10 Second Gtst Rb25
Tony de Wonderful replied to Tony de Wonderful's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Is it better to launch in 2nd gear then do you think? I know the Impreza can give better 0-100km times if launched in 2nd. Can you not run positive camber to help an IRS car? -
For about 1/10th of the weight of a water intercooler you could have a NOS intercooler spray and a 100 shot of NOS bottle. The reason they are good for drag is peeps put ice and dry ice in the water intercooler, not really practical on street or track.

The OP can do with his money as he wishes but seems like ATM he is doing the right thing by saving some and still having a few toys. They key is moderation IMHO as has been said. Don't get in debt or extend yourself to buy a shiny bauble, but don't live like an ascetic either. One other observation: 'Investment property'. Property is never an investment always a speculation. The people who call it an 'investment' are the people wanting to sell down to the next 'greater fool'. Don't be that fool.

I'm trying to decide what throttle body to run on a Plazmaman plenum. It is my RB25 GTST and aiming for 300 rwkw. I am assuming the stock throttle body will choke the engine a little and would a 72 mm be adequate? I know Q45 bodies are around but I think they need an adapter flange welding on? I don't want to run a 72 mm if it will lose me power.

10 Second Gtst Rb25

If a car COULD do a 10 with drag tyres then I would class it as a '10 second car' even if it was wearing street tyres that day. Unless you are launching your RWD GTST it is going to perform just as well as an amateur wheel drive car in real world street driving, i.e nailing the pedal at street speeds. If a GTR and a GTST both could do a 10.99 then the GTST would have better trap speed and for hooning about on the street will pull harder, i.e doing 3rd gear pulls etc against your mate. -

Seems a bit pessimistic when you consider a stock one has done an 11.4 with a 10lb bottle of laughing gas. -

Well it is not my car per se. I am talking a GTST in an abstract or hypothetical sense. But thanks for asking about my car anyway. Suspension wise I have HKS coilovers, whiteline sway bars, just the main subframe bushings are poly, camber arms. Have a Cusco mech LSD as well. -

I'm talking potential really. Like how a $10,000 piano can sound better than a Bontempi keyboard but only if the person can play it properly. -

Manual. So that is ~350 rwkw then? What is a 350 rwkw car gonna do on street tyres then? I don't just mean $100 a corner china spec but semi-slicks if necessary. -

Yes it's the key for the low 60' time. I know a stock GTST with a 100 shot of NOS and drag radicals did an 11.4 IIRC, which is quite stupendous. -
Diy:diff Shimming For R33 Gtst
Tony de Wonderful replied to Trust33's topic in Tutorials / DIY / FAQ
It's not a proper LSD, just a highly preloaded VLSD, so it basically won't lock up much harder as you accelerate and you are relying upon the preload to do all the locking for you. -
What do you need to make a 10 second pass on street tyres and full weight? Please don't say NOS. I'm talking minimum spec to do a 10.99. Can you do it with 300 kw?

Quite a lot Marc. Same torque at 7k compared to same torque at 10 k is a lot less power. I'm just pointing out the silliness of comparing same hp small and large displacement cars and saying that comparison is some sort of 'natural benchmarking'. -

Combustion ultimately. Odd question. -

That's a spurious argument. Why would I want to compare a 300 kw 2.6L with a 300 kw 6L? I may as well reply with "let's compare a 2.6L with 500 lbs of torque to a 6.0L with 500 lbs of torque", oh yeah and my 2.6L revs to 10 k and your V8 6k. See yah! -
Is the 6boost equal length headers also? To be honest I doubt there is much room for improvement over design for exhaust manifolds from 10 odd years ago, just maybe 6boost are strong and don't crack etc? It's just lengths of pipe at the end of the day, choose your diameter and length (equal or not too) and away you go.

2 stroke?! Strictly speaking it only has one chamber which is the 'housing', the space between the rotor and chamber is dynamic as it rotates so it is arguable where you should actually measure it for 'displacement'. -

I am afraid the GTR's back in the day were much more advanced and competitive cars than something like the Maloo is today (relatively speaking). I don't hate stuff like the Maloo, but they are only good for the drag strip to be honest and that goes for the FPV stuff too. Around a handling track they are shamed by most sports cars. The Maloo did a 1:27 on the top gear test track which is a power circuit and that is only 1 sec faster than a Lotus Elise. Hell V8 barges are so uncompetitive they had to invent their own race formula to put them in. -
Is that the 8cm or 10cm turbine housing mate? I like the downpipe BTW and that is the trust triangle flange? Some peeps think it's ghey but not me. Also I notice your turbo is mounted very close to the front of the engine compared to Greddy copy mainfolds???

Here in the UK we don't have to worry about this defect crap. Anything goes so long as it passes an MOT test. I could have two 10 lbs NOS bottles visible, a massive bell mouth turbo, dump valves, side exit pipe, you name it. I don't even have to run a cat (but I do have an emission test to meet). It's bloody great.

Interesting thread this. I am planning: Rebuilt Trust TD06 20G Top Mount 50 mm wastegate Plazmaman plenum de cat HKS silent hi-power Trust FMIC Unopened motor RB25, stock cams etc I got this turbo because a) it was available with the top mount manifold 2nd hand b) should be fairly responsive even if it is old tech. I am looking at the compressor maps and have in my mind it will be comfortable to hold 18 psi to redline, maybe 20 psi. 25G compressor would for sure make more top end and be more efficient at high rpm on the 2.5 L, but I want response and I would take punchy 250 rwkw, would be happy with that. At 20 psi at redline I make it about 650 cfm which close to the edge of the envelope for efficiency and compressor rpm. I think 300 rwkw would be a ludicrous amount to get out of this set up on 99 RON (what I use) but we will see what it does in a few months.

Replacement Turbo - What To Get?
Tony de Wonderful replied to Bill's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Sorry to semi-hijack the thread, but for me the biggest issue I have with a high flow turbo is the poverty spec journal bearing and resultant lag. I know it is cheap, but I'm thinking it might just be worth getting a decent ball bearing turbo which won't run out of puff at 6k. I mean if you are going to go to the expense of getting to the point (injectors, fuel pump, FMIC, ecu etc), may as well get a good turbo even if you stay low mount and internal gate?
