  1. Sit in a car with -5's. Unless you're going extreme with displacement, cams, etc etc, you wouldn't want much larger than -5 unless you're really really serious. -5's generally come on after 4k revs on most setups. You'll make well a ton of power with the setup Nismoid said. And have something that's at least a bit streetable.
  2. Awesome bump power! 34 GT-T is what I'd get. Newer, less costs in the mid term. 25DET still a good engine.
  3. No, the way they were designed was basically a standard RWD gearbox, and attaching AWD extras to it. Dunno bout the R33 and R34's (preload etc) - But yes you can run an R32 GTR in RWD all the time.
  4. I thought the same thing. Until about 6 months later. Put the stockers back on and felt the insane difference between gears, and coming slowly off boost.
  5. Agreed on the console point, especially if you only play games on it. From memory, people were using stacks of Xbox 1's back in the day as servers. Cheap, stackable, and flexible once you had Windows on them. And a note on phone operating systems. If they made them open source, we'd have some awesome operating systems for phones out there, no bugs, very flexible. Unfortunately for Nokia, etc, it's too flexible, and won't make them $$$.
  6. Turn the lights on, then turn them off. Your taillights will still be lit up right? Then disconnect the battery and reconnect it, are they still on after reconnection? Do the dash lights or parker lights stay on as well? If so, probably your headlight switch. If not, out of my league because I don't know the circuit's on the R33's. But on R32's the taillights share the same switched circuit as the parkers and dash lights. My issue was none of them would come on at all, was headlight switch. Yours might be jammed on.
  7. Stop. Turn the sub around and face it backwards. Go. Breaking in sub's is a past time for general subs. While it could spark an argument on a moot point, it's not what's causing you your shit bass in this instance. Often it's phasing mate, sometimes turning the sub around, move it left/right/back/forward is all you need. Serious, top end systems, have adjustable phasing on every speaker to ensure you get hit with the right frequencies at the right time. You can always test voltage at the amps terminals, but if you're using more than a 12 gauge cable with that setup, again it's not the cause of the shit bass. Cross the sub over at around 70-80Hz, because of the shallow Q on the crossover, you'll still hear 160Hz coming out at 80Hz setting. Now if your headunit has a high pass filter (take all bass out of the speakers) then use it. If it doesn't, my trick is to turn the amp right up (dont use bass enhancers, just turn the gain to max) - Then at the headunit, turn your sub to max, then start lowering your "Bass" in the headunit. This will kill all bass in the speakers (which if they arent phased with the sub, can cencel most of the bass from the sub) and just give you bass from the sub.
  8. I didn't buy Black Ops. But you're also referring to the franchise as a whole. I was referring to the PC component of the franchise. Take MW2's IWNet for a perfect example. The negative feedback in the PC community was huge. Some 250,000 people who actually bothered to sign the petition. Many more who didn't bother, but were still annoyed by the bad coding that plagues that game to this very day. From what I read, the new version has dedicated servers now? If this is the case, it's a far cry from what they were planning to do earlier (use IWNet in Black Ops). But eitherway it went, it's considered very unpopular. I remember playing BF1942 for years, then BF2, etc. They built their playerbase from making good, long lasting, moddable games. Same with cod. That franchise started with the PC community, and it's modability was what made it so popular to play. It was nonetheless the same with any Quake, UT, and even BF release. Any game that didn't support good modding (SWAT, Theif, etc) wasn't going to (and didn't) last as long, and definitely weren't going to bring a bigger crowd next time without some type of paid media hype. Nobody playing the console versions is hardly going to tell the differences, unless they're an avid PC gamer and knew how green the grass used to be with gaming. And if it was so bad for developers back then, it's amazing they managed to get so big now...
  9. I'll check them out. What's the main differences between H and I rods? (Besides the fact that one's a H and one's an I) Edit: From what it says on Nitto site, I beams are better. But still, I don't think I'd need to go that far..
  10. It's interesting how the process works. Eg: MS Blaster was identified around 9 months before the initial infestation. MS knew it, the people who found the holes and told MS, knew they knew it. In the end, it was the lack of Microsoft's care of the issue that had the worm coded. Memory serves me that even in the worm there was a hidden message to Bill Gates saying something along the lines of "Stop releasing new software until you fix the bugs in your current software." That message was never programmed in a way to show up on people's screens, but to be found by the person reverse engineering the worm.
  11. I read the Skyline manual and I swear near the start it says "No not modify this vehicle in any way." It's a grey area of argument. Apple recently lost it's battle in the U.S. to Jailbreaking. Whether there is more to the saga in the future, time will tell, however: Quote: Jonathan Handel, an attorney for TroyGould in Los Angeles specializing in entertainment and technology, said the decision could open Apple to lawsuits against its practice of preventing the use of certain software on its devices. “When someone buys a kitchen blender, they don’t expect it to refuse to make a margarita,” Handel said in an interview. “And when they buy an iPhone, they don’t expect it to not run reasonable software.” I believe the same with the Playstation. We've seen it can run different OS's - Even before being able to install different OS's officially, you could still do it. The hardware walling of the 3D RSX chip is the main reason any 'Other OS' hasn't picked up mainstream support for the PS3. Sure you can run a different OS, but since you can only do basic things with the OS (even, back in the day, it could hardly play video clip within linux) nobody will bother with the technology. Giving the end user flexibility can give the product many many years of service, and during that time earn the company money in repairs/parts/royalties/online subscriptions/etc. Look at the GTR's - so mod happy, but back int he day the mod's weren't simply on the shelf. It took a degree of mainstream acceptance to form the demand, which made the parts in bulk, which started a huge cult. At the end of the day, this keeps these cars in service, and Nissan are gaining big $$ when us suckers have to buy parts off them. Multiplayer gaming is another example, look at the longevity of games you couldn't mod easily, specifically MW2. Great gameplay ruined by a limited engine, now only the diehards play it. Sure, you may think, "They'll get more money from the next game since everyone is already bored with MW2" - That's true, but it's 2011, people are smartening up, and after 2-3 games of this caliber coming out, they wouldn't have a mainstream game anymore, nobody would buy it, the franchise is dead. There is a harsh balance of economics in play that can often determine if a product's flexibility (and lifespan) is limited. By installing other operating systems, and allowing full access to the RSX chip, Sony could pave way for pirates. But at the other end of the spectrum they'd be lining up their next product in such a way everyone would want it because of it's flexibility. Perhaps at this stage they would even consider moving from their 'software sales' model back to 'hardware sales' - Which is what Originally got Sony where they are anyways. /rant
  12. Definitely. I'd be inclined to ask them to keep everything set as it was, but only tune the extra bit needed for the turbo at the same amount of pressure and get comparative readings. But that's me.
  13. Bumping for 2 reasons. 1: It's been a few years now since this thread, and keeping in mind the content of the thread re: explosions etc, has anyone had exploding patrol clutch yet? 2: What model Patrol does this clutch belong to? What year range? I don't want to turn this into another 5 pages which lack info, so anyone who's 100%, fill me in.
  14. Well one of my -5's leaked oil through the exhaust seals during it's installation, I could see it coming out of the dump pipe before I attached my front pipe up. Called GCG and they said it's normal and it'd seal up over time. I'm very vague on the actual numbers but when you go over a certain amount of oil pressure (30something psi?) you need restrictors. They wouldn't help you in your case if your drains aren't big enough, but I do remember also reading about oil consumptions and one of the first things they say is check the drains for fast and proper drainage. I'd assume blocking PCV system would give you the same effect. Too much oil/crank pressure.
  15. I was gonna go Futuba but everytime I sit down and read about controller <vs> controller, they all seem to have serious turn offs. Like the Futuba RX's apparently overheat and kill themselves... That sounds fkn handy lol.
  16. Ok then. In the realm of rods, what's a good 'bang for buck' rod? Seems I'll be sitting somewhere in the $1000-1500 mark. Special place that does them? I might even look into these CRD bottom ends. They do block exchanges for somewhere about the $5k mark, blueprinted, forged parts etc. I just dont know if that includes rods. (I'm not experienced in the field of RB rods and pistons, but I assume I'll be well versed by the time I make my choice.)
  17. May as well answer my own thread for anyone's future reference. I was sold the wrong type, it was months ago, only found out now, won't take money back, etc etc. I know technically they can do that, but morally speaking, the items are still brand new, I didn't even open their packets. But oh well, here's a pic of the type you want. Watch out for several sellers on Ebay which are selling the wrong types. I think I have the GTS-t ones, but since they're not GTR, I don't care anymore. They also share the same part number with 300ZX rod ends. 1990-1996. Once I get these in, I can finally get my full alignment done.
  18. Sup, what's 'general' limit of conrods? It is based on power? boost? RPM? What's the ideal time you'd be looking at upgrading conrods in an RB26? I'm doing pistons soon, and after some searching, I haven't come to a consensus about whether I need to upgrade rods too. What will upgraded rods give me? Expecting about 370-380awkw.
  19. So you did the oil change 'today', forked it all up, got scared, then waited to 5:00AM to make an account. Right. -- And you said "they started the car" <-- Who is "they?"
  20. That's what I got. Are these the correct type?
  21. When you say knock, does it like like creaking metal? I get this and the body is good, in the middle of replacing bushings all round atm, hopefully I find what it is along the way.
  22. Sup, I got some Ebay tie rod ends few months ago, tried to fit them yesterday and as soon as I saw the one's on the car I realised they're not the same. Mine are smaller, it'd fit the thread but they are too short. So after a ton of looking around, I see discussions of people using 300ZX rod ends, as in, people are going to try, but don't come back to confirm it worked or not. Every thread is the same. In pictures of the 300ZX ones, they do look very alike to what's on the GTR. What do you guys do for your tie rod ends that's cost effective? Nissan? Repco? Some dude on the intertentz? Part numbers? Prices? Front tie rod ends, btw.
  23. Sup, With 'View New Content', is there a way to filter it so it shows only the thread's you've posted in? Or is there any automated way to know if you're posts have been replied to directly? Subscribing/unsubscribing seems baulky and unmanageable if you were to be a frequent poster.
  24. It's one of them games I play for a few weeks, get bored, and end up reinstalling like, once a year. Something about it that brings you back. And I agree, its largely complex when you get into the micro management.
