Yes, pretty sure they also came out with the Rb25 N/A. That's the R32 Rb25 (not the R33) so top feed injectors and no VVT.

Many, many years ago, I thought the worst ever cars to work on were VW's. We used to call them Hilter's revenge. Strange metric bolts, cramped engine bay, just horrible. Helped pull the head off my son's Aristo last week and I've changed my opinion. The VW was a dream compared to this car. There is simply no room, fullstop. Thought it might be better up on the hoist but no, just the same, only higher. There's no doubt the basic 2JZ is nicely engineered when compared to an Rb, accessable oilpump relief valve, sensible cambelt arrangement, Hall effect CAS, old fashioned no nonsense stuff. Then they got on the drugs. Crazy waterpump, insane hydraulic fan and that massive sequential turbo lump of cast iron is beyond belief. It has so many actuators and valves I have no confidence that it's ever going to all get back together. Next we move onto the other side with the impossible-to-get-at fuel hoses, electrical harness, sensors..., Makes the GTR look ever so simple.

Why Aren't We All Swapping To Superchargers?
jiffo replied to No Crust Racing's topic in General Automotive Discussion
To me the question isn't supercharge V's turbocharge, it's what's wrong with today's motor engineers that they can't sort out a reliable high performance engine driven turbocharger. They've been around in very large HP applications forever, but I've never seen the technology transferred to the auto industry. This VW monstrosity could have been done so much better/easier/simpler with an engine driven turbo. http://www.greencarcongress.com/2005/08/inside_vws_new_.html -
This weighs about 2.8t and is our heaviest vehicle. No measurable deflection so I'm happy.

Looked At My First R33 Today...
jiffo replied to juzz88's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Another rough FMIC install. The metal around the pipework to the R33's SMIC is a thin as alfoil. Only takes one solid bump into a concrete wheel stop with the cross over pipe and your bodywork will get torn by the cooler pipes, just like in those photos. Similarly the 2-holes that would normally have the SMIC bracket. If the car still had the inner plastic guard fitted, you wouldn't even see in there. The fact that the inner guard is gone is more of a worry to me. May have ripped off from a blowout, but worth a close look. I'd suggest taking someone with you who is more switched onto Skylines, to get an accurate assessment. -
Help Me With Rb20det Conversion Wiring
jiffo replied to Nackerz's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Pin 18 is fuel pump relay. Pin 104 is for the low voltage relay to run the pump at reduced speed. You don't want Pin 104. What do you mean it primes backwards????? -
Stuff the landscaping, too impatient.

Yes, using the step ladder until I pick up some more Forgeweld to build a walkway along the side. Have finished the removable wheel stops now and the sliding tool tray so it rolls anywhere down the centre. It's always a compromise. A pit is great, you're at floor level, can use an engine crane etc but usually will cost a heap more than a ramp and you have to plan for steps, drainage and illumination.

"D" for driver. "A" for that other one.............

Helltown's got to take first prize. Even stock Commo's scrape their front bar. And once you've crawled over the summit, your tow ball will dig a nice groove in the bitumen.
-
That's the easy bit done. Now some landscaping and log walls while I'm waiting for the concrete to cure.

How Well Do You Know The R32 Gt-r. Godzilla?
jiffo replied to PR34CH's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Yep the usual inaccuracies with manufacturer's stats. My fueled up 32 scaled in a touch under 1500kg. -

330lb. Must be reading the same "Brooklands Books" road tests. -

0.40 for the 32 GTR 0.35 for the 33 GTR -
Ensure your braided lines comply first. Each State probably has different rules.

Advice Please On The Following R32 Gtr
jiffo replied to Braddock's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Put her up on the hoist to check out that sill. The Sikaflex is not quite as it should be, and the weld (although very neat) hasn't been sanded flush like in other photos. Rear sills are a great rust spot on 32's, so many holes for the skirts. The Skyline entry trim is dead easy to pop out and with a light, you'll see into the sill through the trim mounting holes. -
Rta Nsw Make It Up As They Go Along
jiffo replied to nathanau's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Showing my age again as Stamp Duty had always been a transaction tax based solely on the amount of money changing hands, nothing to do with the actual article. A quick look at Qld’s transfer of rego form now calls it a Vehicle Registration Duty, and it’s calculated on the total payable by the purchaser or market value, whatever is the greater. So there you go, a state tax under a different name. If the GST had gone through as originally proposed, I guess all these state taxes (and there’s thousands of them) would have been wiped. BTW Deano 1, your fuel excise is 38cents per litre, not 4cents, and then 10% GST on the total, all of which is collected by the Feds. and then distributed back to the States. Time for all the State Governments to go in the shit tin where they belong. Wasteland time. -
Rta Nsw Make It Up As They Go Along
jiffo replied to nathanau's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Mate in QLD we get a ticket and wait in line for rego transfers etc, it's not done over the phone. After sitting on the chairs watching daytime soaps for a couple of hours while the que gets ever longer, there's no way I'd take being fobbed off from the officer behind the glass. He would have a superior to deal with just such cases and that's who I'd ask to speak to. Talk to the donkey's head not it's arse. -
Rta Nsw Make It Up As They Go Along
jiffo replied to nathanau's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Been my experience too. If you have a bona fide receipt, there's no argument. I've even been congratulated on a good, cheap purchase. Although your RTA chose some book value, the officer would have the authority to make allowances for vehicle condition etc. Most auction buys would have no rego and perhaps questionable road worthiness, all of which will add to the budget price you snapped up. I would have taken it further. -
A Desperate Cry For Help From Africa

Rob has been bending over backwards to help> If top-notch advice isn't taken, not much use starting another thread. http://www.gtr.co.uk/forum/139490-looking-...ne-rebuild.html -
Mate at 2500 and 100kph, an Rb20 is simply dreadful. Had this scenario in my Rb20/R31. Hopeless economy and not happy until it's pulling 3000 but then you're way too fast. Stick with the 4.3 or if you absolutely must 4.1 Nissan got it right.

When installed the ramps are horizontal. (obviously not sitting like in the photo) I made up a test piece with the angles (like in most ramps) at 90 degrees, also had them sitting down a little to give a bump edge. Then decided at some time I might want to turn the wheels lock to lock, so flush and flat was how they ended up. Got a big range of track widths to accommodate too from a Vitara, Commo, Skyline, Aristo up to a Patrol. The toy tractor goes straight through the middle. Really my first choice was expanded metal but it's so pricey up here and I would have had to buy 2 full sheets as they're only 1200x3000 After cutting and welding in all those bloody angles though..................

Without a check valve and just the 044, the ecu's time out will beat you so you'd have to do a few key on/offs to prime. But as you're using the stock pump as a lift pump and the 044 externally, you won't need the check valve.
-
Built some ramps today. Sick of crawling around on my back and can't afford a hoist so............ 4 metres long, 2 metres wide, 900 gap, 1600 high. Tomorrow I'll excavate into a bank at the shed so I can drive straight out of the shed onto the ramps. Some concrete and she'll be sweet.

Probably wasting my breath, but have you downloaded the workshop manual so at least you know what's going on inside the box? Worn bearings aren't just noisy, they don't do their job properly, in this case locating the input shaft. Once the input shaft starts to walk in/out, you'll either jump out of 4th or the drive gear will chew into the layshaft driven gear/sub gear. If the input shaft gear is worn, so is the layshaft front bearing. From then on even with a set of new bearings, you'll always have a noisy box as the drive gears will have a wear pattern.
