will we get an auto response if an email has been received? or are you hanging off replying to emails until decisions have been made? just want to make sure the email came through ok -
do you have a more durable wax or sealant already on the car? that's your first step before a QD

Sau Forum Battle - Come One, Come All!

hahaha, the car maybe quick but it's hardly going to compete with the big boys - i'm sure SAU will have some stonking cars in the motorsport segments (already have big red on board) and we'll need it with the Emo's getting around etc. It would also require either myself to drive (nowhere near quick enough) or someone else, and i don't know how game i am for someone else to drive it in competition. so i see SnS as the only thing i could possibly help SAU with, depending on who's put their hands up of course. This is going to require a big team effort where even the paddock sitters have to help out for the points. maybe next time if i get my driving skills up to scratch! -

q3 relevant to show'n'shine entries? -
oh ok, if your hypergear is meant to be a 3076 equivalent, then yeah, with a fixed intake 300rwkw sounds quite do-able then. My HG turbo was smaller from memory. put it this way, i have ID1000's and a Nismo intank pump on my GTR and we didn't have any fueling issues up to 400rwkw on E85, 21psi. IMO 740cc, a good pump, and you should be fine. But as shown, it does seem to have a lot to do with how your tuner likes to tune so it's probably best to chat to them regarding fueling. On paper, i think it seems fine but it might not be enough for your tuner to be happy, and that's something to consider.
-
?? really? G4 doesn't need any extra hardware, has at least 2 digital input points as far as i know... you talking about a harness of some sort? To the OP: To be honest, i don't know if you'll see 300rwkw if you're 255 on 98 - i was 256 at about 18psi on 98 with my GTT, an OP6 highflow (so prob a little more restrictive than yours) and we got to 280-285 on E85. I had 740cc injectors and a drop-in walbro fuel pump, was plenty of fueling. I don't see why you would think it's a waste if you don't get 300... my GT-T was so much fun to drive on E85, great 25 gearbox, heaps of mid-range and quite responsive being a highflow, brilliant street car. You'll have a very similar setup and even if you get say 285rwkw, IMO it's still a very worthwhile exercise. and besides, with the torque and power you have, you better make sure the suspension and tyres are up to the task and for ECU choice, Link G4 is a great bit of kit... good exchange rate with NZ at the moment, so you might find you can save a bit buying one from there. and if you want to save more money, you could get a second hand GM ethanol sensor from a wreck in the US (or if lucky, find a wrecked flex fuel Holden here), could get one of those for 40-50 bucks in the states at least
-
Eflex has that stupid price cycle just like other fuels, approx 10cent difference depending on day of the week, at the moment, 1.10 to 1.20 sounds about right.
-
i didn't find it was too bad with the GT-T - on the cruise, so freeway driving etc, my consumption only varied by about 10% to 98, and about 25% for urban duties. If you do lots of freeway km's, it's quite a cheap (and powerful) fuel.
-
time for flex-fuel!
-
@roy sif!!! It's ok Brisby, the 32 can handle it... it's time to switch.... come on, i know you want to! EDIT: yep, either made from Sugar-cane or wheat by-product, quite sustainable and won't effect food prices. There should be a project in Vic starting soon where we'll be making ethanol from household waste.

the Evo running Motul 300v left it in after track days, hard street driving etc because the UOA said it was fine. I think he was doing auto-x events. Scotty, maybe that's the issue then... for those people with the set of circumstances that can lead to oil degradation, cold, short trips etc... and of course if you're a company you just say no to everyone because you can't say "oh it's fine except for... this this this" you just tell people it's not suitable, which is correct in certain conditions.
-
man, the more i looked into this, the more it seems as if the E85 urban-myths strike again... i'm starting to think any decent oil will be cool, and i have a feeling i'll be changing oil a lot less once i start doing UOA's. Like not even after track days if all is ok.... i know i'm spamming this thread, but this post people will like. Motul 300V is widely regarded on here, and for good reason. It is also widely denounced for E85 use, even by Motul themselves... not sure what they're worried about?? http://www.socalevo.net/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=37&topic=64878.40 - check pg2 http://www.socalevo.net/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=37&action=dlattach;topic=64878.0;id=17845;image http://www.socalevo.net/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=37&action=dlattach;topic=64878.0;id=17846;image http://www.socalevo.net/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=37&action=dlattach;topic=64878.0;id=19079;image Motul held up fine, although the first two at 10w40 300v and the 3rd is 5w40 for some reason, not listed as 300V. This guy was running Mobil 1 before - wear readings were better with the Motul over the Mobil. No 'thinning' issues at all from the ester 300v. This is on full E85 as well, not eflex levels.

THIS looks interesting, not sure of certification, don't really care... it's AMSoil, specifically mentions alcohol fuels, good weight/viscosity and you can buy in 55 gallon drums http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/rd50.aspx

ok, more interesting info which further backs up what some of us have found and been saying... whilst API-SN/ILSAC GF-5 is good there are still going to be oils that are E-85 friendly regardless of this rating. Like the older RP's, AMSoils etc.. Looking at the Penzoil options and noticed that their Penzoil Ultra is an API SM, SL and SJ, ILSAC GF-4 BUT it ALREADY exceeds the cleaning and protection requirements of GF-5 - now, i don't know if that means it's a GF-5 certified oil but what it does seem to mean is that even non SN/GF-5 oils can be ok with E85 and that's pretty much what some of us have found. It might explain why Motul recommend ones like 6100 etc that don't have "the certification"... As for Penzoil though... Penzoil Ultra (not Euro) Penzoil Platinum Penzoil Gold Penzoil High Mileage the other thing to keep in mind though is that not all viscosities/weights seem to get the same ratings. So we'll need to check that. AMSoil XL and OE lines are API-SN/GF-5 as well

as does the AMSoil Signature Series - unfortunately nothing in the thicker scale of things... apparently the additive package between Mobil 1 and AMSoil is quite different, so you'd prob want to see some real world results between those two particular ones. - AMSoil Signature Series - Mobil 1 (not all, would have to be the newer ones) - RP (i think the HPS and XPR are both API-SN now, will need to check) - Castrol Edge have a API-SN oil, again, might only be a lighter weight 5w30 etc might start a thread over at bitog, for some more info (more independent at least) for the GTR owners, we're probably going to want something more 15w50 so i'll see if i can find a heavier API-SN or GF-5 oil - i'm thinking it might only be like 20w50 options, but we'll see...
-
yeah, i used RP in my GTT on E85, no dramas at all.
-
2-3 years of E85 use on my old GT-T, GTR been on it for about 6 months now. And new owner of last car has been running on E85 for about 18months, so total time of E85 use is going on 4-5 years. No issues. Plenty of myths around but a 1997 GTR will be fine. Just make you sure you have a compatible oil (look for ILAC-GF-5 spec oil or API SN (prev API-SN resource conserving one) and make sure you have enough fuel supply, pump, injetors etc. Ethanol, as long as it's produced sustainably, ie from house hold waste, crop by-product, algae etc is a brilliant fuel in that the current infrastructure doesn't need to be changed a great deal, much lower emissions and renewable. Perfect transition fuel until things like hydrogen etc become more feasible.
-
that would seem to be a yes... now to find a list of G5-F oils... looks like GF-5 might be better than API SN in some regards, as there will be API SN and SN Resource Conserving, SN normal doesn't seem to require emulsion retention... interesting... I think i'm going to try and find a GF-5 oil to try.
-
so we could then use a ILSAC GF-5 rated oil as well i take it if API SN is ethanol compatible...

Iran & Strait Of Hormuz Blockade

case in point... http://edition.cnn.com/2012/01/11/world/asia/iran-scientist-killed/index.html?hpt=hp_t3 looks like the work of rowdy teens.... or Mossad -
evc 6 i set at 21psi i think, 98 or E85, it's all the same we believe the pistons are N1's, so not fully forged (not 100% on this, will have to try and confirm with Midori one day...) so i'm never going to run stratospheric boost and i didn't think running Eflex/E85 will help much in that department anyway. if we were going with variable boost, then that would have to be controlled via the G4 i'm assuming... i don't know if this requires extra hardware/extra Link kit etc... and even if we could, i don't know if i would run extra boost on Eflex/E85... why? i've got all the extra timing over 98, in the 400rwkw for pure E85, ~650nm of torque... don't see the point of stressing the engine anymore to be honest... it's not like it's underpowered
-
isn't there some sort of 3 month warranty regardless with a registered car dealer?
-
i reckon something on the motorkhana scale would be a good thing to try and get off the ground. Small enough that it would be feasible, and then once that is shown to be a sucess, you leverage that to push for a more comprehensive facility closer to urban centres.
-
not that it's the "be-all, end-all" but 6100 is a semi-synth yeah? group III/IV or group III/V mix?
