  1. I tried the second plug (with skinny and fat) and this antenna seems to work much better then the two from the other connector.. Although the smaller cable hooking up to 12 volts made no difference at all.. I tried with and without the small cable (fresh channel search each time) and came up with the same channels.. I get abc (1,2 and 3) and channel 10.. and 10 HD Also it made no difference having the other antenna plugged in or not.. Im getting the best result with the single antenna and not 12 volt to the little cable.. Ill probably start looking at antenna options now..
  2. The video's + music part is up and running and very good. Tonights job is to clean up the mess of cables and mount the thing.. Id be interested to see how others have mounted them in the V's.. Ill post some pics of the antenna plugs tonight.. When you say v35 factory ones dont pick up here.. Is that due to being crap or different system all together? I was fairly certain id get some kind of picture with the factory ones since the reception in my area is really good. I could run my house TV's off rabbit ears (with DTV) no problem at all.. This is what makes me think i have hooked it up wrong.. I want to give the factory ones a chance before i order after market ones.. Even thought ill probably end up going down that path..
  3. Well its in.. I have a couple of questions.. Factory antenna... there is two grey plugs going into the factory tuner. Are both of these for the antennas or just one? Reason i ask, they are slightly different. One of them has two fat cables coming out and the other has one fat one skinny. I just want to confirm this before i butcher the second one.. I only used one of the plugs (the one with the 2 fat cables) and made the ends into antenna plugs that fit the asuka. This must be wrong because im getting pretty much no reception.. Can anyone give me any pointers on how to hook up the factory antennas to the asuka.. (v35 style, stag is different i think) thanks
  4. Thanks to Leon ill be installing my HR3 tonight! Ill post some pics up once its all up and running.. thanks all..
  5. Its a common problem on coupe's with big heavy doors.. After a while the black thing near the hinge wears out under the weight of the door.. To fix it, im pretty sure the door needs to come off to replace the part.. Not a small job for a little result..
  6. might answer my own question.. ok they dont all come with brembo, should be easy to find non-brembo pads then..
  7. Yeah for sure, Ill be doing all my own servicing. First one due in 2000km. Any info is appreciated.. I hate the thought of an apprentice from auto bahn raping my car.. PS. anyone know the part number for non-brembo..? dont all 350z have brembo? sorry for hijack..
  8. Thanks for all the tips guys, im spewing i missed that last event i kewdale... I just checked the thread! It was only 2 weeks ago!! Ill have to make an effort to check into the WA threads from now on and ill be keen to get out there for the next one.. The oily roads probably had a lot to do with it cause the last few times it rained, it was just an odd day or two with weeks of dryness either end so plenty of time to build up oil.. fcruz3r: I have an auto.. 3/4 throttle from stand still in the wet and id be skidding for ages.. even half throttle would skid... and Im talking low revs... even between 2000 or 3000rpm... crazy but awesome fun At the moment this is a novelty for me since its start of summer and havnt had my car in the rain much.. But im thinking during winter after the 3rd week of constant rain, it might start to get a bit old when your just trying to get from a to b.. ... I'll have to get new wheels and tyres sorted before next rainy season starts i guess..
  9. Thanks for the replies.. dont get me wrong VDC definately does its job. I just wish it was a bit more refined. I heard the V36 VDC feels a lot smoother then the V35.. Actually it was a comparison between 350z and 370z but i assume its the same as v35 vs v36.. Ive been thinking.. I know why this car feels different to anything else ive driven in the wet. In the past, the only other 2 rear wheel drive cars ive had is an s14 and an s15.. But they didnt have the low end torque that you get from a V6 so they were much less of a hand full in the wet.. With those cars as long as the turbo doesnt kick in you generally still have traction. I checked my tyres. They are Bridgestone Potenza's.. I dont think they're winter compound but i might check the pressures in them, could be too high.. Eventually i want to upgrade to wider wheels.. Hopefully that improves traction.. Alexander, I dont plan on doing any drifting on public roads but if something should go wrong it would be nice to have confidence in my ability to correct the problem (should VDC be off). I rarely floor my car in the dry let alone the wet... Either way im still keen on going to one of these events.. heres a link to the RAC (used to be AHG) driving centre: http://www.dtec.com.au/mc-motorsport/performance-driving.htm I havent had a chance to read up on it yet but ill check prices soon and post up. If theres enough interest ill do a separate thread.. Ive been there once years ago (civic days) and its pretty cool... Im hoping they have the ability to wet the skid pan for this particular excercise
  10. I havent had my v35 very long but long enough to have had a couple of rainy days.. The first time i drove it in the wet, it scared the shit out of me! (in a good way, i love that sideways feeling - just not confident yet because ive owned mostly front wheel drive cars). Is it just me or does the back end go out really easy on these things in the wet? VDC off, the slightest bit of acceleration in a corner and im already drifting.. At 60km/h, try to get to 80km/h (straight line) if you press the accelorator just enough to shift back a gear (i have 5AT), already its starting to spin.. I love it but, im kind of worried about loosing it at the same time.. The main reason for this thread is firstly, is it normal for it to slip so easily? and secondly, I hate the feeling the VDC correcting the slide, and since it slips so easily, it activates so frequently and feels like crap each time, that it makes you drive like a granny to avoid it activating anyway so it defetes its purpose of having it. So the options are: VDC on, try to drive semi/normal but keep getting that discusting feeling everytime VDC activates VDC on, drive like a grandma to stop it activating VDC off, drive like a grandma in order to not die VDC off, die or VDC off, drive with confidence and enjoy it because you've had practice/lessons at controlling the drift. before i go any further my car is completley stock.. I think it may have the original factory tyres with about 40% tread.. (arnt they meant to be changed at compliance?).. Also its in mint condition and drives like a champion in all other conditions.. Id love to organise (for the Perth mob) a day at AHG driving centre or something similar to get used to controlling my car in the wet mainly but also in the dry. I think its better then trying to practice this on the road.. Have you guys ever done this or would you be interested? cheers
  11. Hi Leon, took some pics today.. I have good news and bad news.. The connector is the same, but the colours are different. Heres what i found: 1: black 2: light green black 3: red black 4: dark green 5: brown 6: brown yellow see pics, Hope this helps.. I dont have a multimetre thing so i cant test the voltages unfortunately.
  12. Not a fan of the rim in the original either.. But i love these! what are they?
  13. Yeah i spent ages sifting through ebay crap.. Most of them only had one antenna input and a crappy roof mounted antenna. I think the receptions actually pretty good in my area so fingers crossed with a HR3 or similar ill be watching koshi and (idiot) mel on the way to work soon.. --- sorry for the mel fans (if there is any)
  14. Leon thanks for your reply, Id like to take you up on this offer.. How much you chasing for the HR3? (PM me) Im not too keen on buying in bulk at the moment because im fairly new to the scene.. But the ones your looking at sound like they might be decent. Let me know how you go with the test unit and if you need help making up the numbers, i might still grab a few. cheers
  15. thanks mate yeah i know.. dry joints on one of the board or something.. I just said CD player because its in the head unit itself right? Im not in the mood for hacking into my dash board to get it out and send it off... Shame such a good unit is let down by this little problem, but then again, it would be heaps better controlling your Mp3's via the factory screen.. Im looking forward to that but just need to find a decent tv tuner that has this function.. Last night i made up a cable to the factory tuner so no i can use my phone for mp3's through aux.. This is just a temporary solution though..
  16. Hi guys, since Asuka tuners are no longer available, im trying to track down a worthy contender. Seems to be nothing out there that compares.. They are either crap quality or dont have the usb mp3/mp4 function... My CD player left speaker problem is getting worse so need to do something.. Has anyone tried ebay crap like this?? http://cgi.ebay.com.au/770-New-Car-DVB-T-T...=item3caecf88b4 cheers
  17. this is your best option. If they do it properly, it shouldnt chip easier.. They will need to use a fine sand paper to take the gloss off the whole bumper. Then patch the damaged parts with a tiny bit of bog or putty if necessary. Sand over the bog. Prime over the bog. Sand over the prime and then repaint the whole thing. It shouldnt chip off easier if you pay $600 for it... Id be pissed if it did for that much.. Put it this way materials cost about $100 if that.. and its about 1 day labour.
  18. Where is this filter? I picked up my 03 two weeks ago with 27,000km..
  19. Im trying to get the dealer (where i got the car) to get the HID's back from the compliance people.. If i cant get them back, ill be interested in these..
  20. Shortly after i got my car i noticed the middle LED was not working. A few days after that it stopped working all together so just unplugged it. I think it actually looks cool without the middle light personally. Hope the cops dont mind though..
  21. Thanks mate cant wait for the next one!
  22. scrap that, got a better feel for the car now.. No LSD
  23. Hi guys, I was having the window issue (passenger side) a few days ago and ended up cleaning out and reseting the motor. It worked for 2 days and then today coming home i put the windows down. a few min later I felt a bit hot and noticed it went back up on its own!! Tried putting it down again and no deal. Also the auto up/down when open/close the door isnt working again. Annoying!!.. specially when you put a couple of hours worth of work into it a few days ago... Anyway.. just wanted to confirm your thoughts, definately motor that needs replacing? or actuator? Where exactly is the actuator? Throughout all these DIY's i saw a lot of motor accessing/cleaning stuff but no actuator.. Forgive me if im blind.. thanks
