  1. Problem is, the performance of a 34 GTR is above a 335/M3/Vette (puke!). Thats why I say a 996 Porsche turbo really is the only "step up" as such, all the other suggestions are a step sideways at best. I'd suggest keeping the 34 and spending a little, showing some love. You're not going to tear up great gobs of money by keeping it, as opposed to the other cars mentioned. Think of it this way, if you could buy a brand new 34 GTR or a 335i right now, what would you buy? So yeah, I'd "restore" the 34, not meaning make it a 10 second beast, just restore, do all the little bits and pieces you know it needs to make it "perfect".
  2. Thought of this quite a bit myself. I honestly don't think anything compares unitl you're prepared to spend enough and/or wait until 996 Turbos are within your range.
  3. Gee, I've never caught them on ONE, must keep a closer eye out! I wonder how Whitey's tarmac rally SuperAlphabet would go against these?
  4. I meant the 5 speed is a benefit not so much because it is (marginally) stronger, but when coupled to the matching R32/33 diff gears they're better imo for this type of motorsport. Anyway, I couldn't give a shit and am ready and waiting to move on Roy is talking about anal now, has no one noticed? Savman, yup, Mt Stuart for the 32. I better get to prepping the poor old girl. Straight after Superlap.
  5. I remember the same re someone asking around for a GTS4 diff Glass houses comes to mind So anyway, whats next? High Country looks the goods! We're doing Mt Stuart next month as a nice little filler
  6. Gosh, some bad info here. Step aside kiddies You CAN run different widths front and rear on a GTR. You NEED to make sure the rolling diametre of your chosen tyres are very close, not exact, but very close. Say, within 15mm rolling diametre front to rear. (Think about it, that is LESS than the difference bewtween a fully treaded new tyre on the front and a worn rear isn't it Save this to your favourites!; http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html Now, for shits and giggles, do the excercise, compare a 245/35/18 (for front) with a 285/30/18 (for rear). Now, please go and tell all ya mates
  7. Trajic news, I'd like to offer my sincere condolences to Tom, Gerard & the guys families.
  8. Now now boys..... saying the 5 speed isn't a benefit but rather a cost saving is utter bullshit. To win Targa first you have to finish it, so yes, reliability is very important (it is NOT however just a reliabilty trial, that is an insult). Therefore, running the stonger, yet ILLEGAL, 5 speed box is definately a benefit. Just because the R34's LEGAL gearbox is a six speed, does NOT make it instantly better. In fact, it's simply not, not for this type of racing. The R34 GTR is hopelessly tall geared, 6th never seeing use because the car won't pull it, and the diff gears are tall meaning less punch out of corners. So cut the "it's not a performance enhancing mod so should be allowed" crap. That argument is baseless and I'll say it again, CRAP. So, that's TWO plusses for the 5 speed box. The third (although how this matters when the event costs$20k to do) is cost. I run an RB20 gearbox in my car, because that's what is legal. Everyone else running my model of car runs the RB25 gearbox, which is ILLEGAL. But, those slow guys don't get on the podium, therefore finishing the event is more important to them than legality, because the legality side of it will never worry them. I have to be very aware of my weaker RB20 gearbox because as said, to do well you need to finish. And that is one of the other challenges with this event, you need to be aware of your particualr vehicle's weaknesses, and allow for same accordingly. Hey, the WRX guys have been doing it for years. For all you guys saying improvements should be allowed for reliability, I'm sorry, you're simply wrong. Different cars need to have different strengths and weaknesses to keep it interesting. I'm not aiming this at Snowy, he's a good fella, but a little reality check is needed here.
  9. I think so! Dude needs to take a chill pill. I wanna know who's gettin in with me next year......... if Gavin steals my boy that I trained and moulded just how I wanted him, then I'm gonna knock him the fark out!
  10. I reckon just don't stress, have a good time Just having the chance to crease someone famous' quarter panel as they come screaming past would be enough of a thrill for me
  11. Coupla man-whores you two huh....... I think I know who you mean, the hospitality girls? The ones where I was talking to you Sav at the finish line?
  12. Bloody hell where were all these women you two speak of!?!?!
  13. Tend to agree with you the JB, but I'm a newb at this shit. I'd just give it a love tap to get and that pesky Boston OUT!
  14. Does that mean I cannot reply? lol Eric's car was actually very modified in the suspension side of things, much closer to a V8 Supercar than an XB coupe. Don't take everything said on "Love the Beast" as gospel. And FWIW, no amount of suspension tech was keeping him out of the trees, he was going in regardless. Travelling perhaps 30klm/h less would have helped The camera doesn't show just how steep the descent is where he came off.
  15. I have a question.......... but I'll email you.
  16. You need to keep up with Postman Pat voice overs
  17. Jeebus, look at all this love for the Briz...... I say put a hat on the little ginger ku..... ah never mind.
  18. There's some really nice ones in here, I particularly like some of our member's own back yeard sheds
  19. More camera angles on the car would have been good het Russ....... BAAAAAAAhahahahahahahah
  20. If that were allowed there'd be dead people scattered all over the countryside. Too many people attempt to make up for lack of talent by usings overloads of horsepower. Doesn't really gel with mostly non-professional crews and solid gum trees at the roadside.
  21. It depends on how wealthy and/or how good mates the crew is Bris. I've paid half costs as a Nav, because I loved it and treated it as a yearly holiday with a great mate, Tim helped out substantially last year, and treated it much the same. Some Navs get all expenses paid, and thats usually when they're teaming up with someone they don't really know (as I did in 2007), and some get paid (usually the ones that are semi-pro and actually write their own notes as opposed to reading/modifying a purchased set).
  22. Yeah I read thats what he says he's got and that's where he comes from, but can't say I know Kimbod That is why I included question marks when I asked if he's competed or spectated. Maybe it's Mr Moore behind the screen? Buggered if I know.
  23. I just think you were selling it a little short. I'm guessing you haven't been there? Competed or spectated? Whilst it would be much easier to drive around and just "finish", actually competing for a position, as most of us here are keen to do, takes much, much more than just reliability. (Bit different on SAU versus your mates on the Emo forums hey Greg and Snowpuff ) It certailnly is paramount to have a strong reliable car, especially if you want to have a crack. The time put into a recce reflects directly on how well you do. Keeping your mind absolutely "on it" for the duration is absolutely one of the hardest things I've done. I had a little "off" last year that proves what two five seconds lack of concentration can do. The logistics of where and when to obtain fuel and juggle a service crew is also a challenge. Then there's the fact you need a crew that can get on with eachother for two weeks in a car, its harder than you think, and the next navigator that simply gets out on a driver will not be the first. Oh, and finally, you shouldn't crash.
  24. LOL!!!! A realiability trial you say!?!?! Please sir... do go on..............
