that you are judging the VW girl a little harshley. One of my staff attended this accident (RFS) and said the conditions were bad, it was inexpierience, weather and peer pressure. We have all done stupid things in our lives, sometimes we are lucky sometimes we are not. This girl was smart enough to not drink after the nominated driver of the VW was seen drinking as was the owner. She had the common sence to not drink and was the one who drove. At 17yo on you P's in a unfamiliar car, in the wet with your "friends" saying it will be OK and they have done it heaps of times would not help. The reason for the crash was not speed or alchol related, but weight distribution. All the weight was on the back wheels and the car just understeered at 50km into a sandstone wall on a blind corner. While the results were tradgic, the parents of the 2 dead boys thought the court had made the right decision, and told the judge that. Comparing it with a young P plater in a turbo car racing along pittwater road is BS. This kid will suffer the full hit of the law as well as the life long memory of a guy being spread alover his car. For him it is a no win situation, I would rather have the police results than the life long memory of killing some person doing a VERY stupid thing. I know this piece of road well and it is nice a straight, but there is a time and place for everything and the only person responsible is the driver and probably his mates for egging him on to drag. Peer pressure is a very bad thing and many young people have been killed as a result. I honestly thing Red and Green P and L platers should NOT have turbo or V8 cars as they just amplify the result of inexperienced driving. If you have a old abrina it will take them 20 sec to get to 100km, in a turbo or V8 it is under 10 sec. This can make a huge difference in residential streets with inexperienced drivers in hipo cars. Flame suite on from all the P platers who disagree, but IT IS FACT that 30% of accidents are from 8% of the population (<19yo). IT is also proven that female drivers are LESS inclined to drag and drive hipo cars. This is why there are differences in insurance, police attitudes and court rulings.
  6. I am abouts to buy a Stagea 260RS and I am just a bit concerned with the availability of parts for this car. I know the drivetrain will not be a problem as it is just a GTR under the bonnet, but I was wondering about panels and bits that are not drive train related. Is the gray import market setup in such a way that anything is reasonably available ? If I have a accident, I do not want to be waiting 10 weeks for a guard, bonnet etc, but I guess it should be the insurance companies problem not mine. I do not want something so rare that I cannot get anything for it in this country. Thanks
  7. I would not agree 100% about Southo's comments. Prima Facie is what Radars,LIDAR, speed cameras and hwy patrol speedos are presented as in court. This means that you cannot challange the accuracy of their readings unless you can prove they were incorectly used. A cop saying they booked you for doing X,Y or Z does not mean it is prima facie evidence, it can be contested and won in court without leagle advice. We are not talking about Criminal or civil court, we are talking about infringement notices, they are easily challanged, its just most people cop the fine and do not take it further. The problem is cops are issueing more tickets for minor infringments to keep the statistics on proving they are doing their job. It is up to the officer to use his discresion to decide if to issue a ticket. One thing that really pi55es off a Magistrate is people bringing minor "warning only" type offences to court, the Magistrate will have a go at the police for wasting the time of the court and plantif (you). Do not believe the hype about taking a ticket to court, I would like to see the stats for people who are sucessful at winning their cases about unfair infringement notices, I bet they would be above 60%. There is never a "conviction" or Trial in infringements, they are no different to parking fines. Drink Driving is a conviction type offence, this is why you must go to court to face the music, unlike a speeding ticket or parking fine.
  8. I am still waiting for my car to get off the boat....Can I just come along as a spectator ? I do not mind paying for food....I have a helmet if I can be a passenger with someone. Please PM me the details to pay. Thanks Mal
  9. When I was a mechanic I was test driving a GTI Golf that had a bad missfire above 100km. There was no areas near the shop that were 100 zones so I was blasting about 100 in a 80 zone (burnt bridge creek (syd, manly). Got done by a hidden hwy cop. He pulled me over and when he was walking to the car I got out in dirty white overalls. He drew his gun and I shat myself. I am 6'5" and 120kg...he was not big at all and I think he shat himself also. Anyway we had a chat and a laugh and he let me off because I was nice and admitted that I was speeding to test the car. It took me 3 smokes to calm down after being at the wrong end of a gun. Remember the cops do not know who you are when you get pulled over. If you make sudden moves or reach across to get your license, they do not know this. You are better to wait till they come to your window and tell them your license is wherever in the car and slowly reach for it. I never sit in the car when pulled over as the cops want to look down at you and assume the power in this situation. I always get out and lean non agressivly againsty my car and wait for them. Remember there are plenty of stories about cops being shot for a simple pullover by some crazed person. Cops will always be over cautious. A few tips are: NEVER get agressive, be witty or sarcastic but never angry, no matter what you may or may not have done. Always question the cops, but never reveal information except for your name and address Never tell the cops that you will fight a ticket, just do it. When it goes to court it may be 6-12 months later and they will have long forgotten you and will only have one or two lines in their notebooks about you, and will need to fill in the blanks on memory. If you tell them you will fight the ticket, they will write down everything you said and corroberate their stories. cops do not have their partners for any lenght of time so they usually will write their statements apart from eachother. If it is one cop only, even better its your word against theres, and believe me the cop is NOT always right in court. I have had two tickets canceled because the 2 cops could not coroberate their stories. The magistrate belittled both officers for harassing me.......I was guilty, but that is irelivant :-) If you do not have a tape recorder, write EVERYTHING the cops and you said after the cops have gone as this will help you jog your memory. Details such as the road conditions, traffic, time of day, the way you were booked, any cars around you etc. Also when you go to court in NSW you do not need a lawyer, unless it is a major offence, you should be able to fight it yourself. You will receive ALL the police statements, your driving history and any evidence they will present, all you have to give them is a dirty look and SFA. you will then have time to read and pick apart the police statements and if there are any discrepancies, you should stand up in court once you are asked to present your case and ask that the charges be dropped because of lack of evidence and non matching police statements. Be ultra polite to the magistrate and try to see him rule on other cases before you front up to judge his attitude. Never be scared of court, its not that bad, its actually fun to see apparent justice at work. Sorry for the mixed post, but I hate to see people booked wrongly. These leagle opinions are not from a lawyer, but my experiences in the NSW police and court systems. I must have been pulled over 50+ times, booked 10x and only worn 3 tickets. YOU CAN WIN, TRY IT....If you loose, I think its $45+ fine...but I have not lost yet.
  10. I have a JDM Galant VR4 (15 year import) and it has plastic weathershields on all the windows. I have had heaps of people ask what they are. I have been told they are for Snow and also cuz most japs smoke they can with the windows a crack down. I have also noticed that alot of Jap imports also have these weathshields..... can anyone tell me what they are for ? Ta
  11. unless you are a full license holder, your chances are buggered or none. The only hope at 17 is to write a sob story that you must have your license to drive your disabled mother to hospital or similar. You will need a provable sob story, but I do not rate your chances. P.S do not try to drive once suspended or it is an automatic 2 years.
  12. Chris, to answer your question of Cairns and how to say it... Its Kan-z P.S DO NOT SCUBA DIVE UP THERE....We seem to be able to get Yank tourist out to the reef....but we forget to bring them back.
  13. I have been driving for 15 years and had comp insurance for all but the first 2 years (3rd party). I have NEVER made a claim on car insurance, but I would recommend that it is worth the piece of mind cuz I know as soon as I do nto have it, I will need it. I just paid $10,000 for 10 cars in my company fleet....that hurts. P.S NRMA fleet will insure a 96 GTR with agreed value of $50k for $2200...... seems good to me...might get one now.
  14. My wife arrived in a white strrrreeaaach porche (same one in Oz Idol) and we left in a black porche boxter.........god boxters are a piece of crap....but it looked great. How about a fleet of GTR's ?
  15. ITs all just american crap with a racecar drivetrain.......Japs,itallians and germans are the only ones who know how to build cars
  16. In NSW the police have a code of conduct and must follow procedures. I have got off several tickets on technicallities, it pays to know. As with zroys I also have a digital tape, but I advise the cops that I am recording the conversation to be replayed in court at a later time. So far that line has gotten me off 5 times with warnings. While I am a habitual speeder, I am also a safe driver. I think more people would be better drivers if they had their eyes on the road not the speedo. I say to EVERYONE fight any ticket you think you diddnt (or did) deserve, thats why we are in a democracy. While we "may" be doing something illegal (speeding), that does not give the cops to book you ilegally, two wrongs never make a right.
  17. I read that they have BANNED cars from getting fuel from the airport. It was because of some tax BS that is not on the fuel there..... Anyone heard of this ? I also think BP ultimate is the besty as I will rather pay +7c p/l for BP than +9c p/l for Optimax
  18. I could not AGREE more with your comments about areas that shold not speed through such as schools and residential areas. Unfortunatly there is not enough traffic speeding in quite residential areas so the cops do not setup their revenue devices where they can make more money setting up on a 3 lane road through an industrial site with a 50k limit and claim they are being a deterrant because it is dangerous....yeah right Speed is not dangerous, lack of driving skill to match the conditions is the problem. The OZ road toll is not really high compared to most civilised countries, but the lack of attention our government plays in educating drivers is pathetic. Cars are being made safer, they can handle, brake and drive yet we do not teach our young and existing car license holders how to drive properly. We just book them and take their money and licenses away from them. We should work on the 20% rule for all over 60k and above zones. leave the school and 50k residential a fixed speed, but a 70 zone, you could drive 84, 100 = 120 but it would depend on the conditions. This would move traffic and stop people being glued to their speedp's and get them watching the road....this may help their driving. Ta
  19. sigs, I have reread my posts and nowhere do i mention camera. I still maintain my first impression of you as having NFI on this subject. LIDAR is not a laser but a beam of IR light. At 250m the size of the spot is about 2ft. Aiming a lidar at your numberplate is quite easy. There is a red dot on the lidar screen that needs to be pointing at the numberplate. I have several HP coppers as mates and I have found out a lot about their procedures. I assure you that tilting your number plate WILL reduce your lidar and to a small effect radar signature. If you want to avoid cameras you can get a majic spray that willl overexpose speed camera pics of your plate, but that is another thread. Ta
  20. While Radar detectors may be illegal in most states, they have to find it. The law states that if the police suspect you have a RD they are NOT allowed to remove anything fixed on the car and they have 15 mins to find it. There are several remote units available on the market that are completly hidden and cannot be discovered unless you pull the front bumper off. These RD will work fine behind a plastic (glass, polymer) just not metal. They are not cheap, but will rarley false alarm in the city cuz they are tuned to the same frequency as the police radar. They are also undetectable. I was once pulled over and they knew I has a RD cuz I braked when they pullsed me. I had time to give the external unit to my mate. I got away with a caution :-) This is not possible now because of knife search laws (NSW only?) that gives cops the right to search for no reason. Having a RD in NSW is a finable offence ($1500 if in operation), not an arrestable offence, so they cannot impound or defect you car so they can search it further This information is based on my experiences and is based on NSW regulations. Ta
  21. I have many active protection that I will not mention onlist. I you spend the money you get the protection. My $1000 investment in technology has been returned 100 x over the past 5 years. If you are careful you can be 99.999% protected. The best radar detector I have ever used is other drivers. If you watch traffic 100m infront you can spot them braking telling you there is a speedtrap. Even moron drivers seem to spot cops and will brake even when doing the speed limit. Thanks for the support guys, I am so glad I live in NSW with all the signs warning of Speedcameras, and now the camera cars need to be fully marked.....makes them very easy to spot.....:-)
  22. Sigs, I bet you are an angel on the road and never speed.......yeah right, do not BS this list. It sounds like you have a bad case of NFI. The number plate IS the first spot the cops will aim their Lidar and tilting it down will prevent it reflecting back to the Lidar. Do not slag something you seem to have no idea about just for the sake of sharing your opinion.
  23. Hello all, I thought I would share ideas that can be used to minimise your Radar/Lidar signature from Police speed traps. While I do not condone speeding, sometimes a few seconds can make all the difference :Bang: If anyone else has any good ideas please post. Tips: Tilt your front numberplate down about 10 deg. This is the first place a cop will aim his lasergun at your car. Lidar is just invisable light and needs to be reflected back to the gun and a small tilt can make a huge difference. Do not wash the front of your car. This may seem crazy, but it will reduce the signature of the car from Lidar. The not so passive tricks: If you have a black car, you can get some really good stealth paint, although it is matt black it will absorb Radar and not reflect Lidar http://www.laserveil.com/radar-detectors-l...-veil-overview/ thought it would be of intrest. Ta
  24. As I mentioned before, I have ordered a black Autech 260RS Stagea. These have the same mechanicals as a R33 GTR VSPEC, but I have been told they are over 310BHP as Autech have tweeked them over a standard GTR. Having seen a Stagea up close they are nothing special to look at, 1993 Volvo wagon would be the closest thing I could compare it with. BUT they are very quick and a true sleeper. I wanted a 4 door GTR but due to the changes in the import rules, they most likely will not be imported, so the next choice was the 260RS. I will also setup a website dedicated to the 260RS to give Engrish people true info on these awsome cars. P.S the 260RS is only available in manual. Mal
