  1. I guess its all about cost really, i mean if its less than $500 for tao's housing then thats a good improvement, MTQ guy reckoned the r33 standard turbine housing was about .7A/R so he must be a bit out with his estimation, anyway, i think the 0.82 might be the go, i have nothing but response on my turbo, feels like im driving a vl turbo, comes on boost 2000rpm so i wouldnt mind if that changes a bit, and have more at the top end. 250/260kw on a street car is not bad at all, until i can afford a gt3076 i think ill try the housing swaps.. thanks for the replies
  2. just wondering, i have a highflow r33 turbo, uses a 2871r core 56trim, would i be best getting an OP6 housing or is there another housing HKS or Garrett???? i just want to try and get more top end if its within reasonable cost wise, the turbine is the 53.8 i think whats the best housing to slap on??? would like to get upto 260-280rwkw??
  3. hmm, dunno bout that video, sounded bit like the fans were dominating the sound in the first few gears, but sounded good once it past the camera, how many kw's is that making???
  4. check out my exhaust note, dont think it is any particular brand, 3inch from turbo, 3 1/2 inch from cat http://youtu.be/BFPH51Nsqb8
  5. yeah it was a good point, i agree with that you both and also they use lucus on the drag cars too, bit of insurance . apologies for getting this convo off topic of the soot issues etc...
  6. hey thats sounds good value, how much should it cost to fabricate a new pipe to go between turbo and air flow meter?? does that have performance gain or just sound better?
  7. i see your point, and people can do whatever they like, but ive done the drive off straight away like your talking about, when i do that the engine feels very tight like its full of friction, and the gearbox will crunch second gear too, I have a tuned power fc which shows coolant temp of 50degrees or more by 5mins, the gearbox also changes sweetly so it must be warming up some what too as for fuel washing cylinders, i use a good dose of lucus upper cylinder lube in my fuel, and im not sure if 5mins stone cold on 2000-2500 would be better than 5mins to warm up first, but its all speculation unless you can prove stuff scientifically.. until then ill stick with my padantic method, lol...
  8. hey just out of curiousity, is a standard blow off valve still ok if you upgrade your turbo or run high boost, will it start blowing off or break?? or does it just blow off when you lift off the throttle??
  9. The soot would be from a rich mixture wouldnt it?? like from the previous days drive, where you might have squirted it and the car ran rich a few times then in the morning the condensation is washing the soot out , dripping onto the asphalt.. correct me if im wrong.. i give it 5mins idle, and baby it for another 15mins
  10. Yeah you do get some popping occasionally and some flames too, dont think its sounds bad though. The droning sounds a bit crap if you throttle it on low revs, its like a labouring sound till it hits some higher revs.
  11. ok well one of the best for the price range, bang for dollar is what i meant, So while were talking bout cats, is the "gutted cat" a bad thing performance wise, ive been in a skyline with the cat gutted and it was very noisey thru mid range as in very loud droning sound, is that droning the sound of back pressure, cause ive heard that it creates back pressure and to just use a high flow cat???
  12. cheers Ruxis, glad to hear someone agrees with me, the skyline is the king, and the ford and holdens should be hosed off and put in there place lol, not promoting illegal street racing here, so dont get wrong idea, but the skyline is the best car on the street, so everyone should respect the rb!! maybe a bov is needed to compete with that v8 noise, so be it..
  13. haha, hey i thought that was funny, and refered to having a loud bov not a standard one from the nissan factory, and was directed at v8's meaning V8's that usually try to hose skylines off, not the general public, all in good fun... i have a stock blow off valve and dont scare people with blow off valves, dont you enjoy a bit of fun with the v8 guys??? no offense just having a light hearted input ok?
  14. ive always thought about getting a bov so i could drive past a V8 sat at the lights and scare the crap outa them, lol, isnt that what there for??? lol I second the HKS exhaust, they sound filfth, quiet idle, no droning, and nasty when the throttle goes down, sweet...sounds like the cars possessed in a good way..well the one i heard anyway.. I guess its down to personal taste, i can remember sitting at the drags with a v8 starting up next to me wishing i had a louder exhaust etc, but then on the street wish it was a bit quieter on an idle, cost too much for those bovs though when you could spend it on some cams or somthing else... just my 2 cents..
  15. lol at \m/ \m/ , its that tits or a boney rear haha?
  16. Thanks for that info might try a second muffler , (mine is turbo)seems the more power an rb makes, the louder and nastier it sounds, just have to draw the line somwhere with the decibels
  17. Hey this maybe be well off topic here, there was alot to read in all the previous posts, just have a quick question for the experts My exhaust is loud, sounds good, but id prefer less attention from it, ive heard a HKS silent system 3inch,which is quiet and sounds great, mines 3inch (decatted cat), what can i do to make the noise quieter and not loose any power?????? if i replace the cannon with some sort of HKS muffler, would that be quieter and not affect my power etc???
  18. Skyline model = R33 Series 2 GTST Wheel Brand/Model = Rota Grids Wheel diameter = 18" Wheel width = 9.5 front and rear Wheel offset = +30 (Running F&R) Tyre size = 245/45/r18 (Front) ... 245/45/r18 (Rear) Modifications to fit = Rolled front and rear Rears are perfect, front rub slightly on inner mould with 3/4 lock, have lowered coilovers sitting slightly above tyre
  19. ah ok, good point , i was assuming the standard might be alot less and that you could just buy the clutch disc instead of the whole unit, but yeah may as well get the HD then hey.
  20. Yeah i guess your right, says so on the Garrett website, All Garrett turbochargers must pass a heat soak test and the introduction of water-cooling has virtually eliminated the need for a cool down procedure. Garrett is one of the few turbocharger manufactures that subjects their turbos to several OE qualification tests. When you buy a Garrett turbo you can be sure it's a reliable one! Somthing reassuring about giving it a few minutes though
  21. So are you saying 30seconds of driving easy is enough to cool a turbo down before switching it off?? I usually give bout 3 or 4minutes if its been flogged.
  22. being NA would it even need a heavy duty clutch?? what about just the standard turbo clutch? or is it more about the feel of a heavier clutch cause its not gonna put out much power to burn out a stock turbo clutch is it?? so a stock turbo clutch could be dont for even less dough...
  23. what would be wrong with that, if its the car is designed to have a turbo on it, and now it doesnt, cant it handle major advancing ??? how would that be worse than 10psi of turbo pressure thru it?? the motor is basically lacking now isnt it??? i advanced my ignition fully with the turbo and didnt even ping that i could hear, not that im saying to do that with a turbo, just saying without the turbo should be able to tune it alot more agressively..
  24. Hey buddy, id agree with johnno and converge , I have an r33 gtst and i believe ive got the most aggressive offsets and lowering that i can have, i got 18#9.5 front and back with 245/45 all round, with tein coilovers all round, which sit just above the tyres all the arches had to be rolled cost bout $50 an arch and worth it, they stick out being 30 offset and on the front they rub abit with a full lock, but not really on the fenders more on the inside cover if you know what i mean, but quite bearable, so im guessing that would be same on a 34, or if your really conservative and concerned then go no more than 9inch wide on front, i got the tein coilovers second hand and work well but bit harsh on aussie roads for $800 front and back, and wheels and tyres for $2000 new hope that helps some...
  25. hey, Im probably way off, but throwing it out there, my daily an el falcon just died a week back and its apparently a crank sensor, when that happens they become hard to start though, and eventually just die for good, but then again i dunno if that applies to the skyline, just thought id mention it..
