Right, so here's my dyno graphs. Sorry about the quality, I don't have a scanner so had to use my iphone This is the graph from my tune on Friday. Final numbers in case you can't read them were 390rwhp@18psi; 450nm of torque at 5000rpm. Going by that as well as doing some data logging, this turbo is actually quite laggy. Bit disappointed with that. The other thing that interested me is the shape of the curve. This is what my tuner attributed to the NIStune, he thinks it could be a lot smoother with a different ECU. Then here is my graph from my dyno day yesterday: The number doesn't bug me, I'm more interested in the AFR's. It looks quite rich across the whole rev-range to me; starts off at about 12.9@1650rpm, going down to 12.5@3500rpm and then 10.5 just before it comes onto full boost. Surely 11-11.5 would be just as safe and make more power? Any advice any experienced tuners could give would be appreciated, but I apologize again for the shotty graph quality.

I don't have closed loop anyway, no o2 sensor. But yeh, the issue is my car was originally non-turbo and I've put the engine in it, so not all the sensors were installed and things like the traction control have been deleted. Apparently this motor or at least the ecu were originally automatic, so that's causing some issues. Small things like that. Side note, car only made 318rwhp on the roller dyno. Mates car was also down 100hp from when it was tuned 2 weeks ago. Pinch of salt
-
It feels like 400rwhp Nah it feels good. It doesn't actually throw me back in my seat as much as the ATR43G2 did, but it's definitely faster. Not as laggy as I thought it would be either, though I couldn't tell you exactly what time I hit full boost as I haven't had the game to take my eyes off the road yet Yeh that's what I meant when I said I have to look more into it, I'll speak with Matt about it. And yeh, I'd be a bit disappointed if it turns out I do have to change ECU; Matt's support is fantastic and there's so much info and help on the forums.

I'll be there mate To be honest I was going to be happy with 380+. I know there's still a few things with my setup that could be better like the 3" intake should be 4" etc. But I'm happy for now. Stao, I'd definitely appreciate it if you could refund me for the screamer but I didn't expect it. As for the ecu, that's another thing I'll have to think about. I've always been a believer of picking an ecu to suit the tuner, so I'll be speaking with him about that.

It's not a fault of NIStune itself as I understood it, it's a fault of the factory ecu. The factory ecu is unhappy because of all the changes I've done, it keeps popping codes. Basically Sean had to tune the car in the knock maps because it wouldn't stay in the primary maps. He would reset it, try to run it and it would just jump to the knock maps straight away and give all the codes again. So yes, there is no limit on NIStune. But the ecu itself is not happy. And no, the first couple of runs it just wouldn't make the power, it would peak at a very laggy 320rwhp. When we changed the screamer it was all good.
-
Is it possible to do it from an iPhone? Otherwise I'll upload tomorrow when I'm on a computer haha. I don't think he would have had an issue with the afm or the injectors, it was tuned with them before. The only change was the turbo and wastegate, so isn't it just a case of rescaling and then adjust fuel/timing? Or am I mistaken? There is a reason I didn't tune myself
-
Haha, don't get too excited James, I have to look more into it. Still beats Power FC in any case Sean said at this stage it is the NIStune holding me back as it's just popping error codes all over the place from my having deleted traction control and the engine transplant and a few other things. Seems to think the shape of the power curve and slight lack of power is due to the NIStune not being happy, apparently it was quite difficult to tune. It will make more sense when I post the dyno sheet.
-
I'll post the sheet when I get on a computer. Yeh it was creeping up to 30psi and was maxing at about 320rwhp. Its not the size of the screamer Stao, it's the sharp 90 degree bend. Thats the difference between my tuners and yours; my tuners is a gradual curve so there's no restriction to the flow. And yes, tune is finished. I've apparently found the limits of NIStune, it's not happy.
-
Just a quick post because I'm on my phone; car made 390rwhp@18psi. Biggest restriction was actually your screamer pipe Stao, may want to rethink that design as it caused a few issues. Luckily my tuner had a spare one lying around that fit.

Allstar FTW But seriously, you should probably head over to the Forced Induction section and have a read through the guide. It's not good heading into these things without having some idea of what you want.
-
Exactly. It will be a restriction for now, I accept I won't make full power with this setup. But changing to a 4" intake without a MAP based ecu is a lot of work and money. It's something that will be done down the line but I can't afford right now.
-
Yehhh, see my intake was $400 and now I need to change it again. So that was probably a poor choice. And $400 is about right. I'm not talking about a poxy piece of crap 90 degree steel bend from supercheap. This is top quality stuff, shattered 3 cutting discs trying to trim it. And it's not quite 90 degree, it was full custom so has bends in all the right places so it fits perfectly and sat where I wanted it to sit.
-
Lol, see here I was thinking he just wanted to convert to external gate... How could your car be working if it didn't have wastegates!?
-
Yep. It goes to 80 down from 110, he was late for work so didn't slow down. Must have been going a little bit over 110 as well. The fine cost him his PFC Nah, silver R31. I'm sure there's many cars that go flying through there though

Water Temp Gauge And Air Fuel Readings
Hanaldo replied to kay33's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Gauge or sensor is farked. -
What boost are you planning to run? 60mm is quite low boost, I'd say the 45mm will suit better.

Sounds like it's working perfectly then. -
They are definitely armed all the time. Mate got caught going 35km over the limit through the one on Kalamunda Rd, it was green at the time.

My Bnr34 Vspec Uk-Model In Germany
Hanaldo replied to Skyliensusky's topic in Members Cars, Project Overhauls & Restorations
Congrats on the win mate Where abouts in Germany are you from?? I'm guessing Frankfurt or Koln area if you're able to get out to the 'Ring so much? I'm originally from Kiefersfelden, so haven't managed to get across to the 'Ring on my visits yet, it's penciled in for next year though! Love the car by the way. The only Jap imports I've seen over there were a M35 Stagea and a 33 GTR, I must be too far out of the way How do you go with the salt on the roads, does it cause many problems or do you not drive the R in winter?? -
Power Fc "function Select" Question
Hanaldo replied to 1000AWHP's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I'd say if anyone here will know, it will be Paul... -
Agree with pretty much everything you said. You should literally double your budget when you approach things like this. Don't crunch numbers by adding up how much things are going to cost and then expect that it will cost exactly that much. It doesn't. And it is IMPOSSIBLE to predict the things that go wrong. You think you have planned so carefully and taken everything into account and then bam. Electrical gremlins, forgotten perishables, tuning issues, mechanical failures, etc. It's endless. It's a bit different for us over here in WA, as there are no P-Plate restrictions so non-turbo Skyline's aren't worth chips. And my car being a 34, when I calculated my costs it appeared to be cheaper to do the conversion than it would be to sell it and buy a factory 34 in similar condition. Of course I didn't take into account the aforementioned costs. I did have all the experienced people telling me not to do it and what to expect, but I went ahead and did it anyway. I can't exactly say I regret it, but I certainly wouldn't do it the same way if I had the chance.

Yeh it is. At first I thought it was my dump pipe leaking as I couldn't get one of the turbo bolts in tightly (THAT bolt with the JJR bellmouth). But then when I installed my new turbo I replaced all the bolts with high tensile Allen key bolts, so I got them all done up nicely. Took it for a drive and noticed the whining was still there, so I stuck my ear next to the gauge and it's definitely coming from that.
