  1. Hey guys, While i had my front wheels off today i meaured the thickness of my rotors and they are approx 26mm thick. I read in another thread that the minimum thickness for R33 (GTS25t) rotors is 28mm. Our n/a skylines will obviously use different rotors to turbo skylines though. Does anyone have any figures on minimum rotor thicknesses for n/a skylines? Alternatively, if anyone has just had their rotors replaced would you mind measuring the thickness? Thanks, Greg EDIT: found this from dba site. for R33 GTS4 (i assume its the same as GTS25) original thickness: 26mm mininum thickness: 24.2mm this means my rotors are as new..sweet
  2. hey denny, i managed to change my drivers side parker without removing anything. i just jammed my hand into the small space you have to work with (hand got a little bit grazed) and fiddled around until i could undo the plug. my hands are fairly big so you should be able to manage it mate Greg
  3. thanks for sharing this with us please send to andrewsue@protea.com.au cheers greg
  4. does anyone know what tyres r33 came with from the factory? I know the size obviously, but wondering what brand/model? cheers greg
  5. Rain is forecast for saturday, will this still go ahead? My mates 18th is on friday night so not sure if i will get up in time! I'll try and make the effort though
  6. good luck dan i hope all goes well...thanks for keeping us updated
  7. hey pred, nice work on your engine it looks fantastic! did u need to replace the rocker cover gasket?? i have bad oxidisation on most metal parts in engine bay, you've inspired me to slowly remove each of them and polish them up cheers greg
  8. undo the filler plug and poke your finger in it. You should be able to touch the oil. Ideally completely drain the oil then refill, don't just top it up. do a search for more details
  9. I was keen to get a turbo but my parents stopped me. I'm happy with my n/a though Sure its a bit slow in a straight line but its still quick enough to rape my mates cars and it handles just as well as its turbo sibling (if not better; less weight). Insurance only marginally better than a turbo, it wasn't a deciding factor. Oh yeah and in Vic the n/a meets the power to weight ratio of 125kw per tonne for p platers, so its good to know you're legal!
  10. is the genuine nissan 7.5w30 engine oil any good? i just changed my oil for this stuff on the weekend...but i have no idea how to tell if its doing the engine good! It's only $29.95 for 5L so if this stuff is alright then I'm going to be using it from now on cheers greg
  11. Ok I checked out Lilydale for carparks and the best spot is the Lilydale International, which is off the Maroondah Hwy (Melways ref: map 38 H3). This carpark is massive! To top it off Shell and BP are just out the front (yes, they sell Optimax and Ultimate respectively). I'm guessing Lilydale is probably the last place where 98 octane fuel is available so i thought this was the perfect spot for a waypoint. The Coles carpark, while good to get supplies, is always fairly busy - so not ideal. Cheers Greg
  12. i think some reflective heat tape is what you need, can order from http://www.designengineering.com/online_retailers.html cheers
  13. I'll cruise down there now and check out the area you mention Danny, but I think it has become a private carpark now, for a factory. If all else fails Coles carpark will do!
  14. I'm interested...looks like a great drive Would it be possible to join the convoy at lilydale?

  17. ok i have 2 yokohama A539 tyres, 205/50/R16. these are great tyres and were rated as the no 1 performance tyre in recent wheels magazine test. Selling because i want bigger rims grip in wet is phenomenal, dry grip is great too. 90% tread, can take pics upon request. Cost $460 for the pair new, sell $360. These tyres are in good condition and have been on my car for about 5000km. Why buy new tyres when you can get these?! All reasonable offers considered Regards Greg
  18. the owner's manual calls for 75w-90 GL4 rated oil. don't get shell helix synthetic oil, it made my gearbox worse. i'm trying VMX80 next time and then moving up to redline if that isn't too my liking.
  19. With the following mods: extractors, exhaust modifications, air filter modifications, stereo, wheels, 3pt immobiliser and alarm, tinted windows I have received the following quotes Rating 6, Just cars: $4700 full comp Rating 5, Just cars: $2500 full comp amazing how much difference one rating makes -- sorry i can't compmare this to turbo insurace though.

  21. thanks for confirming i think i'll wait until i need a new clutch and then do the lot at once...the noise isn't THAT bad, my passengers don't notice it.
  22. Hey guys, I have a whining noise coming from my transmission. When i press the clutch in the noise goes away. From a search, i think i have determined that the cause of the noise is a worn input shaft bearing. Is this an expensive part to replace? Cheers Greg
