Guilt-toy Now Running On E85 !
whatsisname replied to Guilt-Toy's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Thanks for the heads-up. I guess it stands to reason that dyno tuning to suit the E85 is going to chew through a fair quantity. -
That's the spirit And much the same way I feel having learnt the hard way too. I think a GT30 compressor combo' coupled with 0.63 external gate rear would be just fine. It will be responsive, will still make solid top end power, and with the external gate will hold boost without any creep issues. I wouldn't expect big 300+ numbers though - the GT3082 would be the choice for that if the latter is your ultimate goal.

If I had a dollar for every time I've heard of someone having to redo part or all of a new turbo set-up, I'd have at least $2 so far... in this thread. You and I, Ryan We tend to start out thinking we can save a few dollars by not upgrading a certain part (i.e external gate in this case) only to end up with an overall result that falls short of our expectations. We then go on to spend more money, trying to get a better result, only to end up forking out for the part that we skipped in the first place. You've got to laugh though, because we all do it at some point or another.

Ahh, so many great potential one-liners in this thread, I'm spoilt for choice! Nothing wrong with some good penetration... boom-tish! And Joel, ignore Pete, I think your Mum doesn't a fine job with a welder Now, back to being serious for a moment. In my humble opinion, when chasing power levels at or above the 300rwkw mark using the RB25DET, it pays to bypass the internal wastegate options and go straight for a correctly sized external gate and piping to suit. In the long run you are more likely to get the result you're after with less hassle, and in some cases you'll actually save money that would have been spent stuffing around trying to fix boost control/creep issues. I learnt the above the hard way. So, would anyone like to buy my internal gate Turbonetics 0.63 T3 Stage 5 housing with enlarged internal gate outlet? It's good for 350rwkw on an RB25DET... and does a reasonable job of controlling boost Ryan, it sounds like your Garrett (I'm assuming Garrett - can't recall exactly) 0.63 has the same response as my 0.63 Turbonetics - they're much the same design, so it's not unusual I guess. Lee, nice result, mate. Got to be happy with that power and response. Upgrade the cams, add some more boost and there's a little bit left in that combo' still to come - up to 280rwkw on the same dyno.

Hopefully the situation is rectified prior to the 20th. I don't need much, half to a tank will do - for starters. -

Hey mate, Ah yes, good ol' whatshername hey? I'm certainly hoping that's the case. Will do. -
Given this is a no chit-chat area I'll be very brief. Good to meet you too, Lee. Yes mate, all parts are in as good or better condition - I prefer not to sell average quality 2nd bits... unless the buyer is happy to and understands the poor condition.

A friend and ex-work colleague of mine owns a Renault Clio Sport Cup 182. It's a great little car, looks quite good in the flesh, and certainly would surprise a few people, with it's capabilities. And anyone who doubts the fun that can be hand in a small little Euro' based hatch needs to take a quick spin in a GT / TSI VW Golf, don't let the 1.4L capacity fool you, the TSI (VW speak for twin charged - yes, it's turbocharged and supercharged) engine is a little ripper. The way the little FWD GT Golf can rocket off the line had me laughing my arse off quite a few times! Peak torque of 240Nm from 1200rpm to 5000+rpm, in a small capacity yet lightweight package, equals plenty of economical fun.

I'm interested. However, my car will be undergoing a few minor upgrades at Boostworx around the 17th-20th of this month, and although it 'may' be ready in time, I won't really know until after the close date - the car could even still be there when the dyno day is on.

Guilt-toy Now Running On E85 !
whatsisname replied to Guilt-Toy's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Excellent thread, Guilt Toy. There is some very good info' in here. It would appear, after reading your results, and info' on other sites, that the E85 'picture' is looking very good indeed. I've elected to upgrade to 780cc injectors, which would appear to be more than capable of supporting mid 300rwkw based on your results. The plan is to do a tune for 98, 110 Martini and E85. I'll be sure to post my results - aiming for sometime later this month (20th?). -
I haven't been on a cruise for a very long time, however, the 15th November is the date for the twilight round of the SA Improved Production Racing Association Championship. I'll be there supporting the Boostworx lads. Maybe next time. It'll give me time to completely finish the currently round of mod's.

I always aim to put a smile on someone's face, even if it's only my own. Fairy suit with wings, yep that should go nicely. We just need a suitable superhero worthy mode of transport - I'm thinking Lada Niva or Niki 650.

Ha-ha, yeah something along those lines mate. Hey, if the disposable income allows it, why the hell not? And there's probably enough disposable income in that beast of a bike to make Jay Leno proud Now, as for the shit stirring. Play nice please people. It's simple really, if you don't have anything positive or constructive to say, it's probably best to keep ones opinions to oneself.

Hey Pete, I cruised past the Meguiars stand quite a few times during Saturday arvo', but not knowing what you looked like (at the time all I had was a basic description) it was always going to be a challenge to find you for a chat. Next time mate. I'm not a bike person, but I can certainly see the effort and attention to detail involved with your machine. Very impressive indeed - serious money and time invested there! Chatted to Martin (HOSTILE) and also caught up with a few old school members that don't frequent the site much these days. Was good to chat with Alex for a while too. Good to hear the beast made ~500rwkw mate. Hopefully you can make it down to the BW dyno day on 22nd Nov. Been keen to see ~600rwkw going all out

Yep, I'll be there from 1230-1300 or thereabouts. I don't recall meeting you before, Pete, but I'll be sure to say G'day to you at the Meguiars stand - I'll just call everyone at the stand, Pete, bound to get it right eventually
-
Ha-ha, yep, I'll be selling them. However, one potential problem. I have a custom top-feed fuel rail, which means my 550's won't suit the OEM RB25DET rail.
-
I'd like to see some maturity displayed from here on in in this thread, therefore the hostility will cease now guys. Simple as that. The kind of comments that I have had to removed have no place on this forum. Continue back on topic... Good idea by the way. I'd be interested in offering my car for photograhic purposes, or at the very least owning the finished product.
-
Good move mate, as it's just not worth taking the risk. Get those bigger squirters in there first, then you can crank up the boost safe in the knowledge the fuel system can support it. We are both at a similar point actually, as I'm just about to upgrade to a new set of 780cc injectors in my 33 - my 550's are no longer up to the task... especially for E85.

Using LOX (liquid oxygen) would 'kind of' work nicely at externally snap cooling the intercooler I can't recall the exact LOX temp off the top of my head (- a few hundred 'c) cryogenic freezing temp's that's for sure. It also has an expansion rate of 600ish to 1, as in 1L of LOX = 600L of gaseous oxygen. So watchout when it reaches a source of ignition! Great for speeding up the BBQ cooking times, it'll cook snags in microseconds, then melt the BBQ and burn a nice hole in the ground under it Anyway, back to the dyno day conversation. Any info' on the domestic entries?

So, he's making a profit by selling DVD footage without written consent. Ah-ha! Right, here's what we do; We, collectively, need to get ourselves an agent! If this guy taking the footage doesn't pay us royalties, then we'll have our agent sue his arse for making a profit from unauthorised reccordings of us

I guess it depends on how 'real' those 400rwkw are, if you get my drift. To safely support a genuine 400rwkw you are going to to be pushing well beyond the safe level for 550cc injectors. I wouldn't risk it. Wait till you get the 1000's in.
